Ross’ new deal to the Texans’ 53-man roster is good through the 2025 season, as well. Ditto for Jones, signed to the active roster in New England today.
Sanders returned to practice this week, and his activation will allow him to close out his second Panthers season on the field rather than on the mend. His Carolina tenure has fallen well short of expectations and a release in the near future could be in the cards. Given the team’s backfield injuries, though, Sanders could handle a notable workload tomorrow while potentially auditioning for free agent suitors.
Gilman’s return will be welcomed by the Chargers’ defense. The 27-year-old has remained a full-time starter this season, his second straight handling first-team duties. Los Angeles is assured of a wild-card spot, but moving up to the No. 5 seed in the AFC playoff picture could be possible on Sunday. In any case, Gilman’s presence will be key for a Bolts defense which leads the league in points allowed per game (17.6).
Gardner’s campaign will come to an end after 15 games played. He fell short of a Pro Bowl nod for this first time in his young career, but the fourth pick of the 2022 draft remained a critical member of the team’s secondary when healthy. Gardner is eligible for an extension this offseason, and his financial future (which will include a fifth-year option decision in the spring) will be a key point of focus once New York’s head coach/general manager tandem is in place.

Demercado has taken a backseat to Florida State third-round rookie Trey Benson, but he has averaged 9.3 yards per carry on 24 carries this year. Palardy will take over punting duties with Gillikin landing on injured reserve.
Jackson signed with Bills in late July, and although he was among the team’s final roster cuts he was immediately retained via a practice squad deal. This elevation means Week 15 will mark his first time spent on the active roster this season. The 36-year-old has started all but 10 of his 203 NFL games, but last season was marred by suspensions which led to his Broncos release. Jackson could suit up for Buffalo down the stretch as a gameday elevation in a bid to rebuild his stock to a degree.
With the playoffs nearly out of reach and quarterback Joe Burrow dealing with a few ailments (wrist and knee), the Bengals don’t seem to be taking any chances. Jake Browning will continue serving as the primary backup, while Woodside’s promotion will allow him to act as the emergency backup.
Adams has seen his biggest NFL roles during his time in Pittsburgh. Though he hasn’t gotten the same number of starts as he had in 2022 and 2023, he’s continued the same level of production. After missing the last four games, he’ll be looking to return to the field as early as tomorrow.

NFL Practice Squad Updates: 10/2/24
Wednesday’s practice squad updates:
Arizona Cardinals
- Signed: K Chad Ryland
- Placed on IR: DL Angelo Blackson
Houston Texans
- Signed: LB Shaun Bradley
Los Angles Rams
- Signed: DB Cam Lampkin
New England Patriots
- Signed: OL Jerome Carvin, TE Jack Westover
San Francisco 49ers
- Signed: DL Jonathan Garvin, WR Terique Owens
- Released: DL Shakel Brown
The Cardinals have added some necessary kicker depth. Per Tyler Drake of AZSports, Matt Prater is dealing with a left knee issue, necessitating the addition of Chad Ryland. The former fourth-round pick spent his rookie campaign in New England, where he converted 16 of his 25 field goal attempts and 24 of his 25 XP tries. Ryland lost out on the Patriots kicking gig this season to Joey Slye, leading to him being among New England’s final cuts.
Seahawks Sign Tyus Bowser To PS; Cowboys, Titans Showed Interest
The Seahawks signed Tyus Bowser to their practice squad, according to Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times, reuniting the linebacker with head coach Mike Macdonald after the two spent several years together in Baltimore.
Bowser also worked out for the Titans and the Cowboys, per Pro Football Network’s Adam Caplan, but opted to join his former linebackers coach and defensive coordinator in Seattle. The Seahawks were in need of outside linebacker depth after Uchenna Nwosu suffered an MCL sprain in their final preseason game.
Bowser’s versatility and scheme knowledge fit well in Macdonald’s defensive system, but the 29-year-old will have to prove he can stay healthy to earn playing time. Bowser has only played in nine games since 2021 due to an Achilles tear in January 2022 and a knee injury in 2023 that kept him on the Non-Football Injury (NFI) list for the whole year before he was released. That injury is the subject of an ongoing grievance between Bowser and the Ravens over his compensation for last season.
The Seahawks will not have to rely on Bowser right away, either. Nwosu avoided being placed on injured reserve during final roster cutdowns, an optimistic sign that he should return to the field by Week 4. Seattle also has veteran Dre’Mont Jones and recent draft picks Boye Mafe and Derick Hall at outside linebacker. Shortly after Nwosu’s injury, the Seahawks acquired Trevis Gipson from the Jaguars on August 26. Gipson resides on the team’s 53-man roster.
Along with Bowser, the Seahawks also signed cornerback Faion Hicks to their practice squad, per Condotta. To make room, they released offensive lineman Garret Greenfield. The team also waived tight end Jack Westover with an injury settlement.

Waived/injured:
Placed on reserve/PUP list:
Injury trouble lingers for Lucas, who missed a chunk of last season because of an injury Pete Carroll labeled “chronic.” While the Seahawks’ new staff pushed back on that, the team’s right tackle starter is once again out of commission. Lucas, who started alongside Charles Cross as rookies in 2022, has started all 22 games he has played. But that only included six contests last year. Lucas must miss at least four games due to Tuesday’s designation. Lucas, who underwent knee surgery this offseason, also dealt with a shoulder issue heading into his second season.
The Seahawks brought back George Fant, who filled in as a Texans spot starter at RT last season. Fant’s presence becomes more important in light of this latest Lucas injury news. The player Fant was primarily competing with, Curtis, received cut notice today as well.
Macdonald and OC Ryan Grubb are not keeping Eskridge around, representing a miss for GM John Schneider. The Seahawks made Eskridge their top pick in the 2021 draft, which began in the second round due to the Jamal Adams trade. The Western Michigan alum has been unable to catch on. He has 17 career catches for 122 yards, with injuries intervening along the way. The Seahawks further addressed the issue by taking Jaxon Smith-Njigba in last year’s first round, but they have needed to devote considerable resources to stocking their WR positions.
Burns figures to be a candidate to come back soon, via ESPN.com’s Brady Henderson, who notes the former first-rounder enjoyed a good training camp and worked as the team’s starting slot corner at points. The Seahawks also cut one of the players they just acquired in a trade. Barrett, obtained from the Panthers, could be kept on the practice squad if he clears waivers Wednesday.
Seahawks Sign 16 UDFAs
The Seahawks front office has had a busy week. In addition to signing first-round defensive tackle Byron Murphy to his rookie contract, the organization has added 16 undrafted rookies to the roster:
- Sunny Anderson, LB (Grambling State)
- Nelson Ceaser, DL (Houston)
- Chevan Cordeiro, QB (San Jose State)
- Easton Gibbs, LB (Wyoming)
- Garret Greenfield, OT (South Dakota State)
- Hayden Hatten, WR (Idaho)
- George Holani, RB (Boise State)
- Carlton Johnson, CB (Fresno State)
- DeVere Levelston, DE (SMU)
- Kobe Lewis, RB (Florida Atlantic)
- Mike Novitsky, C (Kansas)
- Ro Torrence, CB (Arizona State)
- Jack Westover, TE (Washington)
- Dee Williams, WR (Tennessee)
- Rason Williams II, LB (Louisiana Tech)
- TaMerik Williams, RB (North Dakota State)
A handful of Seattle’s UDFAs earned notable bonuses. After compiling 2,993 yards and 21 touchdowns at Boise State over the past three years, running back George Holani got a $15K signing bonus and $100K of his base salary guaranteed, per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. Elsewhere on offense, Jack Westover earned a $25K signing bonus and $50K guaranteed on his salary, per Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston. The Washington tight end was a productive member of the offense over the past two years, hauling in 77 catches for 775 yards and five touchdowns. South Dakota State offensive lineman Garret Greenfield got the most guaranteed money of the bunch. Wilson notes that the rookie got $195K in guaranteed money, including a $20K signing bonus.
On the other side of the ball, the Seahawks paid of a pair of undrafted defensive linemen. After collecting 17 sacks and 27.5 tackles for loss in three seasons at Houston, Nelson Ceaser got $110K guaranteed, including a $10K signing bonus, per ESPN’s Brady Henderson. Grambling State’s Sunny Anderson got the same guarantees to catch on with Seattle, per Wilson.
