Wednesday’s minor moves:

- Waived: K Matthew Wright
Los Angeles Chargers
- Claimed off waivers (from Rams): S Chris Smith
Los Angeles Rams
- Signed from practice squad: K Harrison Mevis

- Signed from practice squad: WR Kevin Austin
New York Giants
- Designated for return from reserve/PUP: RB Eric Gray
Philadelphia Eagles
- Practice window opened: T Myles Hinton
Pittsburgh Steelers
- Reverted to season-ending IR: CB Cory Trice
21 days have gone by since the Steelers opened Trice’s practice window. They’ve made the decision not to activate him from injured reserve, so he will remain on IR without the possibility of being activated.
Gray has been on New York’s physically unable to perform list since they set their initial 53-man roster. With rookie running back Cam Skattebo hitting IR earlier in the season, Gray’s return could add some needed depth at the position.

Here are Wednesday’s minor moves around the NFL:
Dallas Cowboys
- Designated for return from IR: DT Perrion Winfrey
Houston Texans
- Designated for return from IR: FB Jakob Johnson
New England Patriots
- Signed from practice squad: RB Terrell Jennings
New York Giants
- Designated for return from IR: CB Rico Payton
Pittsburgh Steelers
- Opened practice window: DB Cory Trice
San Francisco 49ers
- Waived: OL Drew Moss
Seattle Seahawks
- Opened practice window: G Christian Haynes
Winfrey, Johnson and Payton have each started their 21-day activation periods. Bringing them back into the fold will use up one of their respective teams’ eight IR activations. By contrast, Trice and Haynes were given the designated for return label during roster cuts in August. As a result, their activations have already been accounted for.
Steelers Cut 13 Players, Set Initial 53-Man Roster
After slowly reducing their roster count over the past week, the Steelers officially got to their 53-player limit this afternoon. The Steelers announced the following transactions:
Released:
- DB Chuck Clark
- DB James Pierre
- OL Max Scharping
- RB Trey Sermon
- WR Robert Woods
Waived:
- DB Beanie Bishop
- DB Sebastian Castro
- OL Dylan Cook
- DL DeMarvin Leal
- LB Eku Leota
- WR Ke’Shawn Williams
Waived/injured:
Placed on IR (designated for return):
- DB Cory Trice
The Steelers made a pair of relatively surprising cuts on defense. Beanie Bishop joined the Steelers as a UDFA last year and ended up getting into all 17 games (six starts), compiling 45 tackles, four interceptions, and seven passes defended. If he doesn’t get scooped up by another team, there’s a good chance he lands back on Pittsburgh’s practice squad. The same goes for DeMarvin Leal, who appeared in 28 games for the Steelers since being selected in the third round of the 2022 draft.
On offense, the team terminated the contracts of two notable veterans. Robert Woods was looking to revive his career following two quiet seasons in Houston. The former Rams standout hit new lows in 2024, finishing with career-lows in receptions (20) and receiving yards (203). The team also moved on from former 49ers draft pick Trey Sermon. The running back spent the past two seasons with the Colts, where he collected 431 yards from scrimmage in 31 games.

Here are the latest moves from around the league, including game day elevations for Thursday Night football:
Arizona Cardinals
- Designated to return from injured reserve: CB Elijah Jones
Detroit Lions
- Signed to active roster: WR Maurice Alexander
- Elevated to the active roster from the practice squad: S Jamal Adams, OLB Mitchell Agude
Green Bay Packers
- Elevated to the active roster from the practice squad: CB Kalen King
Houston Texans
- Placed on reserve/suspended list: LB Azeez Al-Shaair
Pittsburgh Steelers
- Activated from injured reserve: CB Cory Trice
Seattle Seahawks
- Awarded via waivers: WR Jaelon Darden
- Waived: CB Dee Williams
The Lions signed Adams to their practice squad on Sunday after a slew of injuries on Thanksgiving. The onetime All-Pro played 20 snaps across three games for the Titans this year before he landed on the Non-Football injury list and requested his release. Though he’s still listed as a defensive back, Adams is likely to play in the box after Malcolm Rodriguez joined three other Lions linebacker on injured reserve.

Today’s minor moves:
Atlanta Falcons
- Waived: C Matt Hennessy
Philadelphia Eagles
- Promoted: TE C.J. Uzomah
Pittsburgh Steelers
- Designated for return: CB Cory Trice
Washington Commanders
- Promoted: K Zane Gonzalez, DE Efe Obada
Cory Trice was back at practice for the Steelers today after being sidelined for more than a month with a hamstring injury. The 2023 seventh-round pick made his NFL debut in Week 1 of the 2024 campaign, and he snagged his first career interception in Week 2. When he returns, he’ll likely slide back to an end-of-the-depth-chart CB/special teamer for Pittsburgh. With Trice returning to practice, the Steelers will now have 21 days to activate the player to the active roster.

Tuesday’s minor moves around the NFL:
Chicago Bears
- Promoted from practice squad: TE Stephen Carlson
Detroit Lions
- Promoted from practice squad: WR Tim Patrick
- Placed on IR: DE Marcus Davenport (story)
Las Vegas Raiders
- Promoted from practice squad: CB Sam Webb
- Placed on IR: S Marcus Epps (story)
New York Giants
- Released: FB Jakob Johnson
Philadelphia Eagles
- Promoted from practice squad: TE Jack Stoll
- Placed on IR: WR Britain Covey
Pittsburgh Steelers
- Promoted from practice squad: CB James Pierre
- Placed on IR: DB Cory Trice Jr.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Promoted from practice squad: LS Zach Triner
- Placed on IR: LS Evan Deckers
Patrick was among the Broncos’ final roster cuts but he quickly landed a deal with the Lions on their practice squad. Healthy after back-to-back years featuring major injuries, the 30-year-old has twice been a gameday elevation so far this year and logged a 44% offensive snap share. He will aim to remain in a depth role while now permanently on the active roster.
Covey will be sidelined for at least the next four weeks given today’s move. His injury is particularly notable given the fact A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith are both injured at the moment, thinning out the team’s receiver room. Covey, 27, received seven targets across the past two games and Philadelphia will need to turn to other options for a complementary role at wideout (along with the return game).

Moseley reportedly had a small clean-up procedure on his knee the other day as he continues to come back from last year’s ACL tear. According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, it doesn’t appear to be a major setback, and head coach Dan Campbell expects Moseley back on Monday.
The news on Harris’s retirement comes from KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson, who reports that the two sides “are parting ways as (Harris) plans to retire.” If this is truly the end of the road for Harris, then the transaction puts a cap on a five-year career that saw Harris rack up 11 total tackles, two tackles for loss, and three quarterback hits in the NFL.
Turk was urgently brought on as an undrafted rookie out of Oklahoma to compete with free agent addition Jake Bailey, formerly with the Patriots. The punter competition may be over quickly as Bailey is the only punter on the roster now.
Trice, the Steelers’ first of two seventh-round picks this year, suffered a non-contact injury at camp yesterday. His placement on injured reserve indicates that his rookie season has unfortunately come to an end before it had the chance to begin.
