Released:
Waived:
- QB Jack Plummer
- QB Bryce Perkins
- RB Emani Bailey
- RB Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams

The Wright release leaves rookie UDFA Ryan Fitzgerald as the only kicker on Carolina’s roster. Making a career as a fill-in kicker (save for a full-season 2022 Jaguars stop), Wright has kicked for six teams in games. This was the veteran specialist’s second Panthers stop; he filled in for Eddy Pineiro for a game during the 2023 season.
The Panthers did not re-sign Pineiro this offseason; as of now, they are planning to go with Fitzgerald, a Florida State alum part of the team’s priority free agent class this year. Dave Canales said recently the Panthers were still looking around at kicker. They are a team to watch regarding a late addition — via the waiver wire or free agency. It should be noted Pineiro, the Panthers’ three-year option who is the third-most accurate kicker in NFL history, remains available.
Perkins and Plummer brought the Panthers’ QB count to four; now, only Bryce Young and Andy Dalton are rostered. One of the QBs figures to receive a look for the practice squad, but the Panthers will have other options to look at as P-squad candidates following the other 31 teams’ cuts. Teams are seeing an early preview of who will be available today, as dozens are being released around the league. Perkins only signed with the Panthers last week; Plummer spent most of last season on Carolina’s practice squad, making him a more realistic candidate to land there.

Demercado has taken a backseat to Florida State third-round rookie Trey Benson, but he has averaged 9.3 yards per carry on 24 carries this year. Palardy will take over punting duties with Gillikin landing on injured reserve.
Jackson signed with Bills in late July, and although he was among the team’s final roster cuts he was immediately retained via a practice squad deal. This elevation means Week 15 will mark his first time spent on the active roster this season. The 36-year-old has started all but 10 of his 203 NFL games, but last season was marred by suspensions which led to his Broncos release. Jackson could suit up for Buffalo down the stretch as a gameday elevation in a bid to rebuild his stock to a degree.
With the playoffs nearly out of reach and quarterback Joe Burrow dealing with a few ailments (wrist and knee), the Bengals don’t seem to be taking any chances. Jake Browning will continue serving as the primary backup, while Woodside’s promotion will allow him to act as the emergency backup.
Adams has seen his biggest NFL roles during his time in Pittsburgh. Though he hasn’t gotten the same number of starts as he had in 2022 and 2023, he’s continued the same level of production. After missing the last four games, he’ll be looking to return to the field as early as tomorrow.

NFL Practice Squad Updates: 11/7/24
Here are Thursday’s practice squad moves:
Carolina Panthers
- Signed: LB Jacoby Windmon
- Released: LB Chandler Wooten
Chicago Bears

Dallas Cowboys
- Signed: CB Andrew Booth
Philadelphia Eagles
- Signed: DE Tarron Jackson

San Francisco 49ers
- Signed: LB Jalen Graham
- Released: OL Dieter Eiselen
Booth has been unable to remain in the mix for two teams, being traded from the Vikings and now cut from the Cowboys’ 53-man roster. But Dallas will still attempt to develop the Clemson alum, bringing him back after he cleared waivers. The former second-round pick made a start for the Cowboys, after being traded straight up for fellow CB Nahshon Wright in August, but has only logged 38 defensive snaps in three games this season.

We don’t have a reason for Moreland’s suspension yet, but we know that it will last three weeks. He hasn’t played in the NFL since 2021, but if a team were to sign him, he wouldn’t be available for three games.
Minor NFL Transactions: 10/15/24

Arizona Cardinals

- Placed on IR: DT Bilal Nichols, K Matt Prater
Atlanta Falcons

- Placed on IR: S Micah Abernathy

Seattle Seahawks
- Placed on IR: CB Artie Burns
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Signed: WR Marquez Callaway
- Signed to active roster: CB Keenan Isaac
Tennessee Titans
- Signed to active roster: CB Tre Avery
Nichols is reportedly out for the season, per the Cardinals, but Prater could still return after an additional four-game absence. He’s already missed two games so far with a left knee issue. The 40-year-old was a perfect six-for-six on field goal attempts this year while 10-for-10 on extra points.
The Browns lose an important depth lineman in Harris. Harris started games at left tackle and center as an injury replacement this year, but he’ll be out for at least the next four games with an ankle injury.
Falcons head coach Raheem Morris reported that Abernathy will be out for a “significant time,” per D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Steelers Get Down To 53
The Steelers were able to get down to the required 53 players today with the following roster moves:
Released:
- RB La’Mical Perine
- RB Jonathan Ward
- WR Quez Watkins
Waived:
- RB Jack Colletto
- OL TyKeem Doss
- OL Joey Fisher
- WR Dez Fitzpatrick
- DB Zyon Gilbert
- DB Thomas Graham
- LB Marcus Haynes
- WR Jaray Jenkins
- LB Kyron Johnson
- QB John Rhys Plumlee
- DL Willington Previlon
- RB Aaron Shampklin
- DL Jacob Slade
- TE Matt Sokol
- LB Luquay Washington
- WR Duece Watts
- TE Rodney Williams
- LB Jacoby Windmon
Placed on IR:
- DB Ryan Watts
- LB Julius Welschof
Placed on IR (designated for return):
- OL Dylan Cook
- LB Jeremiah Moon
Placed on reserve/PUP list:
- LB Cole Holcomb
Holcomb, Cook, and Moon will be sitting out the first four games of 2024, at least. Watts is the only 2024 draft pick for Pittsburgh who will not be on the active roster to start the year. He and Welschof, one of only two of the team’s five undrafted free agent signees who weren’t waived by today, will miss the entire season.
West Virginia standout cornerback Beanie Bishop is the only undrafted rookie to make the 53-man roster. With Cameron Sutton starting out the year serving a suspension, Bishop could easily find his way into the starting nickelback role.
The Steelers are also coming into 2024 with a thin wide receiving corps. The only receivers on the active roster are George Pickens, Van Jefferson, rookie Roman Wilson, Scotty Miller, and Calvin Austin.
Latest On Steelers’ Depth At OLB
Outside linebacker is not a position of need for the Steelers. Star pass rusher T.J. Watt led the NFL last year with 19.0 sacks, and though the team’s other starter Alex Highsmith only notched seven last year, he showed what he’s capable of with a 14.5-sack campaign in 2022. Those two are going to be on the field a majority of the time, but after watching Watt miss the playoffs last year and seeing an aged Markus Golden depart in free agency, Pittsburgh has made a number of offseason moves to solidify their depth at the position.
Last year’s rookie fourth-round pick out of Wisconsin, Nick Herbig, is the only other edge rusher returning from last year’s roster. According to Mark Kaboly of The Athletic, Herbig is getting first dibs at the OLB3-role in 2024. In his first season of NFL play, Herbig saw less than a quarter of the snaps that Watt and Highsmith did but was up there in playing time with Golden. Despite the limited snaps, Herbig made the most of his time on the field, logging 27 tackles, five tackles for loss, three sacks, three quarterback hits, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery.
That means this year’s rookie third-round pick, NC State’s Payton Wilson, will not be the first outside linebacker off the bench in his first season. Wilson also wasn’t necessarily known as a pass rusher in Raleigh, so it might just mean that Herbig and Wilson will sport different roles in 2024. Herbig may be the first player off the bench in pass rushing situations, and Wilson may be the first guy in during rushing or drop back scenarios. Wilson is on the roster as an outside linebacker for the Steelers as Patrick Queen, Cole Holcomb, and Elandon Roberts patrol the middle. Wilson was disruptive in college, sporting 48.0 tackles for loss to his name, but only logged 15.0 sacks in that time. His versatility as a linebacker with seven career interceptions and 20 passes defensed in college mean that Wilson and Herbig could both be utilized off the bench equally but in very different situations.
Another offseason addition the team made was the claiming of former division-rival Jeremiah Moon off of waivers. A former undrafted player from Florida, Moon spent his entire rookie season on the practice squad for the Ravens but made one start in eight game appearances in 2023. Like Wilson, Moon has never been much of a pass rusher but was an effective tackler during his time in Gainesville.
Joining the position room as rookies alongside Wilson are undrafted signees Julius Welschof and Jacoby Windmon. Windmon, who saw time in college at UNLV and Michigan State, is more in the mold of Wilson and Moon. Welschof, who attended school at Michigan and Charlotte, is a former defensive lineman, though he wasn’t much of an established pass rusher in college.
While Golden only played 70 more snaps in the regular season than Herbig in 2023, when Watt was injured in the playoffs, that OLB3 role became huge. With Watt being no stranger to injury over the past two seasons, who will man that role going forward is an important distinction. As of right now, Herbig is getting the first opportunity to earn that role. He’ll likely hold onto that responsibility as the top pass rusher off the bench while Moon and the rookies fill more versatile roles on the defense in 2024.
Steelers Sign Five UDFAs
After adding seven players in the draft, the Steelers have added five more rookies to their roster. The team announced that they’ve signed five undrafted free agents:
- Beanie Bishop, CB (West Virginia)
- Daijun Edwards, RB (Georgia)
- John Rhys Plumlee, QB (Central Florida)
- Julius Welschof, LB (Charlotte)
- Jacoby Windmon, LB (Michigan State)
After adding one linebacker in the third round (NC State’s Payton Wilson), the Steelers have added another two players at the position. Jacoby Windmon is the more accomplished of the two UDFAs, with the linebacker collecting 119 tackles and 6.5 sacks with UNLV in 2021. However, he didn’t see nearly as big of a role after transferring to Michigan State in 2022, compiling 41 stops across two seasons with the team. Julius Welschof was a situational defensive lineman during his time at Michigan and Charlotte, and the Steelers are apparently looking to switch the prospect to a new position.
After three seasons of mostly sitting on the bench at Ole Miss, John Rhys Plumlee caught on with UCF as their starting QB between 2022 and 2023. He got into 23 games over the past two seasons, completing 63 percent of his passes for 4,857 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. He also added 1,367 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns on 265 carries. In Pittsburgh, he’ll learn from a pair of prolific runners (one former, one current) in Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.
