Ravens Sign T Andre Smith

The Ravens have signed veteran tackle Andre Smith, the team announced. Yesterday, Field Yates of ESPN.com tweeted that Baltimore worked out Smith, along with younger linemen Darrell Williams and Tyler Jones, and obviously the team liked what it saw in the more experienced Smith.

Smith, 32, has not played since November, when the Bengals ended their latest stint with the former top-10 pick. He played in six games this season, starting five, for an embattled Cincinnati offensive line. The team waived the 11th-year veteran in late November, but no team claimed his contract. The Cardinals used Smith as a starter for much of 2018 but cut him during the season, leading the longtime Bengal back to Cincinnati. Smith has started 90 games during his career, but his prime obviously ended years ago. The Texans also auditioned Smith since his latest Bengals departure but did not sign him.

The Ravens opened practice for Saturday’s divisional-round game against the Titans without a tackle on their injury report, but Smith provides veteran insurance in case something should happen to starters Ronnie Stanley and Orlando Brown during their playoff run. James Hurst had served as the swing man behind Stanley and Brown, but he is probably more effective at guard.

Guard Parker Ehinger, who sat out Tuesday’s practice with a shoulder malady, has been placed on IR in a corresponding move.

Cardinals Reach 53-Man Max

Arizona has officially announced their cuts. Notably, the Cardinals trimmed their roster all the way down to 51 players, which they said was in preparation for waiver claims on Sunday. Arizona has first priority in the waiver order, so they’ll almost certainly be claiming some players.

The biggest name on this list is probably tight end Ricky Seals-Jones. He showed a lot of promise as an undrafted rookie in 2017, and was a favorite of Bruce Arians. He fell out of favor when Arians retired, and the new staff didn’t take as kindly to him. Seals-Jones has flashed serious potential, so he should land on his feet soon. Pharoh Cooper was a 2017 All-Pro selection for his return prowess, and the Cardinals claimed him off waivers from the Rams late last season. Three other teams also put in claims for Cooper at the time, so maybe one of them will scoop him up now. Receiver Chad Williams was the team’s third-round pick in 2017, but he barely got on the field during his two seasons in the desert.

Cowboys Place Parker Ehinger On IR

The Cowboys have taken another hit on their offensive line, as the club announced it’s placed recent trade acquisition Parker Ehinger on injured reserve and signed fellow offensive lineman Kadeem Edwards.

Dallas picked up Ehinger from the Chiefs late last month in exchange for defensive back Charvarius Ward. With Travis Frederick sidelined by Guillian-Barre syndrome, and Zack Martin working his way back from a knee injury (he’ll play in Week 1), the Cowboys were searching for interior offensive line depth. Ehinger, a former fourth-round pick who appeared in six games for Kansas City from 2016-17, was thought to be just that, but he’s now down for the count with his own knee issue.

Edwards, meanwhile, was a fifth-round pick in the 2014 draft, but he’s yet to appear in an NFL game. He’s bounced around the league, spending time with the Buccaneers and Jaguars before landing with the Cowboys in 2016. Edwards was on Dallas’ practice squad for much of the past two years, so he’s certainly familiar with the club’s blocking scheme.
