Redskins Placing WR Josh Doctson On IR

The Redskins are placing wide receiver Josh Doctson on injured reserve, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com (via Facebook). That means Doctson will be out through at least Week 14. The team was hoping to have Doctson back for Week 10, but his Achilles pain proved to be too much. Josh Doctson (vertical)

“We saw another specialist, a couple of them now, with all the work that we’ve put in, we thought it was best to immobilize him for a little bit of time and see if that can help,” Gruden said (via Conor Orr of NFL.com). “By the time he gets out of the boot, then he’ll need time to see if he’s ready and hopefully we’ll get him back for the last, maybe, two games of the year. … He could be out for the year. He could not be. I don’t know yet, we’ll see how he is. Big thing is to just get him healthy. Based on all the research we’ve done, we thought this was best for him basically.”

Doctson appeared in two games this season and caught two passes for 66 yards. The Redskins had high hopes for Doctson this year and many believed that he would leapfrog DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon in the offense. In the long-term, Doctson still figures to be a focal part of Washington’s passing attack, but they may have to wait until 2017 before they can get him back on the field.

To take Doctson’s place, the Redskins promoted wide receiver Maurice Harris. The 4-2 Redskins travel to Detroit on Sunday to take on the 3-3 Lions.

Sunday NFL Transactions: NFC East

Listed below are the Sunday roster moves for the four NFC East teams. Following the 53-man roster cutdown deadline yesterday, many teams will make slight tweaks to their rosters, claiming players off waivers or signing guys who clear waivers. Those transactions for the Cowboys, Giants, Eagles, and Redskins are noted below.

Additionally, as of 12:00pm CT today, teams can begin constructing their 10-man practice squads. You can check out our glossary entry on practice squads to brush up on those changes, as well as all the other guidelines that govern the 10-man units, whose players practice with the team but aren’t eligible to suit up on Sundays.

Redskins Cut Jenkins, Paulsen, Down To 53

Cullen Jenkins‘ short tenure in Washington has come to an end. After having signed with the Redskins earlier this week, the veteran defensive end has been cut by the team, according to Mike Jones of The Washington Post (via Twitter). The 35-year-old has been in the league since 2004, and he started 14 games for the Giants in 2015.

Logan Paulsen (also reported by Jones) is another notable cut by the Redskins. The tight end has been on the squad since 2010, although a toe injury kept him off the field last season. Entering 2016, he found himself buried on the tight end depth chart behind Jordan Reed, Niles Paul, and Vernon Davis. The 29-year-old compiled 53 catches, 575 yards, and four touchdowns between the 2012 and 2013 season.

Rookie Matt Ioannidis wasn’t necessarily expected to play a large role on this year’s Redskins team, but most expected the fifth-round pick to make the squad. The defensive end was attempting to switch to defensive tackle, writes Jones, but the rookie “struggled with consistency.” The team ultimately opted for veteran Kedric Golston and undrafted rookie Anthony Lanier. Jones tweets that the defensive lineman should pass through waivers and land back on the Redskins’ practice squad.

The Redskins are now down to the 53-man limit several hours before the deadline. Here is the full list of the players that have been cut:

Washington Signs 14 Undrafted Free Agents

As rookie minicamps open around the NFL, more and more teams are officially announcing their undrafted free agent signings. Washington did so this morning, adding 14 new players to the 90-man roster, according to the team’s official website. Here’s the complete list of the UDFAs headed to D.C.:
