Packers Re-Sign Christian Ringo
- DT Christian Ringo (Packers)
Packers Waive Makinton Dorleant
- The Packers have waived cornerback Makinton Dorleant, tweets Field Yates of ESPN.com. Dorleant was arrested along with Chicago’s Deiondre’ Hall earlier this offseason, and charged with suspicion of interference. After going undrafted in 2016, the 24-year-old Dorleant spent much of his rookie season on injured reserve before being activated in December. He played in four games (primarily on special teams) before being placed on IR again.
Packers Could Trade Brett Hundley In Next Year-Plus
- With Aaron Rodgers firmly entrenched under center, odds are the Packers will trade backup quarterback Brett Hundley over the next year-plus, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com. Green Bay’s hope is that it will be able to flip Hundley for a pick more valuable than the fifth-rounder it used on him in 2015. Hundley has since attempted 10 passes, all of which came last season, and is entering his penultimate year of team control.
Opinion: Sherman Makes Sense For Packers
- Former NFL executive and current ESPN.com analyst Joe Banner sees the Darrelle Revis trade of 2013 as a possible comp for a Sherman deal. The Jets received a first-round pick in 2013 and a fourth-round pick in 2014 in exchange for the corner. Meanwhile, Sheil Kapadia huddled up with his fellow beat writers to figure out landing spots that would make sense for Sherman. The writers say the Saints, Packers, Titans, and Patriots all make varying degrees of sense.
Packers Re-Sign Don Jackson
- The Packers have re-signed exclusive rights free agent running back Don Jackson, according to the league’s transaction wire. Jackson, 23, appeared in three games (one start) for Green Bay last season, and managed 32 rushing yards on 10 carries. Right now, the Packers’ running back depth chart only has four members: Ty Montgomery, Christine Michael, John Crockett (another ERFA), and Jackson.
Packers Cut DT Ego Ferguson
That was fast. Ego Ferguson failed his physical with the Packers and was released, according to the NFL’s transactions wire. Green Bay claimed Ferguson off waivers from the Bears just days ago.
Ferguson, a former second-round pick, was waived by the club late last week. He played in only four games in 2015 due to injuries and a ban for performance-enhancing drugs. Then, he missed all of 2016 with a shoulder injury. In total, he played in only 20 NFL games since being drafted in 2014. In that time, the 25-year-old (26 in September) compiled 26 tackles, two sacks, and three passes defended. The Packers wanted to see what he could bring to the table, but he’s apparently got a ways to go before he can take the practice field.
In other Packers news, the team recently met with controversial running back Joe Mixon. The Packers also added a former Arena League guard.
Packers Claim DT Ego Ferguson Off Waivers
The Packers have found defensive line help from an unlikely source. Green Bay has claimed Ego Ferguson off of waivers from the Bears, according to Field Yates of ESPN.com (on Twitter).
Ferguson, a second-round pick of the Bears’ old regime, was released last week. His exit from Chicago was a long time coming. He played in only four games in 2015 due to injuries and a suspension. Then, he missed all of last season with a shoulder injury. In total, he played in only 20 games since being drafted in 2014. In that time, the 25-year-old (26 in September) compiled 26 tackles, two sacks, and three passes defended. That’s not quite what Phil Emery had in mind when drafting him.
The Packers have gotten an up-close look at Ferguson over the past three years or so and they apparently feel that he still has something to offer. If Ferguson can get on the right track, stay healthy, and make the team, he could get multiple opportunities to make the Bears regret letting him go.
Packers Sign Long Snapper Derek Hart
- The Packers have signed long snapper Derek Hart, per Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com. Until Friday, Hart hadn’t gotten a contract since going undrafted out of James Madison in 2015.
Joe Mixon Visits Packers
- Add the Packers to the list of teams at least considering drafting Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon. The Pack brought Mixon in for a visit earlier this week, relays Mike Garafolo of NFL.com (Twitter link). At least two teams – the Patriots and Dolphins – have already ruled out a Mixon selection.
Packers Sign Justin McCray
- The Cardinals announced that they’ve signed wide receiver Harvey Binford. Binford, 26, participated in Arizona’s “pro combine” last weekend. A former Arena League player, Binford spent last summer with Green Bay but was waived in August. He worked out for the Packers again late last year, but failed to land a contract.
- The Packers have signed guard Justin McCray, the club announced today. Like Binford, McCray has also played in the Arena League. McCray began his career as an undrafted free agent signing with the Titans in 2014, and spent that entire season on Tennessee’s practice squad.
