The Steelers added a notable wide receiver to their taxi squad in Isaiah Hodgins. The wideout bounced between the Giants practice squad and active roster in 2024, but he’s not far removed from a stretch between 2022 and 2023 when he hauled in 58 catches for 622 yards and seven touchdowns. He’ll be joining a group of practice squad WRs that includes Rakim Jarrett and rookie Ke’Shawn Williams.
Speaking of the Giants, they added a veteran linebacker in Neville Hewitt. The 32-year-old has appeared in 146 games in time with the Dolphins, Jets, and Texans. His best season came with New York in 2020, when he compiled 134 tackles and a pair of sacks. He mostly saw a special teams role while in Houston, but he rebounded in 2024, tallying 59 tackles and a pair of forced fumbles in 17 games (four starts).

Ismail was one of 17 players to work out for the Giants on Thursday, per The Athletic’s Dan Duggan. He won the practice squad spot over more notable players like former Broncos safety Caden Sterns and former Browns quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Canadian quarterback Taylor Elgersma also attended the workout, per Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post, suggesting that the Giants might be looking for extra depth at the position.
Wallace worked out for the Vikings on Thursday, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. It must have gone well, as he was signed to the practice squad hours later as extra depth both in the secondary and on special teams.
Griffin returned to the Seahawks this offseason, eight years after they made him a third-round pick in the 2017 draft. He did not make Seattle’s 53-man roster, but as a vested veteran, he was able to re-sign to the practice squad without going through waivers.
Vikings Announce 10 Cuts To Open Roster Trimming
It’s been a busy day for the Minnesota front office. Amidst the chaos, the team announced the release of one veteran and waived 9 other players:
Released:
- OLB Cam Gill
Waived:
- OL Zack Bailey
- DT Travis Bell
- WR Silas Bolden
- T Logan Brown
- CB Keenan Garber
- WR Robert Lewis
- S Mishael Powell
- CB Reddy Steward
- RB Tre Stewart
Most of the focus in Minnesota will be on the quarterback shuffling that took place earlier in the day that saw Sam Howell and Brett Rypien depart the building as Carson Wentz was signed to back up a debuting J.J. McCarthy with undrafted standout Max Brosmer stepping into the QB3 role.
Aside from all of that action, there’s not much surprise in the announced cuts above. While Gill has earned extended looks with a couple teams, Bailey, Bell, and Steward have played minimal roles during their short NFL tenures. The remaining six players waived were all members of the Vikings’ 19-man undrafted free agent class. Several others from that class can be expected to join these six on the waiver wire before Tuesday.
Vikings Sign 19 UDFAs
The Vikings owned the NFL’s smallest draft class with only five selections this year, so naturally, they added a good amount of undrafted free agents to form a 24-man rookie class. Here are the 19 UDFAs the team signed:
- Tyler Batty, OLB (BYU)
- Silas Bolden, WR (Texas)
- Max Brosmer, QB (Minnesota)(post)
- Logan Brown, T (Kansas)
- Chaz Chambliss, OLB (Georgia)
- Oscar Chapman, P (Auburn)
- Zeke Correll, C (NC State)
- Dontae Fleming, WR (Tulane)
- Keenan Garber, CB (Kansas State)
- Joe Huber, G (Wisconsin)
- Austin Keys, LB (Auburn)
- Robert Lewis, WR (Auburn)
- Dorian Mausi, LB (Auburn)
- Bryson Nesbit, TE (North Carolina)
- Mishael Powell, S (Miami)
- Tre Stewart, RB (Jacksonville State)
- Zemaiah Vaughn, CB (Utah)
- Alex Williams, DE (Middle Tennessee State)
- Ben Yurosek, TE (Georgia)
An undersized runner, Stewart had an incredible year for the Gamecocks. In fact, with 1,678 rushing yards and 25 rushing touchdowns in 2024, Stewart joined top ten pick Ashton Jeanty as the only two FBS backs with over 1,600 yards and 25 scores on the ground.
After two strong years at Oregon State, Bolden wasn’t very productive as a receiver for the Longhorns. He was extremely productive, though, as a punt returner, notching 315 yards on 30 returns and scoring a touchdown. His return abilities netted him $205K in guaranteed money on his UDFA contract, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Brown is a surprising get post-draft, considering he was projected to be an early-Day 3 selection. Likely a significant injury history kept him available to this point. Huber was another likely Day 3 selection. He started 13 games at right tackle at Cincinnati before transferring and shifting inside. He started as left guard in 2023 and right guard in 2024 for the Badgers. Despite only playing offensive line since 2019, Huber’s versatility was able to net him $210K guaranteed on his UDFA deal, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2.
Chambliss was impressive in his final season at Georgia with 6.5 sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss, but his route to a 53-man roster will likely have to come through special teams contributions. Impressive length and production should give Vaughn a chance at the opening day roster. In five years at Utah (one redshirt season), Vaughn tallied 27 passes defensed, three interceptions, three sacks, and 14.0 tackles for loss.
