We’ll round up today’s minor transactions here, with the latest news appearing at the top:

  • To open a roster spot for tight end Kyle Auffray, the Raiders have cut kicker Kevin Goessling, per Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post (on Twitter).

  • To fill the roster spot vacated by Ott’s departure, the Patriots have re-signed tight end Justin Jones, according to Tom Curran of CSSNE.com (Twitter link). Jones, an undrafted free agent, had been released a week ago.
  • Former Illinois receiver Steve Hull signed on with the Saints as a undrafted free agent just three months ago, but he has decided to end his playing career. Hull posted the news himself on his Instagram account.
  • The Patriots have waived long snapper Tyler Ott, an 2014 undrafted free agent out of Harvard, per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com (via Twitter). Veteran Danny Aiken is now the only LS on New England’s roster.
  • The Bengals have waived OT Chandler Burden, tweets Coley Harvey of ESPN.com.
  • Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun tweets that the Colts have cut running back Davin Meggett and signed running back Deji Karim.
  • The Lions have signed linebacker Shamari Benton and waived linebacker Justin Jackson, reports Wilson (Twitter links).
  • Wilson tweets that the Chiefs have cut Rokevious Watkins from the reserve non-football injury list.

We will post any and all “minor moves” right here over the course of the day:

  • The Colts have signed undrafted rookie tackle Matt Hall, the team announced. Hall originally signed with the Vikings in May, but was cut by the team on Friday.
  • The Redskins have waived 2013 fifth-round draft pick Brandon Jenkins, and activated Mo Hurt after he passed his physical, reports Mike Jones of the Washington Post (via Twitter). Moving on from Jenkins was not a surprise, as John Keim of ESPN.com, Tarik El-Bashir of CSNWashington, and Jones all took to Twitter to comment on the player’s struggles and inability to contribute.
  • The Panthers have signed former Brown Fozzy Whittaker to replace the injured Tyler Gaffney, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (via Twitter). Whitaker can contribute both as a tailback and kick returner.
  • The Bears have waived guard James Dunbar out of TCU, reports Jeff Dickerson of ESPNChicago.com (via Twitter).
  • The Dolphins have signed offensive tackle Steven Baker, reports Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun (via Twitter).

  • The Colts have waived tackle Jack Breckner, tweets Craig Kelley of Colts.com.
  • The Panthers have signed safety Tom Nelson, tweets David Newton of ESPN.com. Newton adds that the club still has a roster spot to replace injured RB Tyler Gaffney.
  • The Patriots have waived wide receiver Greg Orton, tweets Jeff Howe of The Boston Herald. Howe adds that Orton will revert to IR once he clears waivers. Shalize Manza Young of The Boston Glove tweets that the team has signed wideouts Cole Stanford and Brian Tyms and that the 90-man roster is once again full.
  • The Colts have signed running back Davin Meggett, tweets Matt Zenitz of The Baltimore Sun. Meggett, who has spent time on the practice squads of four different NFL clubs since leaving the University of Maryland in 2011, signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League in June but was released by the team earlier this month. Meggett provides backfield depth in the wake of Vick Ballard‘s season-ending injury. Prior to the signing, Stephen Holder of The Indianapolis Star examined the different options the Colts might pursue to replace Ballard, options that still may be on the table after acquiring the unproven Meggett.
  • In a corresponding move, the Colts have place LB Aaron Morgan on IR, tweets Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun.

Redskins Cut Carriker, Rocca, Three Others

The Redskins have released defensive lineman Adam Carriker and punter Sav Rocca, the team announced today (via Twitter). In addition to parting ways with those two veterans, the club has also cut tight end Richard Quinn and running backs Jawan Jamison and Davin Meggett.

Carriker, who signed a four-year deal with the Redskins in March of 2012, has missed the majority of the last two seasons due to knee and quadriceps issues. He had a cap number of about $6.51MM for the coming season, which will be reduced to $3.52MM in dead money, creating $2.99MM in cap savings for Washington. Rocca, the Redskins’ punter for the last three season, would have seen his base salary bumped up to $1.2MM, but instead the club will save that amount in cash and cap space.

Carriker expressed optimism last week about returning to the field in 2014, and was hopeful the Redskins would give him a chance. If the team had shared that optimism, perhaps a restructure or pay cut would’ve been a possibility. However, it looks like the 29-year-old will have to sign elsewhere to have a chance at a comeback in ’14.

As for the other three players cut by the Redskins, Quinn, Jamison, and Meggett were all on minimum-salary contracts and weren’t expected to be contributors to the club in 2014.
