Broncos Sign Justin Simmons, Devontae Booker
- The Broncos now have two more draft picks under contract, signing third-round safety Justin Simmons and fourth-round running back Devontae Booker to their four-year rookie deals, per Troy Renck of the Denver Post (Twitter link).
Broncos Waive Toben Opurum
- Fullback Toben Opurum has had a busy week — the 25-year-old was cut by New Orleans at the start of the week, was claimed off waivers by the Broncos, and now has been waived by Denver as well, due to a failed physical, tweets Adam Caplan of ESPN.com.
Broncos Sign Andy Janovich, William Parks
- The Broncos have signed sixth-round fullback Andy Janovich and sixth-round safety William Parks, Troy Renck of The Denver Post tweets. As the 176th overall pick, Janovich will be in line for a four-year deal worth $2.504MM, with a signing bonus of about $164K. Parks, selected nearly an entire round later at No. 219, will get a bonus of about $100K.
Bradford’s Agent Wanted Broncos Trade
Sam Bradford has reported to the Eagles for their voluntary camp, but just a few weeks ago, his status with the team was anything but certain. After the Eagles traded up to the No. 2 pick in the draft to select a quarterback, Bradford was feeling rather unloved and asked for a trade. The Broncos, who had quite a bit of uncertainty at the position, kicked the tires on the quarterback.

Ultimately, however, Denver moved on from Bradford upon hearing the Eagles’ spit take-inducing asking price. The Broncos are now prepared to head into 2015 with Mark Sanchez and rookie Paxton Lynch under center, but agent Tom Condon says that he tried hard to help facilitate a deal while it was still a possibility.
“We thought we had a chance to go to a really god football team and be there for a long time,” Condon said on The Rich Eisen Show (Twitter link via Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer). “That opportunity was there and the attempt was made. When the Broncos contacted the Eagles and talked about the trade, they couldn’t agree on a price. At that point our options are pretty limited. So, our next best option is to go back and prepare for the season.”
Bradford has accepted his fate for now, but if things pan out with Carson Wentz as the Eagles expect, he might not be a part of the team’s plans beyond 2016. Bradford’s new two-year deal calls for most of its guarantees to be paid in 2016, so the Eagles could move on from him in 2017 if they deem him expendable.

Broncos Sign Riley Dixon
- Like Buffalo, Denver also seems to be working backward with its draftees. The first Broncos pick to sign is the team’s seventh-round selection, punter Riley Dixon (Twitter link via Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com). Dixon is expected to push Britton Colquitt – who has a $4MM cap hit – for the starting job this summer.
Broncos Claim Toben Opurum From Saints
- Fullback Toben Opurum was claimed by the Broncos after he was waived by the Saints, Evan Woodbery of The Times-Picayune writes. Opurum, 25, has been with the Saints since the end of the 2014 season. In a related move, the Broncos have waived tight end Anthony Norris, Troy Renck of The Denver Post tweets.
Kiper: Broncos Have Multiple UDFAs To Watch
- In an Insider-only piece for ESPN.com, draft guru Mel Kiper identifies 30 undrafted free agents to keep an eye on this summer. The Bills, Panthers, Bears, Broncos, Colts, Saints, Jets, 49ers each have two signees on the list, while the Buccaneers have an impressive four of the 30.
Paige: Could Mose Frazier Make Broncos?
- Woody Paige of The Denver Post wonders if Mose Frazier will be the next great free agent to make the Broncos‘ roster. Frazier, a Memphis product, was quarterback Paxton Lynch‘s favorite target at Memphis. In the past two seasons, Frazier has caught 117 passes from the quarterback for 1,305 yards. Despite his chemistry with Lynch, he might be facing an uphill battle in Denver. As of this writing, the Broncos have eleven wide receivers under contract.
John Elway On Paxton Lynch
- Quarterback Mark Sanchez might not be at the Broncos’ helm for long if first-rounder Paxton Lynch forces the team’s hand, which is something general manager John Elway believes the ex-Memphis standout is capable of doing. “We think he’s going to be ready quicker than a lot of people think,” Elway told Denver Sports 760 (link via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk). On why the Broncos decided to trade up in the first round for the 6-foot-7 Lynch, Elway said, “He’s a young guy with tremendous athletic ability, he’s got the strong arm, can make all the throws, he’s smart, and he’s a guy that can fit into this offense real well.”
- While Elway sees the Lynch era approaching, Troy Renck of the Denver Post cautions that patience is in order. As Renck writes, Lynch hasn’t played in a pro-style offense since his freshman year at Memphis – which is the last time he was even in a huddle – and his play calls there were far less complicated than they will be in Denver. Moreover, the Broncos would be unwise to rush Lynch into the lineup to serve as a game manager, Renck opines. The club should instead wait until the 22-year-old is truly ready and let him take advantage of his strengths, namely his big arm and elusiveness.
Von Miller Wants To Stay With Broncos
- Contract talks are at a standstill between Von Miller and the Broncos, but the Super Bowl MVP says that he doesn’t plan on going anywhere. “I’m going to be here in Denver no matter what,” Miller said, as Cameron Wolfe of The Denver Post writes. “The contract is going to take care of itself. I’m going to be a Denver Bronco for life.” Miller, who was hit with the franchise tag, is not expected to take part in team workouts this week.
