Colts To Re-Sign G Jack Mewhort
The Colts are bringing back guard Jack Mewhort. It’s a one-year deal with a base value of $1.5MM and another $1.5MM in incentives, Mike Garafolo of NFL.com tweets. 
Mewhort’s season ended in October thanks to a knee injury, marking his second straight incomplete campaign. However, he did have three quality years as an NFL starter before that and the Colts did not want to let him get away. Mewhort doesn’t turn 27 until October, so he’s still young enough to bounce back and be a difference maker in 2018.
Mewhort will likely compete with Matt Slauson for the starting job at left guard. Beyond that, the Colts currently project to start left tackle Anthony Castonzo, center Ryan Kelly, right guard Joe Haeg, and right tackle Denzelle Good.
Falcons Meet With Pernell McPhee
The Falcons are meeting with outside linebacker Pernell McPhee, according to an announcement from the team. McPhee met with the Redskins on Sunday night but left without signing a deal. 
McPhee, 29, spent the past three seasons with the Bears. He tallied 14 sacks and 75 tackles for Chicago even as he was slowed by injuries. He probably has to be kept on a pitch count at this point, but he could thrive in a pass rush rotation.
The Falcons are on the look out for pass rushing help after Adrian Clayborn signed with the Patriots. The Falcons have yet to sign an outside linebacker or defensive end this month.
Saints WR Willie Snead Visiting Ravens
Saints restricted free agent wide receiver Willie Snead will visit the Ravens on Wednesday, a source tells Adam Schefter of ESPN.com (on Twitter). The Saints used the lowest tender on Snead, which grants them the right of first refusal on any offer sheet. However, the Ravens would not have to forfeit any draft compensation in the event of an unmatched offer sheet. 
Snead, 26 in October, wasn’t much of a factor in the Saints’ offense last year and missed the first three games of the season with a suspension. However, he averaged 70 catches for 940 yards and four touchdowns between 2015 and 2016.
The Ravens have upgraded their wide receiver stable by adding Michael Crabtree and John Brown this month. Neither Chris Moore nor Breshad Perriman did a whole lot last season, so the Ravens are looking to provide Joe Flacco with another weapon.
Chiefs, TE Benjamin Watson Discussing Deal
The Chiefs are working on a deal with veteran tight end Benjamin Watson, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter). Watson was said to be considering retirement as recently as last week, but he is apparently ready to come back for another season. 
Watson missed the entire 2016 season due to a torn Achilles, but bounced back in 2017 as he had 61 receptions for 522 yards and four touchdowns. The 37-year-old probably can’t be relied upon as a No.1 tight end at this stage of his career, but he’s make a fine backup to Travis Kelce and give defenses a lot to think about in a two tight end set.
In other Chiefs news, Kansas City has landed former Cardinals defensive lineman Xavier Williams.
Lions Searching For Defensive Tackles
The Lions are scouring the defensive tackle market. They’re expected to bring in free agents Johnathan Hankins and Alan Branch for visits and former Titans defensive tackle Sylvester Williams is also on their radar, Field Yates of ESPN.com tweets. Meanwhile, they’re working on a deal with former Pats defensive tackle Ricky Jean-Francois, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter). 
The Lions project to start A’Shawn Robinson and Akeem Spence on the interior defensive line, but they’re a little thin in support. Last year’s sixth-round pick Jeremiah Ledbetter and former UDFA Toby Johnson are the only other DTs on the roster as of this writing. It’s possible that the Lions will look to sign two or more of the aforementioned quartet of free agent defensive tackles to pad out the depth chart.
Given GM Bob Quinn‘s ties to the Patriots, Jean-Francois would be a logical signing for Detroit. Hankins, meanwhile, might be the most intriguing talent of the bunch given his success in the Giants’ 4-3 scheme from 2013-2016. Last year, he also performed well in the Colts’ 3-4 defense.
Raiders’ Marshawn Lynch Accepts Pay Cut
Marshawn Lynch is staying put, but on a revised contract. The Raiders running back has agreed to shave the base value of his deal by $500K, bringing him to $5.5MM for the coming year, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL.com (on Twitter). In exchange for that concession, he is now “practically guaranteed” $4.5MM of that sum, rather than nothing. He can earn up to $9.25MM in total with incentives. 
Lynch received his $1MM roster bonus on Sunday, indicating that he would be a part of the team in 2018. Previously, there was some question about that given the presence of new coach Jon Gruden and the recent signing of Doug Martin to a one-year deal. Had he not accepted the pay cut, it’s possible that Oakland would have moved on from him over the weekend.
Last year, lynch averaged 4.3 yards per carry and scored seven touchdowns. When compares to Martin’s 2.9 yards per carry in each of the last two seasons, one has to imagine that Lynch will have the inside track on being the team’s primary running back. DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard, holdovers from last year’s roster, also remain with the club.
Lions Sign TE Luke Willson
The Lions are signing former Seahawks tight end Luke Willson, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter). It’s a one-year deal worth $2.5MM with some upside potential in his deal. Willson will receive $1.5MM guaranteed, tweets Adam Caplan of SiriusXM.
Willson also visited the Panthers and Jaguars before agreeing to sign with Detroit. It’s not clear if he had viable offers from Carolina or Jacksonville, but in any case, the Lions will probably give him a better chance to showcase his talents. With the Panthers, Willson would have been playing behind Greg Olsen. And it’s possible that the Jaguars would have passed on Niles Paul had they signed Willson, but he probably still would have been playing alongside Austin Seferian-Jenkins.
The Lions had a clear need for a tight end after cutting Eric Ebron and watching Darren Fells sign with the Browns. The Lions missed out on Trey Burton, but they have added a promising (and cheaper) option in Willson..
Willson failed to top 200 yards receiving in either of the past two seasons, but he graded out as the league’s No. 26 run-blocking tight end among 69 qualifiers, per Pro Football Focus.
The Lions’ tight end depth chart is comprised of Willson, Michael Roberts, Hakeem Valles, and Brandon Barnes.
Bears Officially Match Packers’ Offer Sheet For Kyle Fuller
Kyle Fuller is staying put. The Bears announced that they have matched the Packers’ offer sheet for the cornerback. The contract is a four-year deal worth $56MM with $18MM in guaranteed money, as Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported.
“We could not be happier to have Kyle under contract for four more years,” Bears GM Ryan Pace said in a press release. “We feel he is an ascending player on our top 10 defense and we look forward to him having many more productive seasons here in Chicago.”
Instead of using the franchise tag, the Bears opted to use the less frequently used transition tag on Fuller this offseason. The transition tag for cornerbacks was worth just $12.9MM this year, versus the nearly $15MM franchise tag. On the flipside, that move only gave them the first right of refusal without granting them any draft compensation in the event of an unmatched offer sheet.
The Packers did not manage to steal Fuller away from their rivals, but they did jack up the price. Fuller reportedly turned down another offer sheet before signing one with Green Bay.
Fuller is now the sixth bears free agent to be retained by the Bears in free agency, joining outside linebacker Sam Acho, cornerback Prince Amukamara, offensive lineman Bradley Sowell, tight end Daniel Brown and punter Patrick O’Donnell. They have also tendered receivers Cameron Meredith and Joshua Bellamy and cornerback Bryce Callahan. Meredith may not be a done deal, however, as he is on a visit with the Colts.
Colts Host Cameron Meredith On Visit
The Colts hosted Bears restricted free agent Cameron Meredith for a visit, a league source tells Field Yates of ESPN.com (on Twitter). The Bears have the right to match any offer after using the low level tender on Meredith. If they do not match an offer sheet, they will not receive any draft compensation. 
Meredith, 26 in September, missed all of 2017 with a knee injury. Before that, he had a breakout season for Chicago. In 2016, Meredith hauled in 66 receptions for 888 yards and four touchdowns. If healthy, the former undrafted free agent could be a big contributor for the Colts, Bears, or another team in 2018.
The Colts signed Ryan Grant on Tuesday, but their WR group is a bit thin outside of him and T.Y. Hilton. Donte Moncrief left to sign a surprisingly lucrative free agent deal with the Jaguars earlier this month, leaving Indianapolis with a clear need to fill in free agency or the draft.
In other Colts news, the team has signed tight end Eric Ebron, re-signed cornerback Pierre Desir, and added offensive lineman Matt Slauson.
Xavier Williams To Sign With Chiefs
Xavier Williams is changing teams. The Cardinals have declined to match the offer sheet on the defensive lineman, clearing the way for him to sign with the Chiefs, according to Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star. 
Williams, 26, attended Grandview High School, which is roughly 30 minutes outside of Kansas City. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent, but he eventually became a regular sub for the Cardinals. Last season, he was in the rotation as he played on about 24% of the team’s snaps. The advanced metrics indicate that he could be capable of more as he graded out as Pro Football Focus’ No. 42 interior defender out of 122 qualified players.
The Chiefs have a pair of defensive tackles – Bennie Logan and Stefan Charles – in unrestricted free agency, so there’s a chance for Williams to compete for the top job at nose tackle. Jarvis Jenkins, who was re-signed earlier this month, figures to have the edge on that gig, however. Restricted free agent Rakeem Nunez-Roches also figures to factor into the equation after being tendered at the original-round level.
