The Texans are bringing Wright on as an emergency option as regular kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn works through an injury. Wright has plenty of experience in this role as this will be his fourth team this year alone.
Titans Designate T’Vondre Sweat For Return
The Titans have opened mammoth defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat practice window, per Terry McCormick of TitanInsider.com. The team will have 21 days to activate Sweat from injured reserve.

A second-round pick from Texas in 2024, Sweat appeared in all 17 games for the Titans and started 16 as a rookie. Sweat ranked seventh on the Titans’ defense in snaps (699) and collected 51 tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble during a standout debut campaign next to three-time Pro Bowler Jeffrey Simmons.
While Sweat enjoyed a healthy first season in the NFL, he has only played in one game this year – a Week 1 loss to the Broncos. The 24-year-old suffered an ankle injury in that contest. Sweat had been working toward a return ahead of Week 3, but after he re-injured his ankle, the Titans put him on IR on Sept. 20.
Having missed four games since the Titans placed him on the shelf, Sweat is eligible to return Sunday against the Patriots for interim head coach Mike McCoy‘s debut on the job. It’s unclear if Sweat will be ready by then.
Even though Sweat has been out for most of the season, Simmons has continued to dominate. He has posted an 87% snap share and picked up 4.5 sacks, serving as a rare bright spot during a 1-5 start for the Titans. James Lynch and Shy Tuttle trail behind him in the pecking order at defensive tackle. Those two figure to lose playing time when Sweat comes back.
Along with welcoming Sweat back to practice on Wednesday, the Titans re-signed cornerback Alex Johnson to their practice squad. They previously released him from their P-squad on Oct. 7.

Waived/injured:
- K Maddux Trujillo
Placed on IR (designated for return):
Jaylon Carlies will be forced to miss at least the first four games of the upcoming season, but it sounds like it should be a minimum stay on IR for the linebacker. According to Joel A. Erickson of the Indy Star, Carlies should only require a short stint on injured reserve as he recovers from an ankle injury. The 2024 fifth-round pick started six of his 10 appearances for the Colts last season, collecting 36 tackles and one sack.
While he’s not the biggest name from the list of cuts, linebacker Austin Ajiake was waived in a bit of a surprising move. As Erickson notes, the former UDFA spent significant time with the second-team unit during the preseason, and he even got some reps with the first team. A UNLV product, Ajiake has also had stints with the Broncos, Raiders, and Packers. He spent the entire 2024 campaign on Indy’s taxi squad.

The Broncos are bringing in the veteran running back Ahmed after he spent four years in Miami. Ahmed’s biggest role came in four starts as an undrafted rookie back in 2020 in which he rushed for 319 yards and three touchdowns over six games. He served as a reliable backup for the Dolphins for the past few years.
The Chargers released Jefferson yesterday, but they’ll keep him around on the practice squad with today’s signing. The veteran adds some quality depth to the roster.

Placed on season-ending IR:
Placed on IR/return:
Just as the NFL greenlit a full-on kickoff revamp, McKenzie is out of the picture in New York. Signing with the Giants this year and completing a reunion with ex-Bills staffers Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll, McKenzie has been a return man and slot receiver for seven seasons. This transaction, unlike the Adams designation, will knock the 5-foot-7 cog out for the year. McKenzie only received $75K guaranteed.
McKenzie joins Hodgins among the players not currently in the mix for the team. The Giants received good value from the former waiver claim, who was a Bills teammate of McKenzie’s under Daboll earlier his career. They brought him back after non-tendering him as an RFA in March, and he and Robinson were battling for back-end receiver jobs. The Giants kept Bryce Ford-Wheaton, a 2023 UDFA, over Hodgins. Considering Hodgins’ past with Daboll, it would not surprise to see New York circle back with a potential practice squad invite. Though, the fifth-year veteran might have other options.
Beavers was viewed as a potential inside linebacker starter in 2023, but Micah McFadden ended up beating out the former sixth-round pick. Beavers played in only two games last season. Cager also was considered a contender to be one of the Giants’ receiving tight ends, but the converted wideout fell short. Daniel Bellinger and fourth-round rookie Theo Johnson are leading the way post-Darren Waller.
