With the 49ers set to see their starting quarterback return, Martinez’s presence on the 53-man roster is no longer necessary. He’ll likely find his way back to the team’s practice squad.
The Panthers’ two elevations, Barnes and Mukuamu, are direct reflections of injury absences for tomorrow’s game. With Trevin Wallace and Lathan Ransom ruled out for Sunday, Carolina made the decision to call up another player at each position.
Mevis will once again be called upon for kicking duties in Los Angeles. In his NFL debut last week, he was untested in terms of field goal attempts, but he converted all six extra point attempts in a blowout win in San Francisco.
Kamara in Tampa Bay is being called up for the third time this season. If the Buccaneers intend to play him in another game this year, they’ll need to sign him to the 53-man roster, much as the Ravens did after Bryan exhausted all three of his standard gameday practice squad elevations.
Buccaneers Activate Luke Goedeke From IR
After returning to practice on Nov. 3, Buccaneers right tackle Luke Goedeke is already set to rejoin their lineup. The team announced that it has activated Goedeke from injured reserve. Goedeke is now eligible to play against the Patriots on Sunday.
The Buccaneers have gone without Goedeke since he aggravated a foot injury in a Week 2 win over the Texans. The team has since welcomed back left tackle Tristan Wirfs from offseason knee surgery. He and Goedeke are now set to bookend the Bucs’ line for the first time this year. That’s excellent news for a unit that lost right guard Cody Mauch to a season-ending knee injury in mid-September.
Injuries have torn through the Buccaneers’ offense this season, but they’re still 6-2 and in first place in the NFC South. Quarterback Baker Mayfield has offered an MVP-level performance despite the long-term absences of Goedeke, Wirfs, wide receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, and running back Bucky Irving, among others.
The return of Goedeke should make life easier on Mayfield. A second-round pick in 2022 and a former tackle at Central Michigan, Goedeke spent most of his rookie year at guard. He made a full-time transition to tackle in his second season and hasn’t looked back. Goedeke started in all 30 of his appearances from 2023-24, leading the Buccaneers to hand him a four-year, $90MM extension this past September.
To make room for Goedeke, the Buccaneers waived safety Sebastian Castro. Signed off the Steelers’ practice squad in late September, the undrafted rookie from Iowa picked up one tackle in his lone appearance with the Buccaneers in Week 6.
In other Saturday moves, the Bucs elevated linebackers Nick Jackson and Mohamed Kamara from their practice squad for Sunday’s game. Jackson, another undrafted rookie from Iowa, is in line for his season debut. This is the second elevation of the season for Kamara, who played in five games with the Dolphins as a fourth-round rookie last year. Those two are up with the Buccaneers having ruled out LBs Haason Reddick and Markees Watts for Week 10.

Recently named QB2 Shedeur Sanders found his way to the injury report today with a back injury. By elevating Zappe, Cleveland is ensuring Sanders won’t play tomorrow, since in order to have three quarterbacks dressed for gameday, all three passers must be on the 53-man roster. Zappe will back up Dillon Gabriel, and Sanders will likely be in sweats. Similarly in Carolina, with Bryce Young set to sit this week, Hooker has been called up to back up Andy Dalton.
Both Buccaneers quarterbacks, Baker Mayfield and Teddy Bridgewater, were on the injury report this week, though neither received a “questionable” injury designation as result of their ailments. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported that both passers are expected to be available, but with Bazelak taking up a spot on the active roster, it seems likely that only one other quarterback will be suited up alongside the practice squad callup. Because Bazelak’s not on the 53-man roster, only two passers can be active. Tampa Bay can still designate Bazelak as the inactive third quarterback, but doing so would seemingly be making this elevation moot.
There is no corresponding move necessary for Philadelphia to add Cooper. The team received a two-game roster exemption after signing veteran defensive end Brandon Graham, so they had an open roster spot.
For Basham in Carolina and Jennings in New England, this will be their third and final standard gameday practice squad elevations. If either of their respective teams want them to play in another game this season, they will need to first be signed to the 53-man roster.

Ismail was one of 17 players to work out for the Giants on Thursday, per The Athletic’s Dan Duggan. He won the practice squad spot over more notable players like former Broncos safety Caden Sterns and former Browns quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Canadian quarterback Taylor Elgersma also attended the workout, per Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post, suggesting that the Giants might be looking for extra depth at the position.
Wallace worked out for the Vikings on Thursday, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. It must have gone well, as he was signed to the practice squad hours later as extra depth both in the secondary and on special teams.
Griffin returned to the Seahawks this offseason, eight years after they made him a third-round pick in the 2017 draft. He did not make Seattle’s 53-man roster, but as a vested veteran, he was able to re-sign to the practice squad without going through waivers.

In four seasons with the team, Eichenberg has started at every position on the offensive line. The Dolphins will miss his versatility while he’s out, but head coach Mike McDaniel confirmed recently that Eichenberg’s injury is not a season-ending one.
Sanders’ hip injury landed him on injured reserve, meaning Miami will be without him for at least the first month of the season. To deal with his absence, the Dolphins hosted four veteran kickers — Zane Gonzalez, Greg Joseph, Riley Patterson, and Eddy Pineiro — for tryouts today, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Besides that, there weren’t many surprises in the cuts today. Tindall had been a core special teamer for each of his first three years in Miami but may have to find his way to the field through the practice squad. According to Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network, Murphy had a really strong summer with the team and should be back on the practice squad, as long as he clears waivers.
Dolphins Sign Five Rookies
The Dolphins finally inked some of their rookies to contracts. The team announced that they’ve signed five of their 2024 draft picks:
- Round 4, No. 120 (from Rams through Steelers and Eagles): Jaylen Wright (RB, Tennessee)
- Round 5, No. 158: Mohamed Kamara (EDGE, Colorado State)
- Round 6, No. 184 (from Bears): Malik Washington (WR, Virginia)
- Round 6, No. 198: Patrick McMorris (S, Cal)
- Round 7, No. 241: Tahj Washington (WR, USC)
These five rookies kick off the organization’s draft-class signings. First-round edge defender Chop Robinson and second-round offensive tackle Patrick Paul remain unsigned.
Considering how much the Dolphins have gotten out of their running backs in recent years, Jaylen Wright is certainly an intriguing addition. The Tennessee prospect took it to another level this past season, finishing with 1,154 yards from scrimmage. The rookie has an uphill battle for playing time behind the likes of Raheem Mostert, De’Von Achane, and Jeff Wilson, but he could easily slide up the depth chart if/when the team faces injuries.
Patrick McMorris is another prospect who could see a role in 2024. After two standout seasons at SDSU, the safety continued his production after transferring to California, finishing with 90 tackles and eight passes defended. The rookie will compete with Elijah Campbell for any leftover snaps at the safety position.
