Latest On Ryan Tannehill
The Dolphins will be without Ryan Tannehill for a while. Not only will he miss this Sunday’s game against the Lions, but he’s also unlikely to suit up next Thursday night against the Texans, ESPN.com’s Cameron Wolfe (on Twitter) hears.

The good news here is that the Dolphins still believe that Tannehill will be able to play again. The team is not currently exploring surgical options for his injured shoulder (Twitter link via Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald) as they believe he’ll be able to play once the swelling and irritation improves.
F0r however long Tannehill is out, they’ll be relying on backup Brock Osweiler to carry the torch. If the one-time coveted free agent continues to play like he did against the Bears in last weekend’s OT win, the Dolphins will get by just fine. If Osweiler implodes against Detroit and Houston and Tannehill’s recovery drags, it’s possible that the Fins will explore the trade market for QB options.
In the short term, the Dolphins will probably stand pat at quarterback. They currently have two healthy QBs on the roster in Osweiler and David Fales.
Cardinals Won’t Trade Patrick Peterson
A trade of star cornerback Patrick Peterson is “not happening,” Cardinals president Michael Bidwill tells Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter). Many expect the Cardinals to engage as sellers before the Oct. 30 trade deadline, but Peterson is apparently off limits.

“Not true,” Bidwill said. “I’ve seen the speculation. But it’s not happening. Not happening.”
Other clubs, unsure of the Cardinals’ intentions or future plans, have tried to pry P2 away from Arizona. At least one other team inquired about his availability, Rapoport hears, but were met a flat-out no.
Peterson’s place in Arizona appears to be safe, but the same cannot be said for other Cardinals players or coaches. The Cardinals are 1-5 heading into Thursday night’s game against the Broncos, and changes are certain to be made if they come up short.
A fun fact to keep in mind: the 1970 Bengals are the only team in the NFL’s Super Bowl era to ever made the playoffs after starting the year 1-6.
Saints To Re-Sign Michael Ola
The Saints re-signed veteran offensive lineman Michael Ola, according to a league source who spoke with Josh Katzenstein of the The Times-Picayune. The deal may be an indication the Saints will be without a lineman or two this week.
Left tackle Terron Armstead (knee) and left guard Andrus Peat (head) were both limited in practice on Wednesday, so the status of one or both players may be in doubt for Sunday’s late slate tilt against the Ravens. The Saints, ideally, do not want to shuffle a front five that has been among the league’s best this year.
The 4-1 Saints lead the league in scoring with 36 points per game and the O-Line has allowed quarterback Drew Brees to get sacked just eight times so far. Meanwhile, Alvin Kamara and the recently activated Mark Ingram have been the beneficiaries of wide running lanes, resulting in a team average of 4.1 yards per carry.
Ola, 30, was with the Saints this offseason and was a backup with the team in Week 1. This time, he’s hoping to take off his coat and stay a while.
Junior Galette Turned Down Raiders, Redskins?
Junior Galette is still on the free agent market, but he hasn’t gone without opportunities to sign this year. The veteran says that he rejected offers from the Raiders and Redskins in the offseason (Twitter link).
Galette, for his part, seems to regret passing on those chances. The edge rusher pointed out that he was “advised to turn down” the Redskins and Raiders for better deals that never came.
Galette, 30, was an absolute terror during his best seasons with the Saints. Off-field issues and injuries took him out of the game in 2015 and 2016, but he appeared in all 16 games for Washington last year. Galette finished out with three sacks, 20 total tackles, a forced fumble, and and 15 QB hits. With a total of 25 pressures, he graded out as the league’s No. 30 edge defender among 106 qualifiers, according to Pro Football Focus. From a football perspective, his ongoing unemployment is perplexing, to say the least.
In addition to speaking with the Raiders and Redskins, Galette also flirted with the Rams and Seahawks in the offseason. This week, he auditioned for the Colts, but it’s not clear whether they currently have interest in signing him.
Giants Sign Corey Coleman To P-Squad
The Giants signed wide receiver Corey Coleman to the practice squad, a source tells Dan Duggan of The Athletic (on Twitter). Coleman worked out for the Giants on Wednesday and agreed to join the reserve team on Thursday morning.
Coleman will offer the Giants some extra insurance after the club lost Cody Latimer to injury. Bennie Fowler was signed to the main roster this week to fill in for his fellow ex-Bronco, but Coleman will be kept nearby if the Giants want to make any more tweaks to the receiver group.
The deal marks Coleman’s fourth team of 2018. The former first-round pick couldn’t catch on with the Bills after being shipped over by the Browns, and he didn’t make much of an impression on the Patriots, but he hopes to have an easier path to the field with the G-Men.
Coleman, the No. 15 overall pick in the 2016 draft, has yet to outperform his modest rookie season. In that year, he had 33 receptions for 413 yards and three touchdowns. In 2017, he had just 23 catches for 305 yards with 2 TDs, and he’s still waiting to make his 2018 debut.
Poll: Should The Browns Try To Trade Tyrod Taylor?
On Thursday, Browns head coach Hue Jackson told reporters there have been no discussions about trading quarterback Tyrod Taylor before the Oct. 30 deadline. When pressed further, Jackson shrugged off the notion that Taylor would not finish the year in Cleveland.
“I do [expect him to be with the Browns all season], until someone tells me something differently,” Jackson said. “He is our backup quarterback.”
For his part, Taylor admits that he’s frustrated with his No. 2 QB role, but he refuses to complain to management or demand a trade. It’s not hard to read between the lines and see that Taylor would prefer to be a starter elsewhere rather than Baker Mayfield‘s clipboard holder in Cleveland.
Taylor has just one year to go on his deal, which would make him a logical rental for another club. The Browns would also save a bundle by moving him. Taylor has already collected on his $6MM roster bonus, but a trade would allow them to escape the prorated portion of his $10MM base salary.
The trouble is, there may not be a robust market for Taylor’s services. The Dolphins will be without Ryan Tannehill for an unknown period of time, but they have every reason to stick with Brock Osweiler after last week’s OT victory over the Bears. The Bills, in theory, could use a QB while Josh Allen heals up from a UCL injury, but it’s hard to picture that reunion going down.
If the rest of the league would utilize Taylor as a strong backup quarterback rather than a starter, it’s hard to see the Browns getting much of a return. The Jets got a third-round pick for Teddy Bridgewater in August, but Bridgewater had a first-round pedigree and a much cheaper contract. Moving Taylor might not yield much in the way of draft compensation, and it would mean losing out on one of the more talented backups in the NFL.

Giants Work Out Corey Coleman
Former Browns first-round pick Corey Coleman worked out for the Giants on Wednesday, Field Yates of ESPN.com tweets. Both New York teams have looked at the wide receiver this week, so his next stop could very well be in New Jersey.
The Giants were forced to place No. 3 wide receiver Cody Latimer on IR this week, so they could use some reinforcements for the passing game. Bennie Fowler was brought aboard to take his place, but someone like Coleman may offer greater upside.
Granted, Coleman hasn’t done a whole lot since since being selected with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2016 draft. The Browns traded him for a 2020 seventh-round pick in August, but cut him in the first weekend of September. After that, the Patriots added him, dropped him, and signed him to the practice squad before dropping him from the reserve unit on Sept. 29.
Coleman’s rookie season was his best to date, a campaign in which he caught 33 passes for 413 yards and three touchdowns. Last year, he had just 23 catches for 305 yards and 2 TDs.

Browns Haven’t Discussed Tyrod Taylor Trade
Tyrod Taylor profiles as a logical trade candidate, but Browns head coach Hue Jackson says the team has not discussed moving the quarterback between now and the Oct. 30 deadline (Twitter link via Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon-Journal). Taylor, meanwhile, says that he has not thought about requesting a trade.
“It’s frustrating, but it’s a part of the game at the same time,” said Taylor, who lost his starting job to Baker Mayfield after an injury sidelined him against the Jets last month. “Eight years in, you understand some things happen that you can’t control…Not wanting to complain, just got to continue to keep being myself day in and day out. Continue to be a leader and help the team in any way.”
Taylor’s desire to leave Cleveland may change if another team needs a healthy starting QB in the coming days. Meanwhile, the Browns probably aren’t motivated to move Taylor at this time. It still makes sense to have Taylor as a backstop to Mayfield and teams probably aren’t clamoring for the ex-Bills QB after he had a rough two-and-a-half weeks as the Browns’ starter.
If the Browns opt to move Taylor, they can promote Drew Stanton to the No. 2 QB role. They do not presently have a QB on the practice squad, so they would have to go out-of-house if they wanted a third signal caller in that instance.
