JoJo Dickson

Chiefs Waive Terrelle Pryor, Three Others

3:39pm: In addition to confirming that Pryor has been waived, the Chiefs also announced that they’ve cut linebacker JoJo Dickson, long snapper Jorgen Hus, and wideout Corbin Louks.

3:13pm: The Chiefs have removed one of the five quarterbacks from their roster, and the player being waived is a notable one. According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk (Twitter link), the team has cut former Raider Terrelle Pryor.

Pryor appeared in 11 games in 2013 for the Raiders, starting nine of them, but was underwhelming in those contests. Overall, he completed 156 of 272 pass attempts (57.4%) for 1,798 yards, seven touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He did add some value with his legs, racking up 576 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns, including a 93-yard score.

Since then, however, Pryor has failed to stick with any one team. He was waived by the Seahawks during last August’s roster cutdowns, and was unable to catch on with another club during the 2014 season. The 25-year-old’s stint with the Chiefs only lasted a few months — he signed a futures contract with the team after the 2014 season.

With Pryor no longer in the mix, the Chiefs will head into the summer with Alex Smith, Chase Daniel, Aaron Murray, and Tyler Bray at quarterback.

Chiefs Sign 14 To Futures Contracts

The Chiefs announced the signings of 14 players to futures contracts earlier today. Here’s the full rundown, courtesy of Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star:

All of the players came from KC’s practice squad, with the exception of Hus, Sherrod, Feigt, and Ware. Defensive tackle Loni Fangupo and wide receiver Corbin Louks were the lone members of the taxi squad that were not signed to futures deals.

AFC West Notes: Raiders, Moss, Chiefs

Former San Antonio mayor Henry Cisneros will lead a group of governmental and civic leaders set to meet with Raiders officials today to discuss the possibility of the team moving to Texas should talks with Oakland fall through, per Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News. While Cisneros believes the idea of the Raiders coming to San Antonio is a “50-50 proposition,” it’s hard to imagine the team leaving California, and Jason Cole of Bleacher Report hears the same thing from three sources. According to Cole (Twitter link), owner Mark Davis is using San Antonio as leverage, and there’s “no way” the team moves there rather than staying in Oakland or relocating to Los Angeles.

Here are a few more Friday morning links from around the AFC West:

  • Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie’s 2014 draft might save his job, according to CSN Bay Area’s Scott Bair, who says the team’s first three picks – linebacker Khalil Mack, quarterback Derek Carr, and guard Gabe Jackson – look like “franchise fixtures.”
  • Could we see 37-year-old Randy Moss back on an NFL field as a player again? The former Pro Bowl receiver confirmed that the Seahawks reached out to him about a possible comeback after trading Percy Harvin, but said he’d only consider coming out of retirement if it meant having an opportunity to catch passes from a player like Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning. “I’m gonna tell you this, for me to come out of retirement for a player such as Peyton Manning, I would consider that,” Moss said last week on Fox Sports’ The Peter Schrager Podcast last week, per Nicki Jhabvala of the Denver Post. “I really would consider it. I’m still in great shape, I can still run. I’m not the most old, but just by looking at the things I see on Sundays, I can still go out there and catch some passes and catch some touchdowns.”
  • The Chiefs had linebacker JoJo Dickson and defensive back Cannon Smith in for auditions this week, according to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun (via Twitter).

Cardinals Release Jay Feely, Max Starks, 11 Others

12:13pm: In addition to Feely, the Cardinals have cut 12 other players, trimming their roster to the required 75-man limit, per a press release:

Starks is 10-year veteran who has spent most of his career with the Steelers, while Lindley started four games for the Cards in 2012.

11:35am: The Cardinals have released veteran kicker Jay Feely, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com (on Twitter). Feely, a 13-year veteran, had been with Arizona since 2010.

Feely, 38, thanked the franchise on Twitter: “It’s been an honor to play for the [Cardinals and owner] Michael Bidwill, thank you for your leadership and friendship. AZ will still be home!” The former Michigan Wolverine has lived a kicker’s nomadic life, spending time with the Falcons, Giants, Dolphins, Chiefs, and Jets. For his career, Feely has converted 82.7% of his field goals (329-for-398).

The Cardinals save $635K against the cap with this move, but money probably wasn’t Arizona’s prime motivation. 23-year-old Chandler Cantanzaro, the only other PK on the Cards’ roster, will presumably become the starting kicker. He was an undrafted free agent out of Clemson.

It’s just my speculation, but I wonder if the Broncos would be interested in bringing Feely aboard. Matt Prater was recently suspended for the first four games of the season, and Feely could add some stability to the kicking position until Prater is ready to return.
