Raiders Release DE Charles Snowden

In a flurry of moves following their second day of rookie minicamp, the Raiders released veteran defensive end Charles Snowden. Along with Snowden, the team waived offensive guards McClendon Curtis and Layden Robinson and recently signed undrafted free agent tight end Matt Lauter out of Boise State. It appears the four players were moved to make room for four undrafted players at the rookie minicamp for a tryout, Cincinnati tight end Patrick Gurd, Queens (CAN) offensive tackle Niklas Henning, UTSA offensive tackle Kamar Missouri, and Utah Tech safety Devyn Perkins.

Snowden started off as an undrafted free agent himself. In a COVID-shortened 2020 season, Snowden’s senior year was cut even shorter when he suffered a broken ankle in a cupcake game against Abilene Christian. Through only eight games, he had already recorded a career-high six sacks and 10 tackles for loss. In a normal season, his performance would’ve been on track for a breakout year, but ultimately, aside from second-team All-ACC honors, the end of his collegiate career ended up hurting his prospects for the NFL.

After going undrafted, Snowden signed with the Bears as an UDFA, landing on the practice squad after he failed to make the initial 53-man roster. He did get called up for two games but mostly played special teams with minimal snaps on defense. Over the next two years, Snowden spent offseasons with the Bears, Buccaneers, and Raiders without appearing in a single regular season game. Once landing in Vegas, though, he stopped moving around and was able to establish himself on the roster.

In 2024, Snowden made nine starts while playing in 16 contests. He didn’t prove too effective as a pass rusher but showed promise defending against the run. Given similar opportunities this past season (nine starts in 15 games), he was a bit more disruptive of a pass rusher, factoring solidly into the team’s rotation on the edge. Snowden had been playing on one-year deals for Vegas each season, so it was fairly easy to let him go from his current deal.

Robinson was a near full-time starter for the Patriots just two years ago, logging 11 starts in 13 games played with the team. After starting last year on injured reserve in New England, Robinson was waived in mid-October and signed to the Raiders practice squad after clearing waivers. He didn’t appear in any games but signed a reserve/futures deal to stay. After starting as an UDFA signing for the Raiders in 2023, Curtis spent two years in Seattle as a depth piece on the offensive line. He bounced around to taxi squads with the Cardinals and Giants before landing back with the Raiders just before Robinson.

It’s not a common move to see a team make during rookie minicamps, especially when three of the players cut are not in attendance, but clearly the Raiders felt the need to see more from Gurd, Henning, Missouri, and Perkins than they were going to be able to in just three days. Vegas may have made handshake agreements to pick up any of the other four in the near future, or their time with the team may be over. Snowden is available to sign anywhere at anytime, but the other three will have to clear waivers before getting that same free will.

Minor NFL Transactions: 4/7/26

Several teams made minor moves Tuesday. Here’s a look:

Arizona Cardinals

Atlanta Falcons

Cincinnati Bengals

Las Vegas Raiders

New York Giants

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

A four-year veteran, Meredith logged a career-high 11 starts in 13 appearances in 2025. Meredith played center and right guard (mostly the former) before landing on IR with an ankle injury in late December. The Raiders have since added blockbuster free agent pickup Tyler Linderbaum, meaning Meredith will not factor in at center in 2026. He could, however, compete for one of the Raiders’ guard jobs.

After a year in Atlanta, Sills is staying in the NFC South on a deal with the Buccaneers. With 36 targets, 18 catches, 191 yards and two touchdowns in 17 games last season, Sills set across-the-board career highs. The 29-year-old finished third among Falcons receivers in offensive snap share (51.55%). He will now attempt to carve out a role on a Bucs team that lost franchise icon Mike Evans to the 49ers in free agency and has not re-signed Sterling Shepard. Tampa Bay still has Emeka Egbuka, Chris Godwin, Jalen McMillan and Tez Johnson as its top four receivers.

Carolina has tendered Mays with an original-round tender worth $3.26MM. A former sixth-round draft pick, the third-year center will be able field offers from the rest of the league. If an offer comes in, the Panthers would have the chance to match it or let the team sign Mays in exchange for a sixth-round pick. Mays started eight games in 11 appearances last year.

Houston flashed early, particularly when he tallied eight sacks in seven games (only two starts) for the Lions as a rookie. Since then, injuries and inconsistency have kept him from sticking in Detroit or Cleveland.

Raiders’ Charles Snowden Arrested For DUI

Charles Snowden is facing a DUI charge. The Raiders defensive end was arrested early Tuesday morning and booked into the Clark County Detention Center, as detailed by David Charns of 8 News Now.

Snowden was released shortly thereafter, court records show. He does not have an arraignment scheduled at this time, and a hearing for a status check on his arresting document is set to take place in April.

“The Raiders are aware of the incident involving Charles Snowden and have been in contact with the NFL and local authorities,” a team statement reads (h/t Vic Tafur of The Athletic). “The club will not comment further as this is a legal matter.”

A former UDFA, Snowden made a pair of appearances with the Bears in 2021 before seeing a lengthy spell between regular season NFL appearances. He joined the Raiders’ practice squad last December but did not see any game time. Vegas waived Snowden during roster cutdowns this August, but he was immediately retained on the team’s practice squad.

The Raiders have been shorthanded along the edge in 2024, something highlighted by Malcolm Koonce missing the entire campaign due to a knee injury. His absence has opened the door to other contributors as complementary options to Maxx CrosbySnowden has been one of the players who has seen a notable workload as a result, appearing in all 13 games so far this year and making seven starts. The 26-year-old has logged a 36% defensive snap share, totaling 30 tackles and 1.5 sacks.

It remains to be seen how the Raiders will proceed in the wake of Snowden’s misdemeanor charge. He is currently on track to become an exclusive-rights restricted free agent this offseason, but a decision on the team’s part to move on would leave him available to interested teams via the waiver wire.

Peterman’s exit leaves two quarterbacks — the two that vied for the starting gig (Gardner Minshew, Aidan O’Connell) — on their 53-man roster. Peterman, however, has been quite resilient in his career. The Bears dropped him last year only to circle back via a practice squad invite. The eighth-year passer also has an extensive past with the Raiders, who rostered him for much of Jon Gruden‘s tenure. Teams have six practice squad slots they can use on vested veterans.

Guyton followed GM Tom Telesco from the Chargers. The ACL tear he suffered early during the 2022 season sidetracked his career, with the former Justin Herbert deep threat — who totaled 959 yards from 2020-21 — catching just 12 passes over the past two seasons. The Raiders kept rookie UDFA Ramel Keyton and third-year UDFA Tyreik McAllister among their six-man receiving corps. Four of the six wideouts on the Raiders’ roster are ex-UDFAs, with only Davante Adams and Tre Tucker being drafted.

The Raiders are using one of their injury activations on Taylor, who arrived via seventh-round pick this year. Elsewhere in the secondary, Webb is off the roster after having previously worked as a three-game starter. This came during Josh McDaniels‘ only full season in charge.
