Jaguars Sign Quincy Williams
The Jaguars’ entire draft class is in the books. On Wednesday, the Jaguars announced the signing of third-round linebacker Quincy Williams, the club’s last straggler in the 2019 group.
Williams, the brother of third-overall pick Quinnen Williams, was a surprise pick in the third round. The Murray State linebacker wasn’t among the 400 players scouted by NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah, nor was he on the list of 730 prospects compiled by The Athletic’s Arif Hasan. He wasn’t invited to the Combine and Murray State didn’t have a Pro Day, so Williams assumed he was going to go undrafted.
“For me coming from a small school and didn’t get a combine invite, yeah, I kind of did,” Williams said. “Then I had to go to Pro Day somewhere else, so most people thought I was a safety or a smaller linebacker, so yeah it was a thought in my mind. But then I know my abilities, and I believe in myself.”

Poll: Which Top 10 Pick Has The Highest Bust Potential?
The NFL Draft is just barely in the rear view mirror, which means that teams are full of hope for their young rookies. But, of course, the NFL Draft is largely a crapshoot, and not every player will realize their full potential. 
This year’s draft had talent, but lacked a true consensus on the top player. Many evaluators pegged defensive end Nick Bosa as the player with the highest ceiling in the 2019 class, but other saw Alabama’s Quinnen Williams as the “safest bet.” The 49ers pounced on Bosa with the No. 2 pick while the Jets (and former GM Mike Maccagnan) were delighted to land Williams at No. 3 overall.
Leading up to the draft, much of the attention was on Oklahoma quarterback (and one-time MLB hopeful) Kyler Murray. When Murray announced that he would ditch the Oakland A’s, his stock exploded – Murray was considered a borderline first-round prospect in the winter, but wound up as the Cardinals’ choice at No. 1 overall. Murray has the speed that teams crave at the QB position, but questions persist about his size and overall lack of experience as a full-time starter.
The Cardinals’ long flirtation with Murray brought us the expected result, but the Raiders gave us the real first shock of the draft when they tapped Clemson defensive end Clelin Ferrell at No. 4 overall. Not to be outdone, the Giants snagged Duke’s Daniel Jones at No. 6 overall. Heading into the draft, neither player was thought to be anywhere near Top 10 consideration, but Mike Mayock and Dave Gettleman were unwilling to trade down and risk losing out on their guys.
The domino effect created by those picks allowed the Bucs to grab inside linebacker Devin White (No. 5 overall), the Jaguars to land outside linebacker Josh Allen (No. 6), the Lions to snag top tight end T.J. Hockenson, the Bills to draft defensive tackle Ed Oliver (No. 9 overall), and the Steelers to finish out the Top 10 with linebacker Devin Bush. Most of those picks were warmly received, but nothing is certain in the draft.

Jaguars Won’t Extend Jalen Ramsey This Year
The Jaguars informed Jalen Ramsey‘s agent that they will not negotiate an extension with him this year, according to the cornerback (Twitter link via John Reid of the Florida Times Union). Despite the hiccups, Ramsey was in attendance for the start of the club’s mandatory minicamp, unlike teammate Yannick Ngakoue who is in a similar boat.

Ramsey was asked if the team declined to discuss an extension because of the team’s cap situation and he was unsympathetic to those potential constraints. “The money’s always there,” Ramsey told reporters.
Last year, the 24-year-old (25 in October) tallied 65 total tackles and three interceptions en route to a second career Pro Bowl nod. He had similar numbers in 2017, leading him to a First-Team All-Pro nod.
However, he has clashed with team brass in the past and has been vocal about his desire for an extension, so that could be cause for pause in Jacksonville. In February, the Jaguars picked up Ramsey’s fifth-year option, tying him to the club through the 2020 season. Beyond that, the Jaguars can theoretically keep Ramsey away from the open market via the franchise tag.
Zane Beadles Retires
Veteran offensive lineman Zane Beadles is retiring, as Beadles himself announced on Twitter. After nine years in the league, the 2012 Pro Bowler has decided to call it a career.
Beadles, 32, entered the NFL as a second-round pick of the Broncos in the 2010 draft. He promptly became a fixture at left guard, and started all 16 games there from 2011-13.
He parlayed his strong tenure with the Broncos into a five-year, $30MM deal with the Jaguars after the 2013 season, and his streak of durability continued in Jacksonville, as he started all 16 games for the Jags from 2014-15. But he wasn’t overly effective, and Pro Football Focus ranked him as one of the worst guards in the league in 2015. Jacksonville released him in March 2016.
He quickly caught on with the 49ers and, once again, started all 16 games in the 2016 season. But in 2017, he lost his starting job, and though he played in all 16 games, he started just five, with four of those coming at right tackle as an injury replacement.
He was released by San Francisco last May and signed with the Falcons a few weeks into the 2018 campaign. He was signed to serve as an experienced backup but ended up starting the final five games for the club at right guard.
The Utah product leaves the game with no Super Bowl ring but with just shy of $24MM in career earnings. He put out the following statement on Twitter:
“I can’t thank the people who helped me get there and stay there enough for their support. I am excited for the next chapter for my family and I. I know the lessons learned living the crazy life this great game requires will propel us forward into more greatness.”

Jaguars’ Yannick Ngakoue To Skip Minicamp
The Jaguars will not have Yannick Ngakoue as they begin their mandatory minicamp. On Monday, the defensive end announced that he will stay at home in hopes of getting a better deal. 
“I will not be attending minicamp as my contract has not been resolved,” Ngakoue said. “I remain committed to Jacksonville, the fans and my teammates. My hope is to be with Jacksonville for years to come.”
Ngakoue reported to the Jaguars for the start of the club’s voluntary workouts in May but stopped showing up after a few days. Now, the 24-year-old is showing that he is serious about his desire for a new deal by absorbing nearly $90K in fines.
Ngakoue is entering a contract year and is set to make just $2.025MM, making him criminally underpaid given his production. Over the last three years, Ngakoue has racked up 29.5 sacks, and he wants to be compensated as one of the best young DEs in the NFL.
The going rate for quality young edge rushers continues to skyrocket. Earlier this offseason, Frank Clark inked a five-year, $105MM deal with the Chiefs after coming over from the Seahawks. Days prior to that, Demarcus Lawrence signed a similar deal to remain with the Cowboys.

Details On Terrelle Pryor’s Jaguars Deal
Last week, the Jaguars inked wide receiver Terrelle Pryor shortly after he auditioned on the practice field. We now have the details on the deal, courtesy of ESPN.com’s Michael DiRocco (Twitter link): it’s a one-year, $930K veteran’s minimum contract. 
With the veteran’s minimum deal, Pryor will count for just $645K against the salary cap. Per the collective bargaining agreement, players with four or more years of experience can sign a one-year deal for the veteran’s minimum salary while the team will only carry a three-year pro’s minimum salary on the books.
There’s little risk in the deal for the Jaguars as they have added a one-time 1,000-yard receiver for next to nothing. And, if Pryor can’t prove that he is healthy in camp, they can walk away with no fiscal penalty.
It’s probably not the deal Pryor envisioned for himself, but the former Browns standout has earned more than $14MM over the course of his career, thanks in large part to recent pacts with the Redskins and Jets.

Jaguars Sign DT Datone Jones
The Jaguars have agreed to sign free agent defensive tackle Datone Jones, according to his agents at DEC Management (Twitter link). In a corresponding move, Jacksonville has waived defensive end Shane Bowman, per Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com (Twitter link). The club has since confirmed the transaction.
Jones, 28, was selected by the Packers with the 26th overall pick of the 2013 draft, but he’s never been able to put it all together at the NFL level. In four seasons with Green Bay, Jones appeared in 60 games, but made only seven starts and never topped 600 snaps in any individual campaign. Jones posted just nine total sacks with the Packers, who subsequently declined his fifth-year option and allowed him to hit free agency in 2017.
After reaching the open market, Jones signed a one-year deal with the Vikings, but didn’t make Minnesota’s final roster. He bounced around the NFL, spending time with the Lions and 49ers before landing with the Cowboys midway through the 2017 season. Jones played Dallas’ season opener last year, but a hamstring injury ended his season in early September.
Jones will face an uphill battle to make the Jaguars’ roster. Fellow defensive tackles Marcell Dareus, Abry Jones, and Taven Bryan are locks for Jacksonville’s 53, so Jones will likely compete with rookie seventh-rounder Dontavius Russell for a roster spot.
