Latest On Bears WR Kevin White

Bad news for the Bears. Wide receiver Kevin White will be out for an extended period of time with his ankle injury, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tweetsKevin White (vertical)

After missing his entire rookie season with a shin injury, losing White for multiple games would sting extra hard. This was supposed to be White’s breakout campaign and the Bears were eager to see what the No. 7 overall pick in the 2015 draft could do this year.

White, 24, caught 19 passes for 187 yards in four games this year. Things were ramping up for White in the last two weeks as he caught passes from Brian Hoyer. Between the games against the Cowboys and Lions, the second-year receiver saw a total of 23 targets.

The Bears already have six wide receivers on the depth chart, so they don’t necessarily have to add anyone to fill in for White. Alshon Jeffery leads that WR group with Eddie Royal, Deonte Thompson, Joshua Bellamy, and Cameron Meredith in support.

Redskins Cut DE Kendall Reyes

The Redskins have cut defensive lineman Kendall Reyes, a person familiar with the situation tells Mike Jones of The Washington Post (on Twitter). Reyes joined the Redskins as a free agent this offseason but the team was not happy with his play in the offseason or in the first month of the regular season. Reyes’ one-year, $2.5MM deal included $1MM fully guaranteed, so the Redskins will be on the hook for a good chunk of money."<strong

Reyes was dealing with a groin injury through the first month of the season and missed Week 2 against the Cowboys and Week 3 against the Giants as a result. He returned to action on Sunday against the Browns, but coaches weren’t thrilled with how he looked. With Reyes gone, the Redskins are left with Chris Baker, Ziggy Hood, Ricky Jean-Francois, Cullen Jenkins, Matt Ioannidis, and Anthony Lanier on the defensive line.

Reyes, a second-round pick in 2012, was a starter on San Diego’s defensive line from 2013-2015. The 27-year-old racked up 10.5 sacks during his first two years in the league, but his numbers have been more modest in recent seasons. In 2015, Reyes picked up a pair of sacks to go along with 32 tackles and his first career interception.

While the Chargers leaned on Reyes heavily during his four years with the club, Pro Football Focus wasn’t particularly fond of his performance last season. PFF ranked the Connecticut product 120th out of 123 qualified interior defenders, assigning him the third-worst grade as a run defender among those players.

Latest On Broncos QB Trevor Siemian

Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian has an AC joint sprain in his non-throwing shoulder, a source with knowledge of the situation tells Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. An MRI today should reveal more about the injury. Right now, the belief is that Siemian could miss a game or two as he recovers, but nothing is certain.Trevor Siemian (vertical)

In an interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio, head coach Gary Kubiak said that the team will play the situation by ear. “It’s going to be a day-to-day thing,” Kubiak said. “He’s very sore (Monday) and, obviously, it’s not going to affect his ability to throw the ball. But what happens, all the mechanics of your body and the movement, the torque, that’s what he’s going to have to work through.

So we’ll take it day-by-day and keep repping them all like we always do, but hopefully Trevor will be able to answer the bell this Sunday. He’s very capable of playing without practice time. He’s a very bright young man, so we’ll just take it day-to-day.”

Siemian, 23, has performed better than many expected in his first action as a starter, completing two-thirds of his passes for more than 800 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions while helping the Broncos to an undefeated start. If Denver determines Siemian can play against the Falcons on Sunday while protecting his shoulder, he will be the starter, tweets Troy Renck of Denver7. In other words, there won’t be a quarterback controversy involving Siemian and first-round pick Paxton Lynch.

Raiders Sign Perry Riley

The Raiders have signed linebacker Perry Riley, as Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle tweets. Riley was a cap casualty of the Redskins this offseason and was released in late August. Perry Riley (Vertical)

Riley was slated to make a little more than $5MM in the coming year and that was too rich for Washington’s blood. The Redskins dropped him, allowing them to save $4MM against the cap. There wasn’t a place for Riley this year as the Redskins saw Will Compton as their starting inside linebacker next to Mason Foster.

Riley may not be a bonafide starter at this stage of his career, but he can be an effective sub. In nine games last year, Riley totaled 43 tackles and two interceptions. He has not recorded a sack since 2014.

Lions Claim Armonty Bryant

The Lions announced that they have claimed Armonty Bryant off waivers from the Browns. Cleveland waived the defensive end earlier this week. Armonty Bryant

Bryant, 26, is slated to return from suspension this week. The Browns gave everyone in the football world a mild surprise by waiving the defensive lineman just before he was eligible to play. Coach Hue Jackson has spoken at length about prioritizing character and it’s possible that Bryant’s off-the-field indiscretions led to his release.

Bryant was arrested in December 2015 when he was found with Adderall but without a prescription. To make room for Bryant, Detroit placed fellow defensive lineman Wallace Gilberry on injured reserve.

Colts Release Antonio Cromartie

The Colts announced that they have cut cornerback Antonio Cromartie. The veteran hooked on with Indianapolis in late August but his run with them is already over here in early October. The team also waived inside linebacker Sio Moore.Antonio Cromartie

Indianapolis signed Cromartie in the wake of an injury suffered by Pro Bowler Vontae Davis. However, Cromartie was not able to recapture his old form in four games this season.

Against the Bears, Cromartie suffered an arm injury and it’s not immediately clear how long he may be sidelined with that. Still, Cromartie is immediately eligible for free agency since he is a vested veteran. Any team with interest in Cromartie will check into his arm as well as his troublesome hip injury that has dogged him for a while.

Cromartie, a four-time Pro Bowler, returned to New York last year with the Jets. Pro Football Focus ranked him just 86th out of 111 qualified cornerbacks in 2015.

Falcons Sign A.J. Hawk

The Falcons have signed linebacker A.J. Hawk, according to his agent Mike McCartney (via Twitter). Atlanta was reported to have interest in the veteran earlier today and it didn’t take long for a deal to materialize. A.J. Hawk (vertical)

At the age of 32 (33 in January), Hawk may not be the player that he once was. However, he brings a ton of experience to the table along with his hard-nosed playing style. In his third year in the NFL, Hawk helped the Packers capture the Super Bowl championship following the 2010 season. In total, he spent nine years with Green Bay but he was not retained after a so-so 2014 season. Last year, he hooked on with the Bengals and he started a career-low eleven games.

Now, Hawk has a new opportunity in Atlanta thanks to the rash of injuries they have suffered at linebacker. Hawk will presumably suit up for Atlanta on Sunday when they try to advance to 4-1 against the Broncos.

Jaguars Place Luke Joeckel On IR

The Jaguars announced that guard Luke Joeckel will be placed on injured reserve. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter), he is a candidate to return later this season, so his year might not be over. Luke Joeckel

Joeckel, 25 in November, was taken with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2013 draft. Unfortunately for Jacksonville, he hasn’t lived up to his pre-draft hype. In the spring, the Jags declined his fifth-year option for 2017. Although he has started 39 games for the Jags since joining the team in 2013, including 34 over the last two years and change, Joeckel has been inconsistent and hasn’t lived up to his draft slot.

The Jaguars, now down one offensive lineman, have a bye week coming up before they travel to Chicago on Sunday, Oct. 16.

Falcons Have Interest In A.J. Hawk

The Falcons have interest in veteran linebacker A.J. Hawk, sources tell Adam Caplan of ESPN.com (on Twitter). The team has four linebackers injured, so Hawk would make a lot of sense for Dan Quinn‘s squad. One month into the season, Atlanta finds itself without Sean Weatherspoon, Paul Worrilow, De’Vondre Campbell, and Deion Jones. Jones suffered a calf injury in Week 4 and his status for this upcoming week is currently unknown. A.J. Hawk (Vertical)

Hawk, who spent the first nine years of his NFL career in Green Bay, signed a two-year deal with the Bengals in 2015, but ultimately only played out half of that contract before being given his release. In his lone season in Cincinnati, Hawk was a part-time contributor at linebacker, picking up 24 tackles and a sack.

Hawk auditioned for Miami roughly three weeks ago, but that workout did not lead to a deal.

Cardinals Place RB Chris Johnson On IR

The Cardinals are placing running back Chris Johnson on IR with a groin injury, according to a team announcement. Safety Tyvon Branch is also headed to the IR with the same injury. Chris Johnson

In theory, both players could be eligible to return on December 4th for the Cards’ home contest against the Redskins. However, that will depend on the condition of each player and the team will also have to prioritize them against other candidates to return from IR. Each team can have a player return to action after eight weeks, but they can do only do so with one player.

Johnson had 95 yards and one touchdown off of 28 carries this season as he played the backup role behind David Johnson. Andre Ellington, who was once supposed to be the main guy in Arizona, now moves into the No. 2 RB role.

To replace Johnson on the roster, the team officially re-signed running back Kerwynn Williams. Also, with Carson Palmer‘s status in the air (concussion), the team also promoted quarterback Zac Dysert from the practice squad. Versatile wide receiver/defensive back Brittan Golden was promoted from the practice squad to the active roster. In other moves, punter Drew Butler (calf) was waived with an injury settlement and safety Christian Bryant was added to the practice squad. The team still has one opening on the taxi squad.
