Patriots Notes: FA Tryouts, Worthy, Mallett

The Patriots were busy today trimming their roster down to 53 players. However, the team was still actively scouting the free agent market, and ESPN.com’s Mike Reiss reports that 12 players were actually in for tryouts:

Let’s check out some more notes out of New England…

  • Since Jerel Worthy failed to make the Patriots roster, the team doesn’t owe the Packers a draft pick, explains ESPN.com’s Rob Demovsky. The Patriots acquired Worthy from the Packers earlier this month for a conditional seventh-rounder.
  • The Boston Herald’s Jeff Howe tweets that the Cowboys could be a landing spot for quarterback Ryan Mallett. The writer also suggests that the Texans and Rams could get involved.
  • The Patriots won’t be provided with any additional cap relief since Isaac Sopoaga failed to make the Cardinals roster, tweets Howe.
  • Following the release of Danny Aiken, the Patriots don’t have a long snapper on the roster. As the Boston Globe’s Shalise Manza Young notes (via Twitter), if the team doesn’t carry a long snapper, it would be the first time they’ve gone without one during Bill Belichick‘s tenure.

Ravens’ Roster Now At 75 Following Moves

The Ravens’ roster count now sits at 75 in advance of tomorrow’s 3pm cutdown deadline. Baltimore has waived the following players, per a press release:

Additionally, the Ravens have placed DE Kapron Lewis-Moore, G Will Rackley, and DE Brent Urban on injured reserve, ending their respective seasons.

Minor Moves: Redskins, Ravens

We’ll round up today’s minor transactions right here, including signings and cuts of players who haven’t seen much or any NFL action, and players accepting and signing contract tenders from their respective teams. Here are Tuesday’s minor moves:

  • The Redskins have cut defensive end Brandon Moore, writes Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post. Moore, a former Texas Longhorn, spent most of the 2013 season on the Chargers’ practice squad before signing a futures/reserve deal with the Chiefs for 2014. The 21-year-old was cut by Kansas City and snapped up on waivers by Washington last month, but was recently hit with a four-game suspension for 2014 for violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
  • Safety Omar Brown has signed his exclusive rights free agent tender from the Ravens, the team announced today (via Twitter). Brown, who appeared briefly in just one game for Baltimore in 2013, will be in line for a $570K salary.

Contract Tenders: Dobbs, Lattimore, Bears

The 49ers are expected to extend the restricted free agent tender to defensive lineman Demarcus Dobbs and extend a tender to exclusive rights free agent Michael Wilhoite, tweets Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee. We’ll keep track of the latest contract tenders here..
