Cowboys To Make Three UFL Signings, Place OL Matt Hennessy On IR
The Cowboys canceled their final minicamp practice on Thursday. That did not stop the team from making a number of roster moves.
A trio of signings have been lined up, ESPN’s Todd Archer reports. All three players recently wrapped up their respective UFL campaigns. Receiver Denzel Mims and cornerback Ameer Speed are being signed, while the previously reported deal for offensive lineman Chris Glaser will become official.
Three corresponding moves will be made. Matt Hennessy will be moved to injured reserve, ensuring he will miss the entire 2026 season barring an injury settlement. The veteran offensive lineman recently underwent neck surgery; instead of spending time on the PUP list during training camp, he will focus on a lengthy recovery process. Per Archer, cornerback Corey Ballentine and receiver Romello Brinson will be released to make room for the new arrivals.
Mims entered the NFL as a second-round pick of the Jets in 2020. Across three seasons in New York, he was unable to develop as hoped. Mims wound up being traded to the Lions during the summer of 2023, although he was quickly waived. The 28-year-old bounced around to Pittsburgh and Jacksonville, but he did not make any regular-season appearances with either team.
Speed, 26, has seen game action with four different NFL teams to date. That includes a pair of appearances with the Texans in 2025 prior to his run in the UFL this spring. He has experience on special teams, something which will no doubt represent his best path to a roster spot this summer. Glazer – who has made one NFL start to date among his eight games played – will look to replace Hennessy as a depth option along the interior of the O-line.
Ballentine finished 2025 in Dallas and re-signed with the team in March. His one-year pact carried a cap charge of $1.08MM but it contained no guarantees. The Cowboys will not take on any dead money as a result. The same is also true of Brinson, who went undrafted this year and joined Dallas at the start of June following a brief spell in Miami.
As Archer notes, these moves leave the Cowboys with one open roster spot ahead of training camp. The team will head into the summer break with roughly $5.6MM in cap space.

The Colts appear to be trending towards ending Phillip Rivers‘ comeback story and opting for Riley Leonard as their Week 18 starter at QB. The team started the process today by adding an extra signal-caller to the practice squad in Seth Henigan. The Memphis product spent the preseason in Jacksonville, and he spent about a month on the Jaguars practice squad before earning his walking papers.

A day after placing starting center Luke Wattenberg on injured reserve and commending backup Alex Forsyth for starting in his place, Denver adds a bit more depth and experience at the position. Forsyth, a seventh-round pick out of Oregon last year, has only five starts in his first two years of play, but the team seemed to think he filled in well during yesterday’s victory of over the Chiefs. Mustipher, once a full-time starter in Chicago, should add depth and a potential starting option in case Forsyth’s inexperience starts to show.
Williams is being elevated for the third and final time by the Chargers this season. If Los Angeles wants to see him play in another game this season, they’ll need to sign the veteran safety to the 53-man roster.

The Browns reached an injury settlement with Speed, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2. The team placed Speed on IR with an undisclosed injury on Wednesday. The former Colt, Patriot, and Bear hasn’t appeared in a game this year.
Jones is returning to the Saints just two days after they released him. The 28-year-old has played in all five of New Orleans’ games this season and amassed 76 snaps (74 on special teams). While Jones hasn’t been a factor on offense, he has averaged 22.8 yards per kickoff return on eight tries.
This has been a multi-transaction day for White, whom the Seahawks released and then quickly re-signed to their practice squad. White totaled 11 snaps (five on offense, six on special teams) during a Week 1 loss to the 49ers and hasn’t played since.

Ojemudia is returning to the NFL after playing for the UFL’s DC Defenders in the spring, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. After starting 11 games for the Broncos as a rookie in 2020, he struggled with injuries and hasn’t played in the regular season since 2022.. The 27-year-old will add depth to a Cowboys cornerback room that isn’t expecting Trevon Diggs or Shavon Revel back until September. Second-year corner Caelen Carson is also dealing with a knee injury, so Ojemudia could get some snaps in Dallas’ last preseason game on Friday. A 53-man roster spot is unlikely given how late he signed with the team, but a strong first week could keep him in contention for the practice squad.
Winfree, a five-year veteran, will land with his fourth NFL team after a workout in Houston. The Texans also worked out former Chiefs wideout Cornell Powell, according to KRPC2’s Aaron Wilson.
Freeland, a 2023 fourth-round pick, started nine games as a rookie and spent 2024 as the Colts’ swing tackle. He will be out for the season with a fractured leg, per Colts.com writer JJ Stankevitz, as will Phillips (bicep), who hasn’t played in the regular season since 2022. Wohler sustained a Lisfranc injury, according to Joel Erickson of the Indianapolis Star. The seventh-round safety will miss his rookie year after appearing to carve out a role in the Colts defense with an impressive preseason.
