2026 NFL Fifth-Year Option Tracker
NFL teams have until May 1 to officially pick up fifth-year options on 2022 first-rounders. The 2020 CBA revamped the option structure and made them fully guaranteed, rather than guaranteed for injury only. Meanwhile, fifth-year option salaries are now determined by a blend of performance- and usage-based benchmarks:
- Two-time Pro Bowlers (excluding alternates) will earn the same as their position’s franchise tag
- One-time Pro Bowlers will earn the equivalent of the transition tag
- Players who achieve any of the following will receive the average of the third-20th-highest salaries at their position:
- At least a 75% snap rate in two of their first three seasons
- A 75% snap average across all three seasons
- At least 50% in each of first three seasons
- Players who do not hit any of those benchmarks will receive the average of the third-25th top salaries at their position

Jaguars To Decline LB Devin Lloyd’s Fifth-Year Option
The Jaguars will continue the string of teams declining fifth-year options on off-ball linebackers. As the NFL’s option formula still groups all linebackers together, Devin Lloyd will become the latest ILB to see his not exercised.
Lloyd is now in a contract year, ESPN.com’s Jeremy Fowler confirms. He would have been due a fully guaranteed $14.75MM had the Jaguars’ new regime signed off on his 2026 option. Lloyd is extension-eligible, so he could factor into the Jags’ long-term plans. It would also make sense if the team’s James Gladstone-Liam Coen duo wanted to see how he fit into a new defensive scheme.

No team has exercised a fifth-year option for an off-ball LB since the Buccaneers picked up Devin White‘s in 2022. That decision did not turn out well, as the All-Pro’s value cratered soon after. Over the past three offseasons, Patrick Queen, Kenneth Murray, Isaiah Simmons, Jordyn Brooks and Jamin Davis had seen their options declined. The Cardinals passed on Zaven Collins‘, despite moving him to the edge, and it should be expected the Packers will decline Quay Walker‘s ($14.75MM) by Thursday’s deadline.
This wrinkle reminds of the guard market, as the price of franchise-tagging a player at that position is complicated due to all O-linemen being grouped together under this formula as well. Guards and ILBs have easier paths to free agency as a result, and Lloyd could end up as a key piece on next year’s market because of the Jags’ Wednesday decision.
The Jags did pick up Travon Walker‘s fifth-year option, but the former No. 1 overall pick serves as an edge player. Lloyd has been a locked-in starter since his rookie year, but Trent Baalke‘s second pick since the Urban Meyer firing moved him to the top of the franchise’s personnel pyramid could use a quality contract year to display his value to both the Jags and other teams. Jacksonville traded up from No. 33 (via Tampa Bay) to acquire Lloyd at No. 27 overall. He has been a consistent producer despite the Jaguars continuing to change defensive coordinators.
Lloyd, 26, has missed just three career games. He has made at least 113 tackles in each of his three seasons, working as a regular under Mike Caldwell and Ryan Nielsen. After making just two tackles for loss during his first two seasons combined, Lloyd — a former 27 overall pick out of Utah — made seven last season. The Jags hired Anthony Campanile to run their defense this year. Lloyd will undoubtedly be a key piece. Pro Football Focus has graded Lloyd as a top-15 linebacker in each of the past two seasons.
That status becomes more impressive when factoring in the organizational turnover in that span. Doug Pederson fired Caldwell after the 2023 season, and Nielsen again became a one-and-done DC (as he had in Atlanta) thanks to a head coach being fired a year later. Lloyd will attempt to prove himself valuable in Campanile’s defense this season.

A fifth-round pick out of BYU, Hall was part of a three-quarterback solutions to a season-ending Kirk Cousins injury in 2023. Alongside Nick Mullens and Joshua Dobbs, Hall started two of three game appearances for Minnesota as a rookie, only attempting 20 passes in that time. After trading for Sam Howell to back up J.J. McCarthy, in addition to retaining Brett Rypien and signing undrafted Golden Gophers quarterback Max Brosmer, Hall became the odd man out.
Ethan Waugh Out As Jaguars’ Assistant GM
Despite being tied to the Trent Baalke regime, Ethan Waugh took part in the Jaguars’ round of interviews to replace him. But Baalke’s right-hand man is out in Jacksonville as well.
The Jags are moving on from Waugh as assistant GM, InsidetheLeague.com’s Neil Stratton reports. Hiring Waugh just after the 2022 draft, the Jags also named him interim GM following Baalke’s January firing. With James Gladstone now in place as GM, it certainly makes sense a key new hire will take place as restructuring continues under the ex-Rams exec.
Teams often wait until after the draft to make these moves, in order to not disrupt continuity within the front office after extensive scouting work has been completed. Waugh ended up working through the draft, a memorable one for the Jaguars, who traded a 2026 first-rounder as part of a package that secured them (via the Browns) Travis Hunter‘s draft rights.
Gladstone is credited with putting those trade talks in motion, doing so weeks ahead of the draft. Waugh was still with the team at this point. Waugh arrived days after the 2022 draft and had been playing out the string this year. The veteran exec had worked in San Francisco for an extended period, overlapping with Baalke there. It will be expected he lands elsewhere soon, even if Baalke has not.
Despite Baalke’s 49ers ouster after the 2016 season, John Lynch retained Waugh and eventually elevated him to VP of player personnel in 2021. This came months after the Jaguars named Baalke GM, though he held that title while Urban Meyer ran football ops. Post-Meyer, the Jags elevated Baalke to the top of their personnel period. They then added Waugh from the 49ers.
The Baalke-Waugh pairing completed an eventful offseason in 2024, giving out the three most lucrative contract extensions — for Trevor Lawrence, Josh Hines-Allen and Tyson Campbell — in team history. This came after the team gave Gladstone and Co. an ascending talent by drafting Brian Thomas Jr. in Round 1. Last year’s Jags season skidded off track early, however, as a host of close losses turned into a 4-13 record — during a season that brought Lawrence’s first extended absence. Hunter will be brought in to team with Thomas.

Striggow is joining the Jaguars for a hefty guarantee. The AFC South team is giving the Big Ten product $254K guaranteed, KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson tweets. That is certainly on the higher end for UDFAs, but Striggow was productive as a pass rusher over the past two seasons for the Golden Gophers. He combined to reach 11 sacks in that span, accumulating 13 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles during his final two seasons in Minneapolis as well.
Wormley will receive a $110K guarantee to sign, Wilson adds. This covers a $100K base salary guarantee and a $10K signing bonus. A Nittany Lion going almost as far back as the Saquon Barkley days, Wormley started three seasons as the team’s right guard. Playing six seasons at Penn State, Wormley made 42 starts. This included 16 made during the Nittany Lions’ 2024 season, which ended in the CFP semifinals. The Jags also drafted a guard, West Virginia’s Wyatt Millum, in Round 3.
Dane Brugler’s The Athletic big board placed Henigan 14th among QBs, while ESPN’s Scouts Inc. slotted him 15th at the position. Henigan started four years for Memphis; although the American Athletic Conference has not been around too long, the 6-foot-3 QB leaves as the league’s all-time passing leader (14,266). This worked out to between 3,300 and 3,900 passing yards each season, and Henigan threw 32 TD passes as a junior in 2023. He finished with a 104-31 TD:INT ratio. He will join a QB depth chart housing Trevor Lawrence, Nick Mullens and John Wolford.
Scouts Inc. ranked Downs as the top prospect in this Jags UDFA group, slotting him 286th in the 2025 class. A two-time second-team All-Big 12 selection, Downs produced 30 TFLs from 2022-24. He added 12 sacks in that time. He comes to Jacksonville having not used his fifth year of college eligibility, which is now atypical for NFL UDFAs in the post-COVID era.
Jaguars To Sign DE Emmanuel Ogbah
The Jaguars are signing former Dolphins defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah to a one-year deal with a maximum value of $5MM, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Ogbah is a nine-year veteran with 87 starts and 47.5 sacks in his career. He spent the last five seasons in Miami with 16 starts and 5.0 sacks in 2024, as well as nine tackles for loss that tied a career-high.
The Jaguars were in need of an experienced third edge defender, and Ogbah will provide depth behind Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker. Jacksonville only spent a sixth-round pick on the position over the weekend, adding Auburn’s Jalen McLeod. Like new teammate Yasir Abdullah, McLeod is an undersized outside linebacker whose football smarts and versatility will be his best path to playing time.
Jacksonville will be Ogbah’s fourth home in the NFL after beginning his up-and-down career in Cleveland as a second-round pick in 2016. He flashed with 5.5 sacks as a rookie, but a fractured foot sidelined him after 10 games in 2017 and his production decreased the year after.
With Ogbah entering the last year of his rookie contract, the Browns traded him to the Chiefs for safety Eric Murray during the 2019 offseason. Ogbah once again suffered a season-ending injury after 10 games – this time a torn pectoral – but he recorded 5.5 sacks before his injury and earned a Super Bowl ring at the end of the season.
Ogbah signed a two-year, $15MM contract with the Dolphins in free agency and exploded for 9.0 sacks in back-to-back years in Miami. That earned him a four-year, $65MM extension, though he has only started 20 games with 11.5 sacks on that contract, due in part to a torn triceps in 2022.
The Jaguars will be hoping they’re getting the healthy, productive version of Ogbah that emerged in his first two years in Miami. Though his contract is worth up to $5MM, the base value is likely lower with incentives to make up the difference.

Texans Flip No. 89 To Jaguars
While not as notable as the intra-AFC South Christian Kirk trade the Jaguars and Texans combined on, the two AFC South teams are making a third-round swap.
The Jaguars will now hold back-to-back third-round picks, taking No. 89 from the Texans. Jacksonville has No. 88 in its arsenal as well. After selecting cornerback Caleb Ransaw with the first of those picks, the Jags have followed it up with West Virginia offensive lineman Wyatt Milum.
Milum spent his first season with the Mountaineers operating at right tackle, serving as a starter for most of the campaign. After that, he moved to the blindside and remained a full-time starter and a key member of the team’s offense. In 2024, the 6-7, 313-pounder was named the Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year.
That accolade came in addition to consensus first-team All-American honors, a sign of Milum’s level of play as a senior. Despite his size, a move inside to guard could be in order at the NFL level (something which would, of course, also help explain how he remained on the board this long). Upon arrival in Duval County, he will look to compete for immediate playing time.
The Jaguars have Walker Little and Anton Harrison in place at both tackle spots. They will be counted on to operate as starters in 2025 and beyond, but Milum could look to serve in a swing tackle role. Failing that, he could see time as a first-team option at guard.

Jaguars Trade No. 70 To Lions
For the second time tonight, the Lions have traded up. After their swap with the Broncos, the NFC North champions agreed to acquire No. 70 from the Jaguars.
Detroit made a major Day 3 sacrifice with its previous trade, giving up a fourth-rounder in a second-round swap that only brought back a Denver seventh. The Lions are adding wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa out of Arkansas.
Terms of this deal point to the Lions placing a high value on TeSlaa, as they are sending two 2026 third-round picks to the Jaguars in the swap. That will be the cost for Detroit to move up from No. 102 to 70. The Jags are also sending No. 182 and a 2026 sixth-rounder to the Lions.
This certainly represents a notable cost for Detroit to pay, as Jacksonville will drop 32 spots in this round in exchange for two more Day 2 selections in 2026. Some pressure will be on TeSlaa to justify this haul, but he will head back to Michigan — having transferred from Hillsdale College, a Division II school — after averaging 19.5 yards per catch with the Razorbacks last season. TeSlaa also played quarterback in high school, eventually shifting into the slot at Arkansas.
The 6-foot-4 target, who totaled 545 receiving yards and three TDs last season, will join a Lions team that just picked up Jameson Williams‘ fifth-year option. Detroit, which gave Amon-Ra St. Brown a lucrative extension last year, also re-signed Tim Patrick in March. TeSlaa will have a chance to learn from some veteran presences early, but Patrick is only on a one-year deal — in an age-32 season.
