2020 NFL Cap Space, By Team
As shown by Le’Veon Bell‘s recent deal with the Chiefs, big name free agents can come available at any point throughout the season. His contract wasn’t particularly pricey, but teams like to keep cash on hand during the year, especially when mulling potential trades before the deadline. Excess cap room can also be rolled over from year-to-year and give clubs the opportunity to lock up their most valuable players with extensions.
Here are the most recent figures for each team, via Over The Cap:

Jaguars To Place 12 Practice Squad Players On Reserve/COVID-19 List
The NFL’s expanded coronavirus protocols have resulted in more players landing on teams’ respective reserve/COVID-19 lists. The Jaguars have the most crowded list, as of Saturday afternoon.
The Jags placed 12 of their 16 practice squad players on their reserve/COVID-19 list, Tom Pelissero of NFL.com tweets. This does not yet appear to be a case of a dozen positive tests. Jacksonville P-squad offensive lineman K.C. McDermott tested positive, and the league’s new contact tracing protocols have led the team to put the bulk of its practice squad on the COVID list for the time being.
Here are the players who joined McDermott on the Jags’ reserve/COVID list:
- RB Nathan Cottrell
- TE Ben Ellefson
- LB Nate Evans
- LB Joe Giles-Harris
- WR Terry Godwin
- WR Josh Hammond
- T Jared Hilbers
- DB Doug Middleton
- DB Josh Nurse
- T Austen Pleasents
- WR Trey Quinn
Suspended defensive end Josh Mauro will join McDermott and the slew of P-squad players on the COVID-19 list, Pelissero adds (on Twitter). Mauro has been suspended throughout the season for a positive PED test.
Considering players placed on this list must isolate for five days, the Jaguars will need to make some moves to fill out a practice squad following their Week 6 game. Even players who are asymptomatic after close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19 must isolate for at least five days. The Jags face the Chargers next Sunday; there will be several new P-squad players to start their next week of practice.
Jaguars PS Player Tests Positive For COVID-19
The Jaguars announced that a player on their practice squad has tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, the team will be holding virtual meetings today, and their game against the Lions tomorrow is still expected to be played.
“Last night, we received results from our daily PCR testing that revealed an individual on our practice squad tested positive for COVID-19,” the team said in a statement. “After confirming the positive test, our organization began working with the NFL to review contact tracing data while the player self-isolated.
“As a precautionary measure for today, we made the decision to conduct our football activities remotely while following the NFL protocols and recommendations. This decision was made in consultation with the NFL and the team’s medical advisors. The health and safety of our players, coaches and staff, as well as their families, as our top priority.”
NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero tweets that every member of the organization received rapid-result tests this morning.
While the news isn’t great in Jacksonville, it’s a bit better in New England. ESPN’s Mike Reiss reports that the Patriots opened their team facility on Saturday. The Pats join the Colts and Falcons among teams that have reopened facilities over the past 24 hours. New England canceled practice on Friday after another player tested positive for COVID-19.
Jaguars Release Cassius Marsh
The Jaguars have released linebacker Cassius Marsh, per a club announcement. Marsh was effectively squeezed out of Jacksonville on Wednesday, when the Jags acquired linebacker Kamalei Correa from the Titans.
Marsh, 28, appeared in 84 total games from 2014-2019 since being selected by the Seahawks in the fourth round. Capable of playing a hybrid defensive end/linebacker role, Marsh spent 2019 in Arizona, where he posted 2.5 sacks and five quarterback hits on 428 snaps.
The Jaguars inked him to a one-year deal with a modest guarantee of $600K back in March. He didn’t get a chance to make much of an impact with the Jaguars this year, tallying nine total stops in four games. Marsh’s most notable work came in 2018, when he amassed 5.5 sacks for the 49ers. He also saw action on roughly 50% of the Niners’ special teams plays that year and he’s approached the 80% ST threshold in prior seasons.
As a vested veteran, Marsh is now free to sign with any NFL team.
Minor NFL Transactions: 10/14/20

Chicago Bears
- Promoted: OL Sam Mustipher
- Placed on IR: G James Daniels
Cleveland Browns
- Promoted: CB Robert Jackson
New England Patriots
- Signed off Jaguars’ practice squad: DL Carl Davis
Tennessee Titans
- Activated from reserve/COVID-19 list: WR Cameron Batson, WR Adam Humphries

Titans Trade LB Kamalei Correa To Jags
The Titans have found a taker for Kamalei Correa. After the linebacker requested a trade, the Titans agreed on a deal that will send him to the Jaguars, Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero of NFL.com report (via Twitter).
As expected, the compensation is minimal. In a pick-swap agreement, the Jags will send the Titans their 2021 sixth-round pick and receive a 2021 seventh-rounder from Tennessee.
Correa has played just 39 defensive snaps this season and, after coming off Tennessee’s reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, did not play against the Bills. As a result, a rare intra-division trade will commence. The Titans were set to release Correa had they not found a trade partner.
This marks the second trade of Correa’s five-year career. The Ravens dealt the outside linebacker to the Titans just before the 2018 season. The former second-round pick played 32 games with the Titans, making nine starts and tallying 8.5 sacks.
Correa will follow Jabaal Sheard to Jacksonville. The Jaguars gutted their “Sacksonville” defensive line this offseason, cutting Marcell Dareus and trading Calais Campbell and Yannick Ngakoue. Like Sheard, Correa is in line to work as a depth piece behind first-round picks Josh Allen and K’Lavon Chaisson.
Jaguars Sign Jabaal Sheard
The Jaguars have added Jabaal Sheard to their practice squad, per a club announcement. Sheard will be at the ready for a Jaguars’ edge unit lacking in experience and lagging in production as of late.

Sheard has 103 starts and 51.5 sacks for his career, including a recent three-year stint with the Colts. The Colts let him walk this offseason, and he didn’t generate a ton of buzz once he hit the open market. He wasn’t a world-beater in 2019, but he did grade as one of the better run defenders among edge players, per Pro Football Focus, during his first two seasons with Indy.
Despite having recent first-round picks Josh Allen and K’Lavon Chaisson in the lineup, the Jags have just five sacks through five games. On Sunday, the front seven managed to put some pressure on Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, but it wasn’t enough to make up for the team’s offensive shortcomings. Now 1-4, the Jaguars will look to stop their four-game slide against the Lions on Sunday.
