Browns Trade Austin Corbett To Rams
The Browns have traded guard Austin Corbett to the Rams. In exchange, the L.A. will send a fifth-round pick in the 2021 draft to Cleveland, per Tom Pelissero of NFL.com (on Twitter).
Corbett, the No. 33 overall pick in the 2018 draft, has appeared in 14 games since becoming a pro. This year, he appeared in three games as a reserve.
After the Browns traded Kevin Zeitler to the Giants, Corbett was thought to be a shoo-in to take over as Cleveland’s starting right guard. That didn’t happen – Corbett didn’t meet the club’s expectations and veteran Eric Kush wound up as one of the team’s top five linemen instead.
The Rams acquired Corbett just as they shipped cornerback Marcus Peters to the Ravens. The team acquired a 2020 fifth-rounder for Peters from one AFC North franchise and will send its 2021 fifth-rounder to another. Busy day for the 3-3 Rams.
Cowboys’ Tyrone Crawford Done For Year
Cowboys defensive end Tyrone Crawford is done for the year, per a club announcement. The hip issue that plagued him throughout the offseason and kept him out of two games this year will sideline him for the rest of the campaign.
This hasn’t been a banner year for Crawford. First, the Cowboys weren’t sure if he’d be suspended for his role in an offseason bar fight. Then, his hip bursitis limited him to a part-time role this year, before ultimately leaving him with no role.
The Cowboys will likely turn to Joe Jackson and Trysten Hill for extra support and will probably add another defensive lineman to fortify the unit. The defensive line has been iffy on the whole and there’s still no word on Randy Gregory‘s status, so this is a rough one for the Cowboys.
On the plus side – Robert Quinn has looked strong so far this year and Antwaun Woods is back on the field after a three-game absence. The Cowboys will look to shake off their surprising loss to the Jets when they face the Eagles on Sunday night.
Eagles’ Jalen Mills Set For Return
The Eagles have opened the 21-day practicing window for Jalen Mills, according to head coach Doug Pederson. This means that Mills may return to the 53-man roster off of the PUP list within the next three weeks.

Per league rules, the Eagles can put Mills on the active roster at any point between now and then. If he is not activated, he’ll be barred from playing for the rest of this season.
The Eagles haven’t seen Mills in a while – his last appearance came in Week 8 of the 2018 campaign. Since then, he’s been dealing with a serious foot injury. Before all of that, he notched 167 tackles and three interceptions across three seasons with Philly.
Depending on how things go from here, Mills could return this Sunday against the Cowboys, the following week against the Bills, or on Nov. 3 vs. the Bears.
Bears Place DT Akiem Hicks On IR
The Bears have placed defensive tackle Akiem Hicks on injured reserve, according to a team announcement. Hicks has been soliciting medical opinions in recent days and, apparently, he’s been advised to stay off of the field.
This will not be a season-ender like Kyle Long’s injury, at least the Bears do not believe it will be. They are planning to make the impact defensive lineman one of their IR-return players later this season, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.com (on Twitter). Hicks is not expected to need surgery.
Hicks, who made the Pro Bowl last year, is a key cog in Chicago’s elite defense. Last year, he notched 7.5 sacks, a strong follow-up to his career high of 8.5 quarterback takedowns in 2017.
There was some hope that the team’s Week 6 bye would give Hicks some time to recover and return to action quickly. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. The Bears will look to rebound from their London loss to the Raiders on Sunday against the Saints without one of their best players.
Hicks signed a four year, $48MM extension with the Bears in September of 2017, a deal that included $22MM fully guaranteed at signing. Next year, he’s slated to count for an $11.8MM cap hit.
Connor Barwin Announces Retirement
Connor Barwin is hanging ’em up. This week, the longtime NFL pass-rusher announced his retirement from the sport.
“[On Tuesday], I turn 33 and after a decade of playing the greatest sport there is, I’m excited to say I’m moving on to the next chapter of my life,” Barwin wrote on social media. “To my coaches, teammates, fans, and family – thank you all! It was an honor to compete on Sundays for the last ten years. Houston, Philadelphia, LA, and New York – couldn’t have dreamed of a better journey. Thank you for the good times and all the support!”
Barwin enjoyed some of his best years with the Eagles from 2013-2016 and lobbied for a return late in the summer. That never came to fruition and Barwin is ready to move on to life after football.
Barwin’s very best season came in Philly in 2014 when he racked up 14.5 sacks, made the Pro Bowl, and earned second-team All-Pro honors. He signed a one-year deal with the Rams in 2017, and, although he had five sacks, his performance wasn’t well-regarded by the advanced metrics. Then, Barwin signed a two-year deal with the Giants before the 2018 season but didn’t make waves in New York, either.
While things didn’t necessarily end on a high note, Barwin leaves the game after an impressive total run. He notched 56.5 sacks across ten NFL seasons for the Texans, Eagles, Rams, and Giants, and that’s plenty to celebrate on his 33rd birthday.
Rams’ Joseph Noteboom Done For Year
Rams left guard Joseph Noteboom is done for the year, head coach Sean McVay announced. Unfortunately, team doctors didn’t need long to make a diagnosis after Noteboom tore his ACL and MCL.
[RELATED: Rams To Place Aqib Talib On IR]
Noteboom, a third-round pick in the 2018 draft, appeared in every game for the Rams last year and started for them on the interior line in all six games this year. That includes every snap of the first five games, plus ten snaps on Sunday, before the fateful injury.
Losing him will be rough, particularly on the heels of losing Aqib Talib on the other side of the ball. The Rams started 3-0, but they’re in the midst of a three-game skid with losses to the Bucs, Seahawks, and 49ers.
Eagles Cut LB Zach Brown
The Eagles have released linebacker Zach Brown, according to a team press release. The Eagles D came up short against the Vikings – after Brown ran his mouth a bit – and, now, Brown is no longer part of the team.
Brown was released by the Redskins back in March and scooped up by the Birds soon after on a one-year, $3MM deal. Unfortunately for him, he only got to see his old team once this year – the Eagles’ second showdown with the Redskins won’t take place until December.
Brown was supposed to help replace inside linebacker Jordan Hicks this year, but didn’t meet the Eagles’ expectations. The 29-year-old started in all six games before his release and registered 29 tackles in total.
Brown received extremely high grades from Pro Football Focus last year, grading out as their third best linebacker overall behind only Bobby Wagner and Luke Kuechly. It stands to reason that he won’t be out of work for long, though, as this past offseason taught us, he probably won’t secure the bag.
Rams To Place Aqib Talib On IR
For a second straight season, the Rams will place Aqib Talib on IR. The 12th-year cornerback’s rib injury will end up sidelining him for at least eight more weeks, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com tweets.
Talib missed Sunday’s game against the 49ers and would not be able to return until Week 15 because of this transaction. This timetable closely mirrors the Rams’ 2018 Talib plan. The Pro Bowler went on IR after Week 3 and returned in early December.
Los Angeles’ defense suffered last season without Talib, with teams picking on Marcus Peters in what became a tough season for the then-fourth-year veteran. The contract-year corner will again become the Rams’ top outside cover man. The Rams roster veteran Troy Hill, ex-waiver claim Darious Williams and third-round rookie David Long at corner. Hill started in Talib’s place against San Francisco.
The Rams were playing better when they placed Talib on IR in 2018. The defending NFC champions are now 3-3, having lost three straight. Talib’s future with the team is also murky, with the 33-year-old defender’s contract expiring at season’s end.
The Rams traded for Talib in their action-packed 2018 offseason but by December will have seen him miss 15 games. Talib was far more reliable in Denver, having missed just six games in four Broncos seasons.
Dolphins To Release DB Johnson Bademosi
One of the players acquired in the Laremy Tunsil deal, Johnson Bademosi received notice the Dolphins will release him, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle (on Twitter).
In addition to the draft picks the Texans sent to the Dolphins for Tunsil and Kenny Stills, they also dealt Bademosi and tackle Julie’n Davenport. Bademosi played in four Dolphins games but missed Sunday’s with an ankle injury.
A regular special-teamer, Bademosi spent time with the Browns, Lions, Patriots and Texans prior to the trade. He played mostly special teams in Miami but did see 30 defensive snaps between Weeks 3-4.
The Texans signed Bademosi in March 2018. Interestingly, Sunday was the first regular-season game the 29-year-old defender/special-teamer has missed in his eight-season career.
Jets To Activate TE Chris Herndon
Chris Herndon may be in line to finally make his 2019 debut. The Jets activated the tight end Monday, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News tweets. The team waived linebacker Frankie Luvu.
Suspended for four games to start the season, Herndon experienced hamstring discomfort last week. That led to the Jets keeping him off their active roster. Now that Herndon is back on their 53-man squad, he stands to soon reclaim his starting tight end post.
Although it’s not a lock Herndon makes his sophomore-season debut next week, due to the uncertainty surrounding his injury, Adam Gase hopes he will practice in the lead-up to the Jets’ rematch with the Patriots. Herndon’s roster exemption expired today. The Jets and Patriots have the New Jersey leg of their season series on tap for next Monday. The home team is a 9.5-point underdog.
Herndon caught 39 passes for 502 yards and four touchdowns as a rookie, doing so despite being a fourth-round pick. That yardage total was third-most in Jets history for a rookie tight end, trailing Pete Lammons (1966) and Dustin Keller (2008).
