Marquise Goodwin Walking Away? Bills Meet With Buckeyes
- Bills receiver Marquise Goodwin seemingly tweeted Friday that he was done with the team and then insisted it’s not an April Fools’ joke, as Ron Clements of the Sporting News writes. The Bills haven’t released Goodwin. Instead, he plans to dedicate his time and training to the upcoming Olympics, per Clements. Goodwin, twice an NCAA long jump champion at Texas, was part of the 2012 Olympics as a long jumper for the U.S. team. Since the Bills chose Goodwin in the third round of the 2012 draft, he has appeared in just 24 of 48 regular-season games and amassed 20 receptions and three touchdowns. Goodwin, 25, has one year and $675K left on his contract.
- In other Bills news, team brass dined with six Ohio State prospects on Thursday, according to Peter Schrager of FOX Sports (on Twitter). Quarterback Cardale Jones, outside linebacker Darron Lee, cornerback Eli Apple, defensive end Adolphus Washington, offensive tackle Taylor Decker, and free safety Vonn Bell all met with a Buffalo contingent.
Bruce Carter Visiting Bills
- After meeting with the Lions and Jets earlier this week, free agent linebacker Bruce Carter is visiting the Bills today, tweets Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. Buffalo doesn’t have a ton of cap flexibility, but it appears unlikely that Carter will require much more than a minimum salary deal.
BIlls Announce Coaching Changes
- The Bills announced that they have promoted two assistant coaches on offense. Pat Meyer has gone from football operations consultant to offensive assistant while Jason Vrable has been elevated from offensive quality control coach to the team’s assistant quarterbacks coach.
Bills To Host Antonio Morrison On Visit
- Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg went to dinner with the Cowboys on Tuesday and worked out for them on Wednesday, Albert Breer of NFL.com tweets. The signal caller also spent time with the Bills after the pro day, Breer adds.
- The Bills will host Florida inside linebacker Antonio Morrison on a pre-draft visit, according to Joe Buscaglia of WKBW (on Twitter).
Bills Looking At Ngakoue, Ragland
- Maryland outside linebacker Yannick Ngakoue said he has visits scheduled with the Jaguars, Eagles, Titans, and Jets, according to Daniel Gallen of The Baltimore Sun (on Twitter). Tony Pauline of DraftInsider.net (on Twitter) adds that the Bills and Browns both met with him today.
- Alabama linebacker Reggie Ragland told SiriusXM NFL Radio (on Twitter) that he has probably heard the most from the Bears, Falcons, Saints, and Dolphins. He also confirmed personal workouts with the Bears, Colts, Ravens, Jaguars, Vikings, Rams, and the Bills.
Percy Harvin To Play In 2016
Percy Harvin will “definitely” play in 2016, a source with knowledge of the situation tells Mike Florio of PFT. The wide receiver has been contemplating retirement this offseason.
Harvin joined the Bills on a one-year, $6MM deal in March, but was unable to stay healthy last year. Battling through a persistent hip injury, the 27-year-old (28 in May) only appeared in five games, recording 19 catches for 218 yards and a touchdown. Harvin also fielded five kick returns.
The wide receiver is now a free agent and it’s not a slam dunk that he’ll return to Buffalo, despite his relationship with coach Rex Ryan. Harvin knows this is his last opportunity to have a major impact in the NFL, the source tells PFT, and that could mean that Harvin is looking to hook on with a certified contender. While the Bills could be a factor in 2016, Harvin could look to play with an offense and a quarterback that better suits his skill set.
Harvin was traded from the Seahawks to the Jets in the most surprising in-season trade of 2014. However, Harvin failed to have a huge impact in New York thanks to his hip and knee injuries, totaling 29 receptions for 350 yards and a touchdown in his eight games with the Jets. Harvin also averaged just 24.8 yards per kick return, with no TDs. Roughly one year ago today, Harvin turned down a lucrative offer from the 49ers to join up with Buffalo.

Ryan Confident Bills Will Replenish Depth Through Draft
In an interview with NFL Network this week, Bills head coach Rex Ryan admitted that his roster isn’t particularly deep at several positions. As Mike Rodak of ESPN.com details, though, Ryan is confident that Buffalo will be able to replenish those spots in the draft.
“We don’t have a whole lot of depth right now, so we’re going to have to do a great job in the draft, which we will,” Ryan said. “[Bills GM] Doug Whaley is an outstanding evaluator of talent. We have to hit in the draft, there is no doubt, but I think there are some opportunities there to help us.”
