Cowboys Place Rookie WR Cedrick Wilson On IR
Cowboys rookie Cedrick Wilson won’t make his NFL debut until at least 2019. The team placed the wideout on the injured reserve today, according to Calvin Watkins of The Athletic (via Twitter). The team has signed receiver Ricky Jeune to take the open roster spot (via Watkins).
The Cowboys selected Wilson with a sixth-round pick in this past year’s draft. The six-foot-three wideout had two productive seasons at Boise State, hauling in 139 receptions for 2,640 yards, and 18 touchdowns in 26 games. He also served as one of the team’s kick returners, averaging 23.9 yards on 31 returns. The rookie suffered an injury in a recent practice, and ESPN’s Todd Archer tweets that the receiver will eventually undergo surgery to repair a “subluxation issue” in his shoulder.
Jeune, also six-foot-three, was expected to be a late-round pick in this past year’s draft following a productive career with Georgia Tech. The wideout ultimately went undrafted before landing with the Rams after the draft. He was waived earlier this week, and he landed a workout with Dallas earlier today.
The 24-year-old will likely battle with Noah Brown, Lance Lenoir, and K.D. Cannon for one of the Cowboys’ final roster spots.
NFC East Notes: Redskins, Eagles, Cowboys
Expectations are high for the Redskins this year, but that doesn’t bother head coach Jay Gruden.
“I felt pressure the moment I signed the contract,” Gruden said (via John Keim of ESPN.com). “That’s the way it is here in D.C. Everyone expects a winner. I know Mr. Snyder does and Bruce [Allen], the whole city and the fans. I’ve been fortunate enough to get to this without winning a playoff game. I understand the expectations are high. We’ve put ourselves in position that it should be high, given the talent on this team.”
In Gruden’s opinion, this year’s Redskins roster is the club’s most talented since he was hired in 2014. Indeed, the Redskins do have more depth on the defensive line and at running back than they’ve had in years past, but the quarterback position remains a question mark for most. The Redskins believe that Alex Smith is an upgrade over Kirk Cousins, but plenty of people in the football world disagree with that notion.
Here’s more from the NFC East:
- The Eagles‘ toughest roster decisions will be at running back, Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com writes. Donnel Pumphrey, Matt Jones, Josh Adams, and Wendell Smallwood are likely competing for two roster spots and each player brings something unique to the table. Meanwhile, both Pumphrey and Jones have worked hard to improve their pass-catching ability. If they continue to make strides as receivers, they could both have an edge heading into September.
- The Cowboys worked out wide receiver Ricky Jeune on Tuesday, as Todd Archer of ESPN.com tweets. Jeune, who previously spent time with the Rams, could add to the club’s depth in the wake of Cedrick Wilson’s shoulder injury.
- Recently, former agent Joel Corry gave his thoughts on what an extension for Giants star Odell Beckham Jr. might look like.

Rams Sign Seven Undrafted Free Agents
The Rams have agreed to terms with seven undrafted free agents, the club announced today:
- LaQuvionte Gonzalez, WR (Southeastern)
- Ricky Jeune, WR (Georgia Tech)
- Jeremiah Kolone, G (San Jose State)
- Curtis Mickell, DB (Southern Mississippi)
- Steven Mitchell, WR (USC)
- McKay Murphy, DT (Weber State)
- Tegray Scales, LB (Indiana)
Scales began his collegiate career at Indiana by earning freshman All-American honors before being named second-team All-Big Ten during his senior year. Per Lance Zierlein of NFL.com, Scales is a “vocal leader” who offers “elite instincts,” but could struggle to add weight to what is already a small size. Scales put up a whopping 36.5 tackles for loss over the past two seasons, and also put up 13 sacks over that same period.
