Trade Rumors: Dolphins, Jennings, Sweat, Patriots, Chargers, Bills
We’ve seen a bit of a change of trade deadline strategy in Miami since the departure of former general manager Chris Grier. With Grier, the Dolphins were not planning on being very active at the trade deadline. There was some thought that interim GM Champ Kelly would be a bit more open to hearing offers, and after some initial refusal of that notion, the team has changed its tune.
We’ve seen this a bit in rumors, as edge rushers Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb, and Matt Judon have been the subject of some calls, and the Dolphins have even seemed more open to the idea of trading wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. According to Armando Salguero of OutKick, team owner Stephen Ross “approved of” — and even encouraged — Kelly selling off valuable players, if he could.
Additionally, per Salguero, Ross informed head coach Mike McDaniel that his job was safe for the season and would continue to be safe “if he can rally the team.” It’s anyone’s guess how McDaniel is expected to improve the team’s performance as the front office auctions off its best players, but that appears to be the challenge posed to the fourth-year head coach. This challenge puts particular stress on McDaniel’s handling of the quarterback position moving forward, following rumors that Tua Tagovailoa could face a demotion from his starting role.
Here are a few other rumors as we have under 48 hours remaining until the trade deadline:
- 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings has worked his way up from the practice squad in his rookie season to a full-time starting role in his fifth year with the team. Jennings sought an extension in the offseason, and he threatened a trade request in order to gain leverage in negotiations. Some teams reportedly called at the time, but with so many injuries at the position already, San Francisco rebuffed them. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, those same teams appear to be interested again. Head coach Kyle Shanahan has claimed he “would be very surprised” if Jennings gets dealt, mostly because they’ve yet to see the return from injury this year of Brandon Aiyuk. Rapoport suggests that, aside from that, Jennings wouldn’t be off the table.
- We’ve already reported that the Titans appear to be open for business in the trade market with every player except rookie No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward and starting defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons. Any other player is seemingly available. Some have been surprised that this apparently includes last year’s second-round defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat, but Terry McCormick of TitansInsider.com sees the reasoning. Per McCormick, the team has “not been enamored with him” so far. If someone with interest in the 24-year-old out of Texas comes with the right price, it sounds like Tennessee would be willing to part with him.
- With Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson dealing with his recent toe injury, and with New England’s rushers underwhelming so far this year overall, rumors have made the rounds that the team could be looking at the position in the trade market. Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels attempted to silence those rumors, per Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald, telling the media, “I think we have all the answers we need.” With Stevenson out today, the Patriots leaned on rookie second-round pick TreVeyon Henderson and RB3 Terrell Jennings against Atlanta. They also recently signed veteran D’Ernest Johnson to the practice squad and called him up for the game. Despite no single back averaging more than 35 rushing yards per game this season, McDaniels is apparently comfortable with his stable.
- On Saturday, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported that the Chargers were “exploring potential offensive line additions” on the trade market. If they weren’t before, they sure are now. Already dealing with a season-ending injury to left tackle Rashawn Slater and injuries this week to right guard Mekhi Becton and backup tackle Austin Deculus, Los Angeles saw its other original starter Joe Alt and replacement starter Bobby Hart exit today’s game with injuries. Down to their third options at both tackle spots, the Chargers may need to get active if they plan on continuing their push for the playoffs.
- In regard to the Bills‘ pursuit of wide receiver help through the trade market, while a specific name to add hasn’t yet emerged, another name seemingly has. According to Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic, if Buffalo makes an addition via trade and a corresponding move is needed to fit them on the 53-man roster, depth cornerback Brandon Codrington would be the likeliest cut candidate.

The Steelers are getting Harrison back at a crucial time. Fellow linebacker Cole Holcomb has been ruled out this weekend with an illness — as has safety Chuck Clark, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network — and Harrison should be able to reinforce the group. He has plenty of experience playing next to starter Patrick Queen from their time together in Baltimore, so perhaps he’ll be able to step in and contribute right away.
The Chargers continue to see their running backs room plagued with injury. Haskins joins Omarion Hampton and Najee Harris on injured reserve. Johnson and Patterson will suit up tomorrow to provide some depth behind lone survivor Kimani Vidal.
With Terry McLaurin once again set to miss time, Burks, the newly signed p-squad addition, will make his Washington debut. Also a newly signed p-squad addition, Lewis will make his Denver debut this weekend. If he sees game time, 2025 will officially be Lewis’ 20th season in the NFL.
After missing the last three games, Gross-Matos appeared to be close to returning to play. According to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports, the 27-year-old re-injured his hamstring at practice on Thursday and will now miss another four games.
For Leota in New Orleans, Mosby in Green Bay, Sermon in Pittsburgh, Zakelj in San Francisco, and both Proche and Watkins in Tennessee, this Sunday will be their third and final standard gameday practice squad elevation on their current deals. In order to appear in any more games after this, their respective teams will need to sign them to the active roster.
Tony Pollard, T’Vondre Sweat Among Titans Drawing Trade Interest
The Titans swung a noteworthy deal earlier this week in sending cornerback Roger McCreary to the Rams. With the 1-7 club potentially lining up for a fire sale, more players could follow McCreary out of Tennessee before Tuesday’s trade deadline.
Running back Tony Pollard and defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat are among the Titans generating the most interest around the NFL, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic. The previously reported pass-rushing duo of Arden Key and Dre’Mont Jones are also on teams’ radars, per Russini. Albert Breer of SI.com adds tight end Chig Okonkwo to the list of Titans who have drawn interest.
With rookie quarterback and No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward at the helm, the Titans will “be careful about further gutting certain areas of the roster,” Breer writes. Having already fired head coach Brian Callahan last month, the Titans don’t want to further risk stunting Ward’s development. Trading Pollard and/or Okonwko would subtract from Ward’s weapons, though neither player has put up big numbers on a last-ranked offense this year.
Pollard, a former Cowboy, is in the second season of a three-year, $21MM deal he signed in March 2024. Previous Titans general manager Ran Carthon was at the controls then. The current regime of president of football operations Chad Brinker and GM Mike Borgonzi may be willing to part with Pollard, which would leave Tyjae Spears as the Titans’ No. 1 back. While Pollard is due to count $9.25MM against the salary cap in 2026, the Titans or another team could release him in the offseason and save $7.25MM.
After turning in his third straight 1,000-yard showing in 2024, Pollard has rushed for 424 yards and two touchdowns on a career-low 3.9 YPC this season. The 28-year-old also entered 2025 with four straight seasons of at least 39 receptions under his belt. With 18 catches through eight games this year, he’s on a similar pace.
Kansas City, New England, and the Los Angeles Chargers are among contending teams that are reportedly in the market for running backs. Pollard could be of interest to those clubs as a prominent name in a thin market for RBs, especially if they deem the Jets’ asking price for Breece Hall prohibitive.
Okonwko, 26, has been a mainstay in Tennessee’s lineup since the team used a fourth-round pick on him in 2022. While the former Maryland Terrapin has played in 59 straight games since his pro career began, a trip to free agency is looming in the offseason. The Titans could move on via trade before then, leaving an acquiring team to take on the remainder of Okonkwo’s $3.41MM salary. Okonkwo leads the Titans with 27 receptions this season, putting him on pace for his third straight 50-catch campaign, but they have a successor in fourth-round rookie Gunnar Helm.
It’s fair to say Sweat would command the largest return of any of the Titans’ potential trade candidates. The 2024 second-rounder from Texas started in 16 of 17 games as a rookie and logged 51 tackles and a sack. An ankle injury has limited Sweat to three games (all starts) this year, but the 366-pounder is now healthy. He has already notched a personal-best two sacks in 2025.
The Titans, who understandably aren’t in any hurry to move on from Sweat, “would like to see if a new staff can reach him,” Breer writes. Interim head coach Mike McCoy replaced Callahan, but it’s unlikely the Titans will promote him to the full-time job after the season. If that’s the case, and if Tennessee keeps Sweat, a different Titans staff will be in charge of getting the most out of him in 2026.

After trading safety Kyle Dugger earlier this week, the Patriots have added some depth at the position, as the team snagged John Saunders Jr. off Miami’s practice squad. The rookie went undrafted out of Ole Miss in this year’s draft, and he quickly found a job with the Dolphins. He’s spent the entire season on Miami’s taxi squad, and now he’s set to make his NFL debut with their division rivals.

- Released: T Brandon Parker
Tennessee Titans
- Signed: CB Kemon Hall, WR Hal Presley
- Released: LB Ochaun Mathis
Washington Commanders
- Released: K Matthew Wright
The Steelers have seen injuries ravage their secondary in recent weeks. They made a big move not long ago to address the position, but Forrest comes in with some additional experience, providing depth at safety.
The 49ers are letting go of Parker, a former third-round pick who failed to find success with the Raiders, in order to make room for Dillard, a former first-round pick who failed to ever establish himself as a full-time starter in the NFL. Dillard spent the offseason with San Francisco, eventually getting released from injured reserve with an injury settlement. He’s been a free agent ever since and now signs his first ever practice squad deal.
After getting signed to the Commanders’ practice squad to fill in for an injured Matt Gay last night, Wright returns to free agency. In a low-scoring Sunday night affair, Wright made his only kick — a single extra point attempt.
Minor NFL Transactions: 10/28/25
Here are Tuesday’s minor NFL moves as the headlines are taken up by bigger names due to the impending trade deadline:

Pittsburgh Steelers
- Waived (with injury settlement): DT Domenique Davis
Tennessee Titans
- Signed off Packers’ practice squad: CB Micah Robinson
- Signed off Patriots’ practice squad: OLB Truman Jones
- Placed on IR: OLB Ali Gaye
The Bengals cleared out a few roster spots today as Heyward will need about four weeks to work his way back from a hairline fracture in his fibula. Pennel, a 12-year veteran on the interior defensive line, had started to cede his defensive snaps to younger options and found himself falling down the depth chart despite appearing in every game this season. He requested his release from the team, and it was granted.
Similar to when San Francisco brought Greenlaw back from injured reserve, the 49ers are releasing Ehlinger to make room on the 53-man roster. Like last time, the plan is for Ehlinger to remain in Denver via an addition to the practice squad tomorrow.
Rams Acquire Roger McCreary From Titans
Roger McCreary was known to be one of the Titans players on the trading block and he has now been dealt. The fourth-year cornerback is headed to the Rams.
A trade has been agreed to between Tennessee and Los Angeles, as first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Conditional 2026 Day 3 picks are being swapped. The Titans will receive a fifth-rounder closer to the top of the round while the Rams are in line to collect the Titans’ sixth-round pick which ends up closest to the bottom of that round’s order. The swap is now official.
Tennessee traded away a fifth-round pick to the Rams last summer for linebacker Ernest Jones. As Ian Rapoport of NFL Network clarifies, that selection now belongs to the Titans once more. The team will also still have a pair of sixth-round picks once it is determined which of Tennessee’s three selections in that round head to Los Angeles.
The Titans have struggled early in the 2025 campaign to the point head coach Brian Callahan was fired less than halfway through his second season at the helm. A new front office setup led by football operations president Chad Brinker and first-year general manager Mike Borgonzi is in place, something which has led many to believe a number of players acquired by previous regimes could be traded away over the coming days. With only quarterback Cam Ward and Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons seen as being truly untouchable, it will be interesting to see if further moves are made after this one.
McCreary has amassed 38 starts to date in his career, with his heaviest workloads coming at the beginning of his Titans tenure. The Auburn product logged every snap as a rookie and handled a 92% snap share the following season. Since then, however, his workload has declined. McCreary has made just three starts in 2025, finding himself on the field for 60% of the team’s snaps while operating in the slot. A change of scenery will now put him in the mix to carve out a role in Los Angeles’ secondary.
The Rams have rotated Cobie Durant, Darious Williams and Emmanuel Forbes on the perimeter this season. That has left Quentin Lake to handle slot duties. He and McCreary, 25, will now compete for the top spot on the depth chart in that regard. Both Lake and McCreary are attached to the final year of their rookie contracts and are thus pending free agents. Prior to today’s trade, Dianna Russini of The Athletic identified the Rams as a team in the market for an addition on this front.
For the Titans, meanwhile, this move thins out their cornerbacks room even further. L’Jarius Sneed is on injured reserve, so losing McCreary leaves Tennessee with Jalyn Armour-Davis, Darrell Baker, Marcus Harris and Samuel Womack atop the depth chart to close out the season. The team sits mid-pack in terms of pass defense, but that could emerge as an issue moving forward as Tennessee (1-7) finishes the campaign.
With a 5-2 record, the Rams find themselves in a logjam atop the NFC West. After reaching the divisional round of the playoffs last year, making another postseason run is an obvious goal this time around. Further trades could be coming for Los Angeles, but at a minimum today’s deal will give the team depth in the secondary.
Texas HC Steve Sarkisian Denies Interest In NFL HC Job
University of Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian was seen as a candidate for an HC gig in the NFL during the last hiring cycle, and he reportedly turned down interview requests from two pro clubs before signing a one-year extension with Texas that keeps him tied to the Longhorns through 2031. The latest reporting on Sarkisian’s potential jump to the NFL met with significant backlash.
On Saturday, Dianna Russini of The Athletic (subscription required) reported that Sarkisian’s camp has let NFL execs know the 51-year-old would be interested in joining the professional ranks as a head coach. Russini said Sarkisian would consider the Titans’ HC job, which is the only one currently manned by an interim bench boss (Mike McCoy, who took over after Brian Callahan’s in-season dismissal).
After Russini’s report was published, Sarkisian’s agents were quick to issue a statement refuting it. In that statement, Jimmy Sexton and Ed Marynowitz of CAA said, “[a]ny reports regarding communications on coaching opportunities are patently false and wildly inaccurate. Sark is solely focused on coaching the University of Texas football team.”
Following the Longhorns’ overtime victory against Mississippi State on Saturday, Sarkisian himself blasted Russini’s report during his post-game presser (video link).
In a lengthy diatribe, Sarkisian said, “I’d love to touch on this, so bear with me for a second, because it really pisses me off that one person can make a report that, in turn, the entire media and sports world runs with as factual, to the point that my agency and my agents had to put a statement out, which they’ve never done historically. CAA, Jimmy Sexton, Ed Marynowitz have never done that. But I had to do it to protect my locker room and my team, and I thought it was absolutely ridiculous” (via Anwar Richardson of OrangeBloods.com).
Sarkisian, whose last NFL work came as the offensive coordinator for the Falcons in the 2017-18 seasons, has been in Austin since 2021. He guided his team to the CFP semifinals in each of the past two seasons, and though the Longhorns are currently 6-2 and the No. 22 team in the country, one-score wins over unranked Kentucky and Mississippi State have not necessairly buoyed confidence in the program’s 2025 prognosis. In his first season as a full-time starter, quarterback Arch Manning has not lived up to the overwhelming hype that surrounded him before the campaign got underway, though he did play well in the victory over the Bulldogs.
Sources within the program have expressed optimism about Manning’s future, and Sarkisian’s contract is reflective of the school’s faith in its HC. That may not stop interested NFL teams from calling, but in order to put his current locker room and his recruits at ease, Sarkisian clearly felt it was necessary to adamantly deny the veracity of Russini’s report.
“I thought it was completely unprofessional of that person to put that report out, and the fact that everybody ran with it is borderline embarrassing for the media,” he added. “And I respect what you guys do — I really do — and everybody else. But the fact that everyone ran with that as truth is really embarrassing.”
Minor NFL Transactions: 10/25/25
Here are Saturday’s minor moves and standard gameday practice squad elevations for tomorrow’s slate of games:
Baltimore Ravens
- Elevated: DT Taven Bryan, S Keondre Jackson
Carolina Panthers
- Elevated: OLB Boogie Basham, QB Hendon Hooker
Cincinnati Bengals
- Elevated: LB Joe Giles-Harris
Cleveland Browns
- Elevated: DT Sam Kamara, QB Bailey Zappe
Denver Broncos
- Elevated: LB Jordan Turner
Houston Texans
- Activated from IR: CB Jaylin Smith
- Elevated: WR Jared Wayne
- Waived: TE Brenden Bates
Indianapolis Colts
- Elevated: CB Cameron Mitchell, DE Durell Nchami
Miami Dolphins
- Elevated: TE Hayden Rucci, CB Kendall Sheffield
New England Patriots
- Elevated: S Richie Grant, RB Terrell Jennings
New Orleans Saints
- Elevated: LB Eku Leota
Philadelphia Eagles
- Activated from IR: WR Darius Cooper
San Francisco 49ers
- Elevated: DE Trevis Gipson, OL Nick Zakelj
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Elevated: QB Connor Bazelak, OLB Mohamed Kamara
Tennessee Titans
- Elevated: WR James Proche
Recently named QB2 Shedeur Sanders found his way to the injury report today with a back injury. By elevating Zappe, Cleveland is ensuring Sanders won’t play tomorrow, since in order to have three quarterbacks dressed for gameday, all three passers must be on the 53-man roster. Zappe will back up Dillon Gabriel, and Sanders will likely be in sweats. Similarly in Carolina, with Bryce Young set to sit this week, Hooker has been called up to back up Andy Dalton.
Both Buccaneers quarterbacks, Baker Mayfield and Teddy Bridgewater, were on the injury report this week, though neither received a “questionable” injury designation as result of their ailments. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported that both passers are expected to be available, but with Bazelak taking up a spot on the active roster, it seems likely that only one other quarterback will be suited up alongside the practice squad callup. Because Bazelak’s not on the 53-man roster, only two passers can be active. Tampa Bay can still designate Bazelak as the inactive third quarterback, but doing so would seemingly be making this elevation moot.
There is no corresponding move necessary for Philadelphia to add Cooper. The team received a two-game roster exemption after signing veteran defensive end Brandon Graham, so they had an open roster spot.
For Basham in Carolina and Jennings in New England, this will be their third and final standard gameday practice squad elevations. If either of their respective teams want them to play in another game this season, they will need to first be signed to the 53-man roster.
Minor NFL Transactions: 10/24/25
Here are today’s minor moves as we head into the eighth weekend of the regular season:
New Orleans Saints
- Claimed off waivers (from Ravens): TE Zaire Mitchell-Paden
- Waived: RB Velus Jones
New York Jets
- Claimed off waivers (from Vikings): LB Kobe King
Seattle Seahawks
- Signed: TE Eric Saubert
Tennessee Titans
- Signed from practice squad: WR Mason Kinsey
Mitchell-Paden, an undrafted free agent back in 2022, saw the first regular season snaps of his NFL career earlier this year as the Ravens dealt with the absence of a then-injured Isaiah Likely. Mitchell-Paden was waived yesterday in order to make room for practice squad quarterback Tyler Huntley, and New Orleans took the initiative to bring him on, cutting Jones, who had been promoted from the practice squad on Tuesday, to make room on the 53-man roster.
King was waived so that Minnesota could make room for running back Aaron Jones to come off of injured reserve, and Kinsey is getting promoted from the practice squad to the 53-man roster in Tennessee after appearing as an elevation is last week’s game. Saubert’s brief stint on the free agent market appears to have had some procedural purpose. Seattle released the veteran on Wednesday, and no other roster spot juggling was done before the team signed him back today.
