With Devin Neal landing on IR today and Alvin Kamara still sidelined with a sprained MCL, the Saints have added a veteran running back to their practice squad. Nyheim Miller-Hines was released by the Bills after missing the 2023 campaign following a watercraft accident, and the RB has bounced around the league since. He spent most of the 2024 campaign in Cleveland, and he spent the first chunk of the 2025 season with the Chargers, appearing in two games.
The former fourth-round pick made a name for himself as a pass catcher with the Colts, including a pair of seasons where he hauled in 60-plus receptions. While he may eventually work his way to the Saints active roster, he may be hard pressed to pass the likes of Audric Estime and Evan Hull on the depth chart.
Chargers Reunite With S Marcus Maye
The Chargers reunited with veteran safety Marcus Maye on Tuesday by signing him to their practice squad, per a team announcement.
Maye, 32, started the 2024 season with the Dolphins but was claimed off waivers by the Chargers at the end of November. He appeared in four games (one start) in Los Angeles before an ankle injury forced him on injured reserve.
The eight-year veteran hit free agency but was not connected with any team until a November workout with the Commanders. Maye did not earn a gig in Washington, but he is now needed in Los Angeles after multiple injuries in the Chargers’ safety room. Veteran Elijah Molden missed Sunday’s matchup with the Chiefs and rookie RJ Mickens went down during the game.
Last year, and for much of his career, Maye has been a steady if unspectacular safety who was a full-time starter through 2023. Despite his experience, he remained a free agent for most of the 2025 season, which could indicate that he was more selective about a new opportunity or needed more time for his ankle to fully heal.
Along with Maye, Chargers also signed undrafted rookie offensive lineman Josh Kaltenberger to their practice squad. In two corresponding moves, they released running back Royce Freeman and tight end Tanner McLachlan.

With J.J. McCarthy close to a return from his concussion, the Vikings parted ways with Ridder. He was signed last week after McCarthy entered concussion protocol, but was not elevated to back up Max Brosmer in Week 13. That responsibility instead went to John Wolford, who remains in Minnesota.
Bishop was released by the Steelers at the beginning of November. After appearing all 17 games last year with a 50% snap share, he did not make the 53-man roster this season and remained on the practice squad. He will now join the Saints in the hopes of making his 2025 debut in New Orleans.

Both Jacksonville and San Francisco had their practice squads filled up with 16 players apiece, but Zierer and Alarcón were both able to be added as players in the league’s International Player Pathway Program. Zierer is a German-born lineman, and Alarcón was born in Mexico.
Chargers Add Nyheim Miller-Hines To Practice Squad
With the Chargers suddenly thin at running back, they’re bringing back a familiar face. The team signed Nyheim Miller-Hines to its practice squad on Tuesday, Kris Rhim of ESPN reports.
Thanks largely to a jet ski accident that left him with a torn ACL and threw his career off course, Miller-Hines hasn’t appeared in a regular-season game since 2022. The former Colt, Bill, and Brown signed with the Chargers in July, but he was unable to crack their season-opening roster.
After the Chargers released him from their practice squad in early September, Miller-Hines is returning to a team that’s in dire need of help in the backfield. He could play this week against the Dolphins, according to Rhim.
The Chargers, losers of two in a row after a 3-0 start, placed starting RB Omarion Hampton on IR with an ankle injury on Monday. That came two weeks after veteran Najee Harris suffered a season-ending torn Achilles.
With Hampton set to miss at least four games and Harris done for 2025, the Chargers are left with the unproven duo of Hassan Haskins and Kimani Vidal as their top options at the position. With that in mind, they worked out Miller-Hines and fellow veteran RBs D’Onta Foreman, Royce Freeman, and Trayveon Williams on Tuesday, per Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2.
Miller-Hines is one of a few new additions to the Chargers’ practice squad. They also signed wide receiver Jalen Reagor and center Josh Kaltenberger, Wilson relays. The team released guard Michael Dunn and linebacker Kana’i Mauga from its practice squad in corresponding moves. The Bolts recently released Reagor, a first-round pick of the Eagles in 2020 and a Charger last year, and Kaltenberger. Like Miller-Hines, they’re now back in the organization.

The Chargers added a familiar face in Sam Mustipher today. A former UDFA, the offensive lineman started 40 of his 43 appearances with the Bears to begin his career, playing the majority of his snaps at center. He got into nine games with the Ravens in 2023 before appearing in 12 contests with the Chargers in 2024. Mustipher also has the ability to play guard, although the Chargers are especially needy at OT with Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater sidelined.
Dante Pettis will also be reuniting with a recent team, as the wideout spent the 2024 season in New Orleans. The former second-round pick has failed to live up to his draft billing, with the majority of his career production coming during a rookie campaign where he collected 27 receptions for 467 yards and five touchdowns. He’s bounced around the league a bit since his 49ers tenure came to an end. After not getting into a game in 2023, he resurfaced with the Saints in 2024, where he added 12 more catches to his resume. He was among the team’s final preseason cuts in 2025.
A former fifth-round running back, Avery Williams has made a name for himself as a returner. He spent four years in Atlanta, returning 54 kickoffs for 1211 yards (22.4-yard average). He missed the 2023 campaign with a torn ACL. The Jets returners have struggled in 2025, with both Xavier Gipson and Isaiah Williams fumbling on special teams.
