- Elevated: RB Chase Edmonds, CB Tre Hawkins
With the 49ers set to see their starting quarterback return, Martinez’s presence on the 53-man roster is no longer necessary. He’ll likely find his way back to the team’s practice squad.
The Panthers’ two elevations, Barnes and Mukuamu, are direct reflections of injury absences for tomorrow’s game. With Trevin Wallace and Lathan Ransom ruled out for Sunday, Carolina made the decision to call up another player at each position.
Mevis will once again be called upon for kicking duties in Los Angeles. In his NFL debut last week, he was untested in terms of field goal attempts, but he converted all six extra point attempts in a blowout win in San Francisco.
Kamara in Tampa Bay is being called up for the third time this season. If the Buccaneers intend to play him in another game this year, they’ll need to sign him to the 53-man roster, much as the Ravens did after Bryan exhausted all three of his standard gameday practice squad elevations.

- Elevated: WR Treylon Burks, DT Sheldon Day
The Steelers are getting Harrison back at a crucial time. Fellow linebacker Cole Holcomb has been ruled out this weekend with an illness — as has safety Chuck Clark, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network — and Harrison should be able to reinforce the group. He has plenty of experience playing next to starter Patrick Queen from their time together in Baltimore, so perhaps he’ll be able to step in and contribute right away.
The Chargers continue to see their running backs room plagued with injury. Haskins joins Omarion Hampton and Najee Harris on injured reserve. Johnson and Patterson will suit up tomorrow to provide some depth behind lone survivor Kimani Vidal.
With Terry McLaurin once again set to miss time, Burks, the newly signed p-squad addition, will make his Washington debut. Also a newly signed p-squad addition, Lewis will make his Denver debut this weekend. If he sees game time, 2025 will officially be Lewis’ 20th season in the NFL.
After missing the last three games, Gross-Matos appeared to be close to returning to play. According to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports, the 27-year-old re-injured his hamstring at practice on Thursday and will now miss another four games.
For Leota in New Orleans, Mosby in Green Bay, Sermon in Pittsburgh, Zakelj in San Francisco, and both Proche and Watkins in Tennessee, this Sunday will be their third and final standard gameday practice squad elevation on their current deals. In order to appear in any more games after this, their respective teams will need to sign them to the active roster.
NFL Practice Squad Updates: 8/31/25
Here are Sunday’s only practice squad transactions to close out the final weekend of 2025 without NFL football:
Los Angeles Chargers
- Signed: WR Luke Grimm, RB Amar Johnson
- Released: G Karsen Barnhart
- Placed on practice squad/injured list: WR Jalen Reagor
Philadelphia Eagles
- Signed: WR Terrace Marshall
The Chargers brought two undrafted rookies onto their practice squad, making space by letting go of Barnhart and putting the veteran, Reagor, on the injured list. Barnhart started three positions on the Wolverines offensive line during Michigan’s championship season but went undrafted and failed to appear in an NFL game as a rookie last year.
Johnson rushed for over 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns in his final year at South Dakota State. Grimm was the top receiver at Kansas last year after averaging 623 receiving yards and six touchdowns over his last three seasons for the Jayhawks.

- RB MarShawn Lloyd
- OL Jacob Monk
Placed on IR
Placed on reserve/PUP

- WR Christian Watson
- OL John Williams
Despite his struggles to carve out a role in the NFL, Simmons made the 53-man roster in each of his first five seasons after the Cardinals selected him with the No. 8 pick in 2020. That streak has come to an end in Green Bay with his release today.
Alexandre is expected to return to the Packers’ practice squad if he clears waivers, per USA Today’s Ryan Wood, who places Banks in the same category.
Lloyd suffered a groin injury early in training camp and a hamstring injury more recently, which will land him on IR and sideline him for at least four weeks. Monk, though to be the team’s backup center, will also be out for a minimum of four weeks.
Minor NFL Transactions: 7/27/25
Here are Sunday’s minor transactions to close out the weekend:
Arizona Cardinals

Buffalo Bills
- Activated from active/NFI list: TE Dawson Knox, WR Laviska Shenault

Arizona is adding the brother of Stephon Gilmore after placing two cornerbacks on injured reserve earlier today. Thomas-Oliver was released by the Lions a day after suffering a hamstring injury in practice. He had returned to practice only three days ago from the active/non-football injury list.
NFL Minor Transactions: 7/18/25
Here are today’s minor NFL transactions as we head into the weekend:
Detroit Lions
- Signed: CB Dicaprio Bootle, CB Tyson Russell, RB Jabari Small
Green Bay Packers
- Placed on active/PUP: DE Collin Oliver, CB Micah Robinson, LB Quay Walker, WR Christian Watson (story), G John Williams
- Placed on active/NFI: K Alex Hale, C Elgton Jenkins, RB Amar Johnson
- Waived: DT Nesta Jade Silvera, DT Cameron Young
San Francisco 49ers
- Placed on active/PUP: WR Brandon Aiyuk (story), T Andre Dillard, DE Yetur Gross-Matos, S Malik Mustapha (story), WR Ricky Pearsall (story), LB Curtis Robinson
- Placed on active/NFI: OL Ben Bartch, S George Odum
The Lions have added three players to the roster today after a working them out. Bootle has had a cup of coffee with a few teams in the league after going undrafted in 2021. Small didn’t see the field at all as an undrafted rookie with the Titans last year, and Russell becomes the latest undrafted rookie free agent to sign a deal this year. His tenacity has been rewarded two and a half months after the draft.
Packers Sign 10 UDFAs
While serving as the host of the 2025 draft, the Packers selected eight rookies over the course of the three-day event. Green Bay has since added to its rookie class with the following UDFA signings:
- Johnathan Baldwin, CB (UNLV)
- Brant Banks, T (Rice)
- Kahzir Brown, S (FAU)
- Tyler Cooper, G (Minnesota)
- Tyron Herring, CB (Delaware)
- Amar Johnson, RB (South Dakota State)
- Jamon Johnson, LB (Kentucky)
- J.J. Lipe, G (Northern Illinois)
- Nazir Stackhouse, DT (Georgia)
- Jalen White, RB (Georgia Southern)
The Packers do not have a track record of making major commitments in term of base salaries for undrafted free agents. Baldwin represents an exception, however. ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reports he received $100K locked in for his base salary along with a $15K signing bonus. That is a strong indication he will receive a long look during the summer.
Brown measured 6-1 and 223 pounds at FAU’s Pro Day, during which he posted a 4.53 40-yard dash time. That combination of size and speed could help him land a roster spot in a special teams capacity. Brown posted a pair of interceptions, along with eight pass deflections and a forced fumble in 2024.
Stackhouse won a pair of championships with the Bulldogs during his five-year run with the team. With only three sacks to his name, he will look to carve out a role based on his play against the run. The 6-3, 320-pounder totaled 96 tackles (including nine for a loss) in college.
