Latest On LeSean McCoy
- Chiefs running back LeSean McCoy has settled a lawsuit with his former girlfriend in which she accused him of orchestrating an attack against her in 2018, according to a report from the Associated Press. Delicia Gordon claimed McCoy failed to protect her from being robbed, bloodied, and beaten in a July incident, and later revised her lawsuit to allege McCoy abused her and organized the assault. McCoy, for his part, has denied the allegations, never been charged with a crime, and was never suspended or placed on the commissioner’s exempt list by the NFL.
- In case you missed it, the Chiefs placed running back Darrell Williams on injured reserve this week and replaced him by signing old friend Spencer Ware.

Chiefs Place Darrel Williams On IR
The Chiefs placed running back Darrel Williams on injured reserve, per a club announcement. Williams has been hobbling since suffering a hamstring injury against the Raiders last week and team doctors told him that he would be unable to play for the rest of the year.
Earlier this week, the Chiefs brought back old friend Spencer Ware, so they should be set in the backfield. Ware figures to see time down the stretch, particularly as Damien Williams battles through his rib injury.
Williams’ season ends with 141 yards off of 41 carries and three touchdowns, plus 15 grabs for 167 yards and a score through the air.
In a related move, the Chiefs promoted defensive back Alex Brown from the practice squad.
Chiefs Designate DT Xavier Williams To Return From IR
The Chiefs’ defense has seen a few key players return to full strength in recent weeks, and the unit stands to soon have another key supporting-caster back. Xavier Williams returned to practice Wednesday, classifying him as an IR-DTR player.
After suffering a high ankle sprain, the fifth-year defensive tackle has been on IR since the days leading up to the Chiefs’ Week 7 game. He will not be able to return to game action until Week 16. The Chiefs have three weeks from Wednesday to activate Williams or place him on IR.
A Kansas City, Mo., native, Williams joined his hometown team in 2018 via RFA offer sheet. The former UDFA spent his first three seasons with the Cardinals. He started four games last season and played in all 16 regular-season games and both of Kansas City’s playoff contests.
The Chiefs have dealt with injuries to Williams, Chris Jones, Frank Clark, Emmanuel Ogbah and Alex Okafor this season. Jones, Ogbah and Okafor have returned to action. Kansas City has used second-year player Derrick Nnadi as its starting nose tackle for most of the past two years, so a Williams return will be a depth-based bonus for the AFC West leaders.
Chiefs Sign RB Spencer Ware
The Chiefs are banged up at running back, so they’re turning to a familiar face for reinforcement. The team has signed veteran running back Spencer Ware, reports Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star (via Twitter). In a corresponding move, the Chiefs cut wideout Gehrig Dieter.
Starting running back Damien Williams missed the Chiefs’ blowout over the Raiders with a rib injury, and Darrell Williams suffered a hamstring injury during the contest. That left Kansas City with only two healthy running backs heading into this Sunday’s matchup against the Patriots: 31-year-old LeSean McCoy and sixth-round rookie Darwin Thompson.
So in comes Ware, who spent four years with the Chiefs between 2015 and 2018. The LSU product had his best season in 2016, when he ran for 921 yards and three scores on 214 carries. He also added another 33 receptions for 447 yards and two touchdowns that season. Ware sat out the 2017 campaign recovering from a torn PCL and knee damage, and he saw a reduced role for the Chiefs in 13 games last year.
Ware signed with the Colts back in April, but he was placed on the PUP list after after undergoing ankle surgery. He was ultimately cut by Indy in late September. He hasn’t seen the field for the 2019 campaign, but he has auditioned for the Cardinals, Raiders, and Buccaneers.

Tyreek Hill Avoids Major Hamstring Injury
Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill may not miss any games with a hamstring injury, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. Hill underwent an MRI and it revealed the injury is more similar to one that would make a team cautious during training camp, per Rapoport. Luckily for the Chiefs, their bye this week allows them to be extra careful with their star receiver and still have him back on the field for their next game.
Hill left Kansas City’s game against the Chargers on Monday Night Football and did not return. However, according to Rapoport, he tried to convince his coaches to put him back in. Luckily for the Chiefs, they managed to pull out a 24-17 victory despite the absence of one of their biggest weapons.
The Chiefs electric offense has worked around Hill’s absence in a few games this season, but is surely at its best with one of the best deep threats in football healthy. While he has played in just seven games this season (including his short appearance on Monday), Hill has still managed to amass 543 receiving yards on 33 receptions.
