Winston May Miss More "An Extended Period Of Time"
Despite putting an end to their five-game losing streak this afternoon, the Buccaneers did it without their starting quarterback Jameis Winston. The former first overall pick was expected to miss “a couple of weeks” with a shoulder injury, but general manager Jason Licht admitted during the team’s pre-game show that their franchise signal caller may actually miss more time than that, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times (Twitter link).
Could Jon Gruden Return To Buccaneers?
- Every year, it seems, we hear rumors concerning Jon Gruden‘s potential return to the sidelines as a head coach. With his former team, the Buccaneers, sputtering in 2017, and with Dirk Koetter looking less likely to return in 2018, Gruden-to-Tampa Bay rumors will only continue to pick up steam, as Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports writes. Gruden has mended his relationship with Bucs ownership and still lives about 10 minutes from the team facility, and a source close to him indicated it is possible that Gruden returns to the Bucs.
Dirk Koetter Wonders If Bucs Players Believe In Coaches
Preseason playoff projection darlings, the Buccaneers are floundering and reside alone in last place in the NFC South. They are likely going to miss postseason play for the 10th straight year, and second-year coach Dirk Koetter could be on the hot seat. The team’s former OC made an interesting comment about one of the components that could be behind the Bucs’ five-game losing streak.
The Bucs will now be playing without Jameis Winston for multiple games and will attempt to snap their skid Sunday without Mike Evans as well.

Buccaneers Activate QB Ryan Griffin
Tampa Bay activated Ryan Griffin from the injured reserve list and released third-year cornerback Ayodeji Olatoye to make room for the quarterback on the 53-man roster, the team announced today.
The move did not come as a surprise after it was announced starting quarterback Jameis Winston would be sidelined for at least two weeks due to a shoulder injury. Griffin, who was placed on IR after suffering his own shoulder injury in the team’s second preseason game vs. Jacksonville, returned to practice on October 18 and has been throwing for the scout team. He will serve as Ryan Fitzpatrick‘s backup until Winston returns to the field.
In 2013, Griffin was signed by the Saints after going undrafted coming out of Tulane. After spending two seasons on the team’s practice squad and a brief stint on the 53-man roster as a rookie, Griffin was released in 2015 and claimed by the Buccaneers. The fifth-year quarterback has yet to attempt a pass in a regular season game, and completed 4-of-9 passes in the 2017 preseason before being sidelined.
NFL Suspends Buccaneers WR Mike Evans
Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans has been suspended without pay for one game, the NFL announced. Evans’ “violations of unsportsmanlike conduct and unnecessary roughness rules” on Sunday against the Saints will keep him sidelined for the team’s upcoming game against the Jets.

“During the third quarter, after a play had ended, you struck an unsuspecting opponent in the back, knocking him to the ground. Your conduct clearly did not reflect the high standards of sportsmanship expected of a professional,” NFL Vice President of Football Operations Jon Runyan wrote in a statement.
Per the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Evans may file for an appeal the suspension within three business days and he’ll do just that, as Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tweets. Appeals are heard and decided by either Derrick Brooks or James Thrash in cases of on-field player discipline.
Evans, 24, has topped 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first three NFL seasons. He’s on pace to do it again (532 yards through eight games) but the one-game ban will set him back a bit.
The Buccaneers will also be without quarterback Jameis Winston this week.
Buccaneers To Rest Jameis Winston
The Buccaneers will be without starting quarterback Jameis Winston for a bit. On Monday, head coach Dirk Koetter announced that the team will be shutting him down for “a couple of weeks.”
Winston first suffered a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder during the preseason. At multiple times during the season, he has re-aggravated the injury. The latest instance forced him out of Sunday’s game against the Saints.
While Winston is sidelined, Ryan Fitzpatrick will serve as the Buccaneers’ starter. First up for the Harvard product is a showdown with his former team, the Jets. After that, Fitzpatrick is looking at a likely start against the Dolphins and, potentially, a showdown with the Falcons.
Winston and Fitzpatrick are the only quarterbacks presently on the roster, so the Bucs will probably look to add another QB in the coming days. Ryan Griffin would seem to be a likely candidate for promotion from the practice squad.
