New England Patriots

Players let go through injury settlements are open to return to their previous teams after an agreed-upon period of time. Jones could therefore return to the Cardinals’ backfield later on in 2024, after he played three games with the team last year. The 26-year-old has also seen time with the Saints and Seahawks, logging a rotational role while contributing on special teams.
Like Jones, Anderson (who missed time last year with malaria) will be able to sign with any interested team if he does not return to New England. The latter made five appearances with New England last season, starting twice. He was one of several players competing for a spot on the Patriots’ uncertain tackle depth chart until being placed on injured reserve during final roster cutdowns. A Broncos blocker from 2020-22, Anderson has 14 total starts to his name and could provide a depth option to his next team once healthy.

Damien Wilson‘s second stint with the Cowboys has ended without him getting into a game. The veteran linebacker caught on with Dallas’s practice squad back in January and re-signed with the organization in April, but he won’t make it to Week 1 with the squad. The former fourth-round pick started his career with the Cowboys, collecting 121 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 64 games (22 starts). That was followed by a two-year stint with the Chiefs before one-year stops with the Jaguars and Panthers. Wilson didn’t end up getting into a regular season game during the 2023 campaign.
Albert Huggins is coming off a career year in Atlanta where he collected 22 tackles in 13 games (five starts). The 27-year-old waited until early August to catch on with the Cowboys, but he didn’t end up earning a spot on the team’s initial 53-man roster. Considering his journeyman status, there’s a chance the defensive lineman sticks around on Dallas’s practice squad.
Cowboys Sign Mazi Smith, Rest Of Draft Class To Rookie Deals
With their rookie minicamp set to begin tomorrow, the Cowboys have signed their entire draft class. The team announced that they’ve officially inked all eight of their draft picks to rookie contracts, including first-round defensive tackle Mazi Smith.
While many assumed the Cowboys would use their first-round pick on a tight end, they ended up pivoting to the defensive side of the ball. Smith was a worthy pick; the Michigan product finished his 2022 campaign with 48 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and a half-sack en route to All-Big Ten honors.
There were some questions surrounding his consistency heading into the draft, but his size and speed made him a surefire first- or second-round pick. Fortunately for Dallas, they won’t need Smith to be a contributor right away. He’ll find himself in the mix with Johnathan Hankins and Osa Odighizuwa on the DT depth chart, but he could also earn some playing time at defensive end.
We heard earlier today that the Cowboys inked second-round tight end Luke Schoonmaker to his rookie deal. The rest of the team’s draft class includes:

Cowboys Trade For No. 178, Pick CB CB Eric Scott Jr.
The Cowboys have made a move to get atop the sixth round. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero (on Twitter), Dallas has acquired pick No. 178 from Kansas City. In exchange, the Chiefs got a 2024 fifth-round pick.
The pick proved to be one of the more well-traveled selections in the 2023 draft. The selection was initially a Bears pick that was sent to the Dolphins in the Jakeem Grant trade. Miami later traded the pick to Kansas City in the Tyreek Hill deal, and then the Chiefs finally sent off the pick to Dallas.
The Cowboys have used their acquired pick to select Southern Mississippi cornerback CB Eric Scott Jr..
The defensive back got into 31 games for Southern Miss over the past three seasons, collecting five interceptions. That included a 2022 campaign where he compiled 27 tackles and a pair of pick-sixes. His play-making ability should afford him a good look in the Cowboys secondary.
