Dolphins Activate RB De’Von Achane
The Dolphins have officially activated their electric rookie running back, De’Von Achane from injured reserve in advance of tomorrow’s matchup with the Raiders. The team announced the move along with a number of other Saturday transactions in preparation for Week 11. 
The rookie back was placed on IR in Week 6, a move which guaranteed at least a month-long absence. Achane was able to return to practice earlier this week in order to be activated as soon as possible. Head coach Mike McDaniel even hinted that Achane could have continued playing through the injury with a knee brace, but the team chose to exercise caution with the health of their 22-year-old phenom.
Achane has now missed the four games required for an IR stint and will hope to pick up where he left off. Before landing on IR, Achane displayed an outstanding three-game stretch in which he accounted for 518 scrimmage yards and seven touchdowns. He returns to a position group that has been anchored by Raheem Mostert in his absence, with Jeff Wilson and Salvon Ahmed serving as change of pace backs.
Miami had waived wide receiver Robbie Chosen in anticipation of Achane’s activation, but the team will bring him back on a practice squad contract and elevate him on Sunday as a standard gameday elevation. In order to make room for the veteran receiver, the Dolphins released running back Jake Funk from their practice squad. Offensive guard Chasen Hines will join Chosen as a practice squad elevation for tomorrow.
Steelers To Activate TE Pat Freiermuth, Place S Keanu Neal On IR
NOVEMBER 18, 2:58pm: The Steelers officially announced Freiermuth’s activation this afternoon, along with a number of other Saturday transactions. Joining Freiermuth on the active roster will be practice squad linebacker Mykal Walker, whom the team was hoping to involve more with Kwon Alexander on injured reserve.
In order to make room on the roster, Pittsburgh has placed starting safety Keanu Neal on injured reserve. Neal joined his fourth team in as many years this offseason and has made the most of it, becoming a starter for the Steelers. He hasn’t had the strongest season, grading out as the league’s 62nd-best safety, according to Pro Football Focus (subscription required). Neal’s absence will likely mean a bigger role for fellow safety Damontae Kazee, who was teammates with Neal from 2017-2021 during stints in Atlanta and Dallas.
Lastly, the Steelers announced their standard gameday practice squad elevations for tomorrow’s game in Cleveland. The team will promote LB Tariq Carpenter and safety Trenton Thompson for the matchup. Thompson’s callup fills out the depth chart a bit with Neal gone. Carpenter will team up with Walker to provide some reinforcements at linebacker with Alexander hurt.
NOVEMBER 18, 8:45am: The quick ramp-up period will be sufficient for the Steelers, who will activate Freiermuth at the earliest opportunity. Freiermuth will end up spending the minimum four games on IR, with NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero indicating he will move back onto Pittsburgh’s active roster before this afternoon’s deadline. While the former second-round pick has not played since Week 4, a hamstring aggravation is responsible for the extended absence. This transaction will leave the Steelers with four IR activations remaining.
NOVEMBER 15: Pat Freiermuth‘s third NFL season has not gone as hoped, but the Steelers are moving closer to having their tight end ready for the stretch run. The team designated the young pass catcher for return Wednesday.
This will start Feiermuth’s 21-day activation clock. The Steelers placed Freiermuth on IR due to a hamstring injury last month. While Freiermuth did not initially land on IR due to the injury, an aggravation led to the Steelers moving him off their 53-man roster.
The Steelers have moved to 6-3 despite persistent struggles on offense, but the team has missed Freiermuth and Diontae Johnson for extended chunks of the season. Johnson returned from his hamstring injury weeks ago, and it appears another activation will soon commence after a hamstring malady. This will be good news for Kenny Pickett, who targeted the 2021 second-round pick frequently in his first season as Pittsburgh’s starter.
Last year, Freiermuth finished with 63 receptions for 732 yards and two touchdowns. While his yards-per-reception and touchdown numbers were down compared to his rookie year, the Penn State product’s yardage total dwarfed his rookie-year number (497). Pickett and Mitch Trubisky targeted the talented tight end regularly, and the Steelers came into this season expecting another steady showing from the 6-foot-5 weapon.
Freiermuth has not played since Week 4, and he struggled to find his footing in the latest Matt Canada-run Pittsburgh offense. Freiermuth finished three games with fewer than 10 receiving yards, and although Week 4 involved an early exit, Weeks 1 and 2 brought sluggish outings. Freiermuth has eight receptions for 53 yards and two TDs this season. In his absence, the Steelers have seen Connor Heyward work as their top receiving tight end. The second-year option has 17 catches for 137 yards. Third-round rookie Darnell Washington has not factored in prominently, exiting Week 10 with three grabs for 23 yards.
Justin Fields To Play In Week 11; Bears To Activate RB Khalil Herbert From IR
NOVEMBER 18: The Bears made it official today, activating Herbert for the team’s Week 11 matchup in Detroit. It remains to be seen what Herbert’s role will be after he seemed to be firmly establishing himself as the lead back in the two games before his absence. Foreman has had a few decent performances since then while rookie Roschon Johnson has remained a change of pace back and Travis Homer has remained a special teamer.
The activation is the team’s eighth off of injured reserve this year, which is the limit for a season. If any other players are placed on IR, they will be forced to remain there for the rest of the year.
In addition to Herbert’s activation, the Bears announced their standard gameday practice squad elevations for tomorrow. They have selected linebacker Micah Baskerville and outside linebacker DeMarquis Gates to dress up against the Lions.
NOVEMBER 17: The Bears’ offense will see two significant reinforcements in time for Week 11. As expected, quarterback Justin Fields will suit up on Sunday as he was taken off the injury report. Running back Khalil Herbert, meanwhile, will be activated off IR, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network notes. 
Fields has missed the past four games due to a thumb injury, but it was learned earlier this week that Chicago intended to bring the former first-rounder back into the fold. With that now confirmed, Fields can embark on a late-season stretch in which plenty of his post-2023 future will be determined. Recent indications have suggested Fields will need to convince the Bears’ brass – which was not in place when he was drafted – of his worth to avoid having the team draft a new signal-caller in April.
2023 has seen the 24-year-old continue to put up inconsistent numbers, and the thumb injury has added to his missed time. Fields is under contract through at least 2024, though the Bears could add one year to his rookie pact by exercising his fifth-year option this spring. Doing so would represent a sign of confidence in his progression, but the team is slated to have two high first-rounders in April’s draft. That would provide an opportunity to acquire a Fields successor and move on from the Ohio State alum. His play down the stretch will thus be worth watching closely.
Herbert was one of three players the Bears designated for return last week. The others – wideout Equanimeous St. Brown and cornerback Josh Blackwell – were activated, but Herbert was not. The latter will notably represent the eighth and final IR activation used by Chicago this season. While their aggressiveness with using injured reserve as a means of stashing injured players has carried risk, Herbert’s return will be welcomed on the Bears’ offense.
The unit has struggled in a number of categories, although running production has not been one of them. The Bears rank fifth in the NFL with an average of 135 yards per game on the ground, and Herbert sits second on the team with 272 on the year. Free agent addition D’Onta Foreman has taken the lead in that department while logging a heavy workload in Herbert’s absence. It will be interesting to see how the RB snaps are divided with the team’s backfield returning to health.
The 3-7 Bears will aim to ride the return of Fields and Herbert to an uptick in offensive efficiency late in the year. With plenty at stake for the former (along with several members of the coaching staff and/or front office, in the view of many), Chicago will be a team to monitor in the closing weeks of the campaign.
Jaguars Place WR Jamal Agnew On IR, Activate WR Parker Washington
The Jaguars will be without their return man for an extended stretch. A returner and backup wide receiver, Jamal Agnew is moving to IR. This will sideline the veteran weapon for at least four games.
To replace Agnew on their active roster, the Jaguars activated wide receiver Parker Washington on Saturday. A sixth-round rookie out of Penn State, the 21-year-old backup has played in one game this season. Washington worked as a punt returner in that lone outing; the Jags drafted the 5-foot-10 wideout 185th overall this year.
Rib and shoulder injuries will send Agnew to IR; he will not be eligible to return until Week 15. Having made the rare conversion from defensive back to wide receiver after entering the NFL, Agnew has been with the Jaguars since 2021. The former Lions cornerback has operated as the Jags’ return man since signing with the team in 2021. While Agnew landed on IR to cut short his 2021 season, he has been a key part of Jacksonville’s special teams since arriving. An All-Pro in Detroit back in his 2017 rookie year, the former fifth-round pick earned a Pro Bowl nod last season.
Agnew, 28, has worked as both the Jags’ kick returner and their punt-return specialist. While all four of Agnew’s punt-return scores came during his four-year run in Detroit, he added a kick-return TD with Jacksonville in 2021. After scoring three receiving TDs last year, Agnew has nine receptions for 90 yards this year. Although an Agnew fumble wounded the Jaguars’ comeback effort in last year’s divisional round, he has been a key performer for the AFC South team.
This is the final season of Agnew’s three-year, $14.25MM deal. Barring this being a season-ending injury, the seventh-year veteran should be expected to re-emerge as a factor for the division-leading team down the stretch. Washington’s activation leaves the Jags with five such transactions remaining.

The Seahawks signed Peters to their practice squad early on in the year after seeing starting right tackle Abraham Lucas head to injured reserve. The team opted to start Stone Forsythe in Lucas’ place, but eventually, Forsythe started dealing with some issues of his own, missing parts of the Seahawks’ last three games. Peters had been a standard gameday elevation for the last three weeks. In order for him to be called into game action any more this year, a move to the active roster was necessary. The post by Peters’ representation claims that he’ll be on the active roster for the remainder of the season, but there’s still a chance that after this week, Seattle could waive Peters and re-signed him to a new practice squad deal that would allow him to be called up three more times. With all players hitting the waiver wire after the trade deadline, though, they would have to count on no other teams making a claim on him for him to return.
Munyer announced his retirement in an Instagram post this evening. Having most recently played for the Titans, the former undrafted free agent out of Colorado started one game in his career (for the Cardinals) while making an appearance in 21 total contests over his time in Tennesse, Arizona, and Kansas City. A reason for his departure from the league was not proffered, as he solely stated in the caption of the photo that he is “on to the next chapter.” From all of us here at Pro Football Rumors, good luck to Munyer on all his future endeavors.

Kramer returns to Chicago after spending a little over a week in Arizona. The Cardinals had claimed Kramer after he was waived in order to make room for left tackle Braxton Jones on the Bears’ active roster. Arizona waived Kramer on Wednesday, and after clearing waivers, Kramer has found his way back to Chicago.
Farniok should find his way onto someone’s roster. The third-year interior lineman started two games for the Cowboys last year and appeared in 19 games over his first two seasons.
Dolphins Waive WR Robbie Chosen
NOVEMBER 17: Chosen is indeed a candidate to return to the Dolphins via a practice squad spot, NFL.com’s Cameron Wolfe tweets. A team claiming the veteran wide receiver by this afternoon’s deadline would nix that plan, but the Dolphins want to retain Chosen as insurance. Both Claypool and Berrios are on Miami’s injury report, pointing to a Chosen path back to the active roster for Week 11.
NOVEMBER 16: The Dolphins have already activated River Cracraft off injured reserve, adding a seventh wide receiver to their active roster. They are also moving toward having De’Von Achane back on the 53. They turned toward their skill-position corps to create an additional spot.
The team waived Robbie Chosen on Thursday. Known lately for name changes, Chosen is in his eighth NFL season. This is familiar territory for Chosen. The Cardinals, after they acquired Chosen before the 2022 trade deadline, cut bait in March. The Dolphins signed him to a one-year, $1.32MM deal this offseason.
Chosen, 30, has played in four Dolphins games as a backup; he caught one pass with the team. This move could also result in Anderson being bumped back down to Miami’s practice squad. The veteran pass catcher served as a gameday elevation at multiple points this season. Chosen would need to clear waivers first, however. Although Chosen is a vested veteran, the trade deadline having passed makes every cut player subject to waivers.
Not too far removed from signing a Panthers extension worth $29.5MM over two years, the former Robby Anderson, Robbie Anderson and Chosen Anderson has drifted away from starter status over the past two seasons. A midgame sideline dustup led the Panthers to send Chosen to the Cardinals for late-round compensation last year. This came after the team fired Matt Rhule, who had coached Chosen at Temple. Chosen, who topped 1,000 receiving yards with the Panthers in 2020, has just 21 receptions over the past two seasons.
Even if this is it for Chosen in Miami, the Dolphins have extensive experience supplementing Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. In addition to Cracraft, Braxton Berrios, Cedrick Wilson and Chase Claypool reside as tertiary targets. The team acquired Claypool last month in a late-round pick swap with the Bears. Miami designated Achane for return this week, and Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz notes the rookie speedster is expected to be activated for Week 11.
Raiders To Waive FB Jakob Johnson
Firing both Josh McDaniels and OC Mick Lombardi, the Raiders made sweeping changes to their offensive staff midway through the season. Those moves will lead to one of their offensive starters hitting the waiver wire.
One of the many ex-Patriots on the Raiders’ roster, Jakob Johnson no longer fits into the team’s plan, per ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter, who indicates the team is cutting the veteran fullback. Johnson confirmed the move himself. Johnson signed with Las Vegas during McDaniels’ first offseason in town and has operated as a starter at points for this year’s squad.
Johnson, 28, has signed two one-year contracts with the Raiders. He inked a deal worth $1.63MM in March. A three-game starter, Johnson has served as a package player this season. That is standard procedure for most modern fullbacks; the Raiders had used the fifth-year veteran on 115 offensive plays.
Although interim HC Antonio Pierce has made reestablishing Josh Jacobs a priority over the past two games, the Raiders will continue their effort to do so without a fullback. Some teams do not carry a player at this long-declining position, but McDaniels had worked with Johnson throughout his career. The Patriots employed Johnson from 2019-21, featuring him on at least 25% of their offensive plays from 2020-21. The Tennessee alum arrived in New England as a 2019 UDFA.
Because the trade deadline has passed, Johnson’s vested-veteran status will not keep him off waivers. Any of the 31 teams can take on his contract, which contains less than $1MM in remaining salary. Johnson initially became available in 2022, when the Patriots did not tender him as a restricted free agent.

The Cowboys are Davis’ third team this year. Going to camp with the Patriots, Davis did not make the team. The veteran nose tackle had seen action with New England over the past three seasons. Davis played 216 defensive snaps last season.

The Bengals are without Tee Higgins for a second straight game. They added two wideouts to their active roster and are using their first injury activation this season, bringing Jones back after an IR stay. Cincinnati placed Jones on IR in late September due to a thumb injury. A fourth-round rookie who played at three Division I-FBS schools (Buffalo, Iowa, Purdue), Jones worked as the Bengals’ punt returner early this season. The Day 3 rookie made an early impact, already notching a return touchdown in his three-game work sample.
Chicago added Evans in October, doing so just after Khalil Herbert sustained an injury that required an IR stint. With Roschon Johnson also missing two games due to a concussion, Evans saw increased work behind D’Onta Foreman in the Bears’ depleted backfield. With Johnson back, Evans has seen just six offensive snaps in each of the past two games. This cut looks to lay the groundwork for the Bears activating Herbert soon. On IR due to a high ankle sprain, Herbert would represent the Bears’ final injury activation this season. They would be the first team this year to use all eight.
A productive player in Jacksonville, Jack spent last season in Pittsburgh before being released in March. The Eagles took a flier on the former second-round pick during training camp, signing both he and Zach Cunningham. While Cunningham has managed to move from a months-long free agency stay to a Philadelphia starter, Jack opted to retire in August. Were the UCLA alum to continue his career, the Eagles no longer hold his rights.
In a strange bookkeeping transaction, the Eagles also removed their 1994 first-round pick from the reserve/suspended list. Philly used Williams as a 16-game starter in 1994, when he protected QBs Randall Cunningham and Rodney Peete in Rich Kotite‘s final season as HC. A 1995 drug suspension led to Williams’ career ending.
