Terrelle Pryor

Jaguars To Sign Terrelle Pryor

The Jaguars are expected to sign wide receiver Terrelle Pryor, a source tells Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter). Pryor worked out for the Jags on Wednesday and they were quick to make an offer.

Pryor has an opportunity to regain his footing in Jacksonville, where the wide receiver group is headlined by the likes of Keelan ColeMarqise LeeDede Westbrook, and Chris Conley. His history with offensive coordinator John DeFilippo also helps – DeFilippo was the Browns’ offensive coordinator in 2015, the first year of Pryor’s wide receiver experiment. When DeFilippo left for the Eagles the following year, Pryor exploded for 77 catches, 1,007 yards, and four touchdowns.

Unfortunately, Pryor has not replicated that production over the last two years. In 2017, he joined the Redskins after that on a one-year contract, but he finished out with a 20/240/1 stat line. Last year, he split time with the Jets and Bills and had just 16 catches for 252 yards and two touchdowns. Injuries have been a roadblock for Pryor, but there’s reason to believe that he can be a difference-maker if healthy.

Jaguars Work Out Terrelle Pryor

The Jaguars will work out free agent wide receiver Terrelle Pryor on Wednesday, sources tell NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport (on Twitter). Pryor spent time with the Bills and Jets last year but finished out with just 16 catches for 252 yards and two touchdowns in eight games.

The former Ohio State quarterback broke out in 2016 with the Browns, tallying 77 catches for 1,007 yards and four touchdowns. He joined the Redskins after that on a one-year contract, but was unable to take advantage of the platform deal. His 2017 season ended with a 20/240/1 stat line.

It’s fair to wonder whether injuries continued to hamper Pryor’s production last year. The Jets released Pryor in October while he was dealing with a groin strain. Days later, he declared himself to be close to 100% healthy, but he didn’t look all that sharp with the Bills. The 29-year-old (30 in June) had a couple of solid performances with the Jets in the fall, so there’s still reason to believe that Pryor can be a difference maker in the NFL.

The Jaguars’ wide receiver group currently features Keelan Cole, Marqise Lee, Dede Westbrook, and Chris Conley.

Lions Promote WR Andy Jones From P-Squad, Work Out Terrelle Pryor

With Marvin Jones out for Sunday’s game, the Lions promoted wide receiver Andy Jones to help their depleted pass-catcher corps.

But prior to that decision, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reports they worked out Terrelle Pryor (Twitter link). Cut by both the Jets and Bills this season, Pryor is back in free agency, where he’s began the past two offseasons.

The Bills cut Pryor after one game. He’d previously voiced concerns about his role with the Jets. While he received more playing time later in his Jets tenure due to injuries to other Jet receivers, Pryor was released. His career has trended downward since an injury-plagued 2017 in Washington depleted his value.

In 2016, Pryor surpassed 1,000 yards with a Browns team that used five quarterbacks. But he settled for a one-year Redskins deal and signed for less with the Jets this offseason.

Jones spent time on Detroit’s active roster earlier this season before being waived. He made his way to the Lions’ practice squad earlier this month and will now return to the active roster. A second-year UDFA, Jones saw action in one Lions game this season.

Bills Cut WR Terrelle Pryor

The Bills released wide receiver Terrelle Pryor, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com (on Twitter). Pryor was signed just a couple of weeks ago, but didn’t do much in his two games with Buffalo.

In Pryor’s first game with the Bills, he was on the field for 83% of the team’s snaps. On Sunday against the Jets, he saw just 43% of snaps. His brief stint in Buffalo is now over after catching just two passes for 17 yards.

The former Ohio State quarterback broke out in 2016 with the Browns, tallying 77 catches for 1,007 yards and four touchdowns. He joined the Redskins after that on a one-year contract, but was unable to take advantage of the platform deal. His 2017 season ended with a 20/240/1 stat line, and he has a similar 16/252/2 line through eight games this year.

It’s fair to wonder whether injuries are still hampering Pryor’s production. The Jets released Pryor in October while he was dealing with a groin strain. Days later, he declared himself to be close to 100% healthy, but he didn’t look all that sharp with the Bills. The 29-year-old had a couple of solid performances with the Jets this fall, so there’s still reason to believe that Pryor can be a difference maker in the NFL.

Bills To Sign WR Terrelle Pryor

The Bills are set to sign wide receiver Terrelle Pryor, as Josina Anderson of ESPN.com tweets. Pryor is en route to Buffalo to sign a deal that could allow him to play as soon as soon as Sunday against the Bears.

The Bills could certainly use some size at wide receiver and not the kind that Kelvin Benjamin offers. Pryor can provide that and, if healthy, he has the potential to produce like he did in 2016 with the Browns.

Injuries prevented Pryor from doing much of anything with the Redskins in 2017 and his Jets tenure ended rather unceremoniously this year. But, before a groin injury slowed him, Pryor showed flashes for Gang Green, including a 5/57/1 showing against the Colts in Week 6.

In his career 2016 season, Pryor hauled in 77 catches for 1,007 yards and four scores.

Bills Offer Contract To Terrelle Pryor

The Bills have offered Terrelle Pryor a contract that is currently under consideration, a source tells ESPN.com’s Josina Anderson (on Twitter). The wide receiver flew into Buffalo for a meeting on Sunday night and he could put pen to paper soon.

The Bills’ offense can use all the help it can get, particularly after last week’s 37-5 drumming at the hands of the Colts. Pryor wouldn’t be able to help the Bills against the Patriots on Monday night, but he could provide them with another weapon starting on Sunday against the Bears.

Currently, Zay Jones, Kelvin Benjamin, and Andre Holmes make up the Bills’ top three receivers. Sixth-round rookie and UDFA Ray-Ray McCloud are also on the roster.

Pryor would add some experience to that group, though he won’t be able to do much about their offensive line woes. The Bills’ OL kept things together for the first month of the season, but the wheels have completely come off in the last two games. There’s also the matter of the quarterback position. Rookie Josh Allen, who was already working to get his sea legs, is out for an undetermined period of time with an elbow injury, leaving veteran Derek Anderson as the team’s temporary starter.

Free Agent Terrelle Pryor Drawing Interest

Free agent wide receiver Terrelle Pryor says he is close to 100% healthy and could be ready to play as soon as Sunday, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com tweets. Pryor has already been contacted by several interested teams, and Schefter says he may be an option for those that missed out on Amari Cooper.

Cooper, of course, is now a member of the Cowboys after shipping a first-round pick to Oakland for the former No. 4 overall selection. Five other teams, including the Jets and Eagles, were in on the bidding until the Raiders pulled the trigger.

The Jets cut Pryor over the weekend with an injury settlement. Gang Green is reportedly interested in a reunion, but they’ll face competition from other clubs.

Pryor has not returned to his Browns form, but he has caught touchdown passes in each of the past two games. In the Jets’ Week 6 win over the Colts, he hauled in five passes for 57 yards. Pryor should hold plenty of appeal for contenders, especially if he is healthy.

Jets Release WR Terrelle Pryor

Terrelle Pryor‘s tenure with the Jets has ended… for now.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweets that the organization is releasing the veteran receiver. Pryor has a tear in his groin and is expected to be out for the next two weeks. Schefter notes that the organization would be interested in bringing Pryor back, but they’ll likely face competition from other teams.

The Jets reached an injury settlement with Pryor, per ESPN.com’s Rich Cimini (on Twitter).

Pryor is a vested veteran, and at this point on the NFL calendar, such players do not have to pass through waivers before hitting free agency. While select other teams may eye Pryor as a possible depth piece once he returns to full health, his stock has dropped since his breakout Browns year.

The well-traveled quarterback-turned-wideout battled ankle injuries in 2017 and this offseason, and the Jets weren’t using him too much earlier this year. Pryor complained about his role at the beginning of the season but stood to make a bigger impact while Quincy Enunwa is out with a high ankle sprain. With both Enunwa and Pryor out of the picture, the Jets’ once-deep wide receiver group is depleted going into Sunday’s game against the Vikings.

Gang Green will turn to 2017 starters Robby Anderson and Jermaine Kearse as its top targets in Week 7. Pryor’s release means, as of right now, only four wideouts — the aforementioned duo, Andre Roberts and Charone Peake — are on the Jets’ active roster.

While Pryor has not returned to his Browns form, he could have helped the Enunwa-less Jets. He’d caught touchdown passes in each of the past two games, hauling in five passes for 57 yards in the Jets’ Week 6 win over the Colts. For the season, Pryor has 14 receptions for 235 yards.

The former Ohio State quarterback standout was an in-demand free agent in 2017 after breaking out for 1,000-plus yards with the ’16 Browns but settled for a one-year deal with the Redskins. A lack of production and an ankle malady made him a less coveted target this offseason, but the Jets did battle other suitors in signing Pryor to a one-year, $4.5MM deal. They could have to do so again if they want to bring him back.

AFC Notes: Colts, Texans, Pryor, Bolts

Anthony Castonzo will make his Colts debut on Thursday night. He’s active against the Patriots. The eighth-year left tackle has been sidelined for most of the past few months because of a hamstring injury, one he’s twice aggravated. Frank Reich said he did not intend to use an IR spot on Castonzo, and the first-year Colts coach’s confidence in the edge blocker being ready to return soon turned out to be appropriate. Castonzo participated in three limited practices this week.

Here’s the latest from the AFC, going into tonight’s intra-AFC matchup.

  • Indianapolis won’t, however, have the services of its top tackler. Darius Leonard, the NFL’s runaway tackles leader four games into his rookie season, will be out. The Colts tweeted the linebacker is not expected to dress against the Patriots. Both are technically active but are not going to play. An ankle injury is restricting Leonard, who has 54 tackles (seven for loss) and four sacks. He joins T.Y. Hilton, Marlon Mack and Kenny Moore among Colts who aren’t playing in Foxborough.
  • Seantrel Henderson‘s Texans stay did not produce much work. The one-year, $4MM free agent addition suffered a season-ending broken ankle in Week 1 against the Pats. The tackle who recently underwent surgery will be a UFA again in March but wants to return to the Texans. “Of course, I would like to be back,” Henderson said, via the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson. “I love it here.” Julie’n Davenport replaced Henderson at right tackle but was benched. Kendall Lamm‘s now playing there.
  • The AFC’s Los Angeles team has seen its wide receivers receive as much publicity as the Rams’ have, but the Chargers contingent’s quite deep in its own right. Although, it will be thinner for a bit going forward. Travis Benjamin is expected to be out for at least two weeks, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tweets. Benjamin’s been battling a foot injury this season. The Bolts hope he can return either for their Week 7 Titans game or after their Week 8 bye. L.A. still has Keenan Allen, Mike Williams and Tyrell Williams, however.
  • Terrelle Pryor only played two snaps against the Jaguars. He’s not happy with his current Jets role. “It’s kind of nerve-racking. I don’t like it,” Pryor said, via Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, about his usage dissatisfaction. “It is what it is, though. You get frustrated, you know? You don’t go out there and make plays. I’ve shown when the ball comes to me, I make plays. I’m a big play waiting to happen.” Noting Jermaine Kearse surpassed Pryor in Gang Green’s wideout pecking order, Mehta adds Pryor suffered a groin injury during practice last week. Pryor’s experienced persistent injury trouble during his Jets and Redskins tenures. He did not live up to expectations in Washington and saw ankle problems recur in New York this offseason. Pryor, however, is averaging 19.8 yards per catch (eight grabs for 158 yards) but has only received one target the past two weeks.

AFC East Notes: Jets, Dolphins, Pats, Brady

Kicker Cairo Santos didn’t play in the Jets‘ first preseason game and hasn’t been practicing as he deals with a chronic groin injury, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. This issue has come up for Santos in the past: in 2017, he missed most of training camp with the Chiefs with the same ailment, then subsequently aggravated the injury in Week 3, leading to his release. He latched on with the Bears, but the same groin problem forced Santos to injured reserve after he underwent a surgical procedure. While Santos calls his current regimen “a normal process,” New York isn’t going to keep two kickers on its 53-man squad, so Santos’ roster spot could be in danger as the regular season approaches. The Jets have just one other kicker on their roster (2016 undrafted free agent Taylor Bertolet), while free agent options include Nick Novak, Giorgio Tavecchio, Connor Barth, and Nick Folk.

Here’s more from the AFC East:

  • Dolphins wide receiver DeVante Parker is considered “week-to-week” with a broken middle finger on his right hand, tweets Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. While the Dolphins are “hopeful” Parker will be available for Week 1, Miami head coach Adam Gase said Parker isn’t currently able to catch footballs, per Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald (Twitter link). The Dolphins invested in their wideout corps this offseason, signing both Danny Amendola and Albert Wilson to multi-year deals. Those two veterans, when added to holdovers Kenny Stills and Leonte Carroo, should give Miami enough depth to withstand a potential Parker absence. Parker, a first-round pick in the 2016 draft, hauled in 57 catches for 670 yards and one touchdown a season ago.
  • Speaking of injuries, the unspecified injury Jets wide receiver Terrelle Pryor suffered in May was actually a broken ankle, per Cimini (Twitter links). It was a new break for Pryor, who also broke his ankle in 2017 with the Redskins (an injury which subsequently landed him on injured reserve). New York head coach Todd Bowles was apparently not pleased at Pryor’s disclosure, telling reporters that Pryor should “keep his mouth shut” with regard to injury news. Pryor, who posted only 20 receptions in 11 games with Washington last season, inked a one-year, $4.5MM with Gang Green that contains $2MM in full guarantees.
  • Asked about his previously hinted desire to play until he’s 45 years old, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady mostly deflected, as Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk writes. “You know, I think you always have short-term goals and long-term goals and this year’s the one I’m focused on and obviously I want to play for a long time so I’ve said that for a while,” Brady said. “Feel like I’m a broken record. You know, it’s really this year is the focus and this team. This team needs a great quarterback and you know, hopefully I can go out and be that.”
