Jaguars Sign CB Dane Jackson, OL Trystan Colon; CB Keith Taylor Placed On IR

The Jaguars have added a pair of veterans ahead of minicamp. Cornerback Dane Jackson and offensive lineman Trystan Colon have been signed, the team announced on Thursday.

In corresponding moves, cornerback Keith Taylor has been placed on injured reserve while offensive lineman Sal Wormley has been waived (meaning he will hit the wire before becoming a free agent if unclaimed). Players moved to IR at this stage of the offseason are guaranteed to miss the entire campaign, so today’s news is a major blow for Taylor. Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union reports the veteran recently suffered a pectoral tear while weightlifting.

Jackson was one of several members of Buffalo’s secondary who was released in March. Being cut brought an end to his second Bills stint; the six-year veteran has played five totals seasons with the team. A one-year run with the Panthers which did not go according to plan preceded Jackson’s Buffalo return for 2025. The 29-year-old will look to provide an injury replacement for Taylor and offer Jacksonville with depth in the secondary.

Colon saw sparse usage across a three-year Ravens stint to begin his career. The former undrafted free agent then spent a pair of seasons in Arizona, totaling 11 starts. Colon was with the Lions for 2025 and made 12 appearances (including four starts) as Detroit worked through a number of injuries up front. He has seen over 300 snaps at center along with both guard positions over the course of his career. A depth role on the interior will be sought out this summer.

Jacksonville entered Thursday with roughly $9.5MM in cap space. The additions of Jackson and Colon can be expected to check in at or near the veteran minimum. Further roster shuffling in advance of training camp – along with mandatory minicamp, which will run from June 15-17 – should be possible as a result.

Jaguars Sign RB Ameer Abdullah

Ameer Abdullah has lined up his next gig. The journeyman running back signed with the Jaguars on Monday, per a team announcement.

Abdullah has seen playing time with five different teams over the years. He will now look to carve out a role on a sixth during offseason work in Jacksonville. A special teams role will no doubt represent his path to a roster spot.

The Jags lost Travis Etienne during free agency, bringing in Chris Rodriguez on the open market. Deejay Dallas – another veteran heavy on special teams experience – was re-signed. Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen are also in place, giving Jacksonville plenty of options in the backfield. 2025 undrafted free agent Ja’Quinden Jackson has been waived as a corresponding move to the Abdullah signing.

Residing in the NFC North during the early stages of his career, Abdullah split most of his time from 2015-21 between the Lions and Vikings. He was in Carolina to close out the 2021 campaign. That was followed by three years as a Raider and then one with the Colts. Abdullah, 33 next month, has not handled a heavy rushing workload in any time recently, but he has contributed in the passing game and on special teams. That will be expected to remain the case in 2026 he if survives roster cuts in Jacksonville.

On Monday, the Jags also announced they have re-signed offensive lineman Sal Wormley. His return resulted in fellow O-lineman Jordan White being placed on injured reserve in a corresponding move. As noted by Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union, White was absent from rookie minicamp despite having recently signed as an undrafted free agent. The injury will end his Jaguars tenure before it begins.

Los Angeles Chargers

  • Waived: DL Josh Fuga, CB Jordan Oladokun

New Orleans Saints

New York Giants

New York Jets

  • Waived: C Gus Hartwig (failed physical)
  • Waived/injured: S Chris Smith

The Bears surprised many today when they moved on from 2025 fifth-round pick Zah Frazier. The six-foot-three cornerback sat out his entire rookie campaign for what the team described as a “personal reason,” leading to his placement on the non-football injury list. As Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun Times notes, GM Ryan Poles recently acknowledged that the player had a “mountain to climb” if he hoped to contribute in 2026, with the executive adding that Frazier “needed to play” last year. Now, the defensive back will have to make his NFL debut elsewhere.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals received a roster exemption today for international player Valentin Senn. The former Austrian prospect will be auditioning for a spot on Arizona’s offensive line. The Jets also got a roster exemption for Paschal Ekeji. The former rugby player will be competing for a spot on the Jets defensive line.

Jaguars Work Roster Down To 53

Here are the transactions that set the initial 53-man roster for the Jaguars’ new rookie head coach/general manager duo in 2025:

The placement of Ransaw on injured reserve is definitely a shock. The third-round rookie out of Tulane switched from cornerback to safety in Jacksonville and was in a crowded group of defenders vying for a roster spot. Even though Ransaw was working through a lower-body injury throughout training camp, he was still expected to make the 53-man roster. Instead, his rookie season is over before it got a chance to begin. His placement on IR also didn’t end up helping Thomas or Silmon-Craig, who were both in that group pushing for the active roster.

Sixth-round pick McLeod also found his way to an injured list, but unlike Ransaw, McLeod will be able to return at some point into the season, after missing at least four games. He’s also dealing with a nondescript lower-body injury.

This cut day was a rough one for the 2024 NFL Draft class in Jacksonville. Cole, Foster, Jefferson, and Prince were all taken in last year’s class and have been waived before their sophomore campaigns. Muma and Lacy are other recent draft picks that new general manager James Gladstone didn’t keep around.

Jaguars Bring In 20 UDFAs

The Jaguars are the latest team to announce their UDFA haul. Here is Jacksonville’s 20-man contingent of post-draft signees:

Striggow is joining the Jaguars for a hefty guarantee. The AFC South team is giving the Big Ten product $254K guaranteed, KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson tweets. That is certainly on the higher end for UDFAs, but Striggow was productive as a pass rusher over the past two seasons for the Golden Gophers. He combined to reach 11 sacks in that span, accumulating 13 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles during his final two seasons in Minneapolis as well.

Wormley will receive a $110K guarantee to sign, Wilson adds. This covers a $100K base salary guarantee and a $10K signing bonus. A Nittany Lion going almost as far back as the Saquon Barkley days, Wormley started three seasons as the team’s right guard. Playing six seasons at Penn State, Wormley made 42 starts. This included 16 made during the Nittany Lions’ 2024 season, which ended in the CFP semifinals. The Jags also drafted a guard, West Virginia’s Wyatt Millum, in Round 3.

Dane Brugler’s The Athletic big board placed Henigan 14th among QBs, while ESPN’s Scouts Inc. slotted him 15th at the position. Henigan started four years for Memphis; although the American Athletic Conference has not been around too long, the 6-foot-3 QB leaves as the league’s all-time passing leader (14,266). This worked out to between 3,300 and 3,900 passing yards each season, and Henigan threw 32 TD passes as a junior in 2023. He finished with a 104-31 TD:INT ratio. He will join a QB depth chart housing Trevor Lawrence, Nick Mullens and John Wolford.

Scouts Inc. ranked Downs as the top prospect in this Jags UDFA group, slotting him 286th in the 2025 class. A two-time second-team All-Big 12 selection, Downs produced 30 TFLs from 2022-24. He added 12 sacks in that time. He comes to Jacksonville having not used his fifth year of college eligibility, which is now atypical for NFL UDFAs in the post-COVID era.
