Tim Tebow Pursuing Baseball Career
Former NFL quarterback and current ESPN broadcaster Tim Tebow is actively pursuing a career in professional baseball and plans to hold a workout for MLB teams later this month, agents Jimmy Sexton and Nick Khan tell Adam Schefter of ESPN.com. Tebow has not played baseball full-time since 2005, but his reps say that he is dead serious about making it as a major leaguer. 
“Obviously we support Tim in his pursuit of a baseball career, as we have in all his ventures,” said Tebow’s football agent, Sexton, who is now working with CAA baseball agent, Brodie Van Wagenen. “Tim’s athletic ability, his work ethic, his leadership and his competitiveness were evident in football and will show in baseball. Knowing Tim’s passion and desire, we won’t be surprised by anything he accomplishes.”
Tebow, 29 on Sunday, will invite every MLB team to watch him audition at the end of the month. Tebow has been training hard for this session over the last year, pulling double duty while working for ESPN. Schefter hears that those who have seen Tebow hit have been pleasantly surprised to see how well he has picked things up after so much time away. Indeed, former Major League catcher Chad Moeller, who has been training Tebow at his academy in Scottsdale, Arizona, offered up high praise for the ex-QB.
“I am beyond impressed with Tim’s athleticism and swing, and it goes without saying that he has shown a high level of discipline and strong work ethic,” Moeller said (Facebook link via Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports). “I see bat speed and power and real baseball talent. I truly believe Tim has the skill set and potential to achieve his goal of playing in the Major Leagues, and based on what I have seen over the past two months, it could happen relatively quickly.”
Tebow’s last shot at the NFL came last offseason when he hooked on with Chip Kelly‘s Eagles. Tebow was the fourth QB on the depth chart but the team was reportedly giving him a real look since they liked what he could do in short-yardage and two-point plays. The Florida product hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since 2012, when he was a backup signal-caller with the Jets.

Broncos Waive Anunike, Sign Murphy
- The Broncos have waived defensive end Kenny Anunike as he continues to be dogged by knee troubles, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com tweets. In a related move, the Broncos have signed safety Ryan Murphy. Murphy spent last season on the Broncos’ practice squad and was famously sent home from the Super Bowl. Cameron Wolfe of The Denver Post (on Twitter) hears that Anunike passed his physical before being waived.
Latest On Aqib Talib
MONDAY: 9:27am: Talib will return to practice today, according to James Palmer of NFL.com (on Twitter).
SUNDAY, 2;51pm: Two months after he was shot in the leg at a Dallas nightclub, Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib is expected to return to practice this week, according to Nicki Jhabvala of the Denver Post, who adds that Talib will only rejoin the club in a “limited capacity” and will be required to pass a physical. Talib has been on the non-football injury list since training camp began.

Few specifics about the shooting have been released in the eight weeks since the incident, and though the “working hypothesis” had been that Talib shot himself, no definitive reports have reached that conclusion. On the night of the incident, Talib reportedly told police he was at a park when he was shot, but the police were investigating the evening in full. “Everything was a blur and I was too intoxicated to remember what happened,” said Talib at the time. Authorities never recovered the weapon used in the shooting, and few (if any) witnesses are talking about what happened.
Meanwhile, reports have also indicated that league punishment is coming for Talib at some point down the road. Commissioner Roger Goodell is not a fan of firearms, and the fact that Talib was apparently intoxicated — and a has a history with weapons – will likely factor into any disciplinary decision. It’s still something of an open question as to whether Talib will face legal consequences in addition to NFL penalties.

Broncos Make Two Roster Moves
- The Broncos have waived center/guard Sam Brenner with an injury designation and signed undrafted free agent Mathu Gibson (Wingate University) to replace him, writes Cameron Wolfe of The Denver Post.
Broncos Waive Marlon Brown
Marlon Brown‘s time in Denver did not last long. On Thursday morning, the Broncos waived Brown to make room for former Colorado State offensive lineman Sam Carlson, as Cameron Wolfe of The Denver Post tweets.

Brown suffered a back injury during camp a few days ago, according to Wolfe, and the team ostensibly did not want to wait for him to heal up. The former Ravens wide receiver signed on with the Broncos roughly one week ago, but did not get a chance to even hang up his coat. With Brown out of the picture, the Broncos still have ten wide receivers on the 90-man roster. Receivers including Bralon Addison, Jordan Taylor, and DeVier Posey are fighting for a roster spot, as shown on Roster Resource. The Broncos’ receiving group is headlined by Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders with support from Cody Latimer, Bennie Fowler, and Jordan Norwood.
Brown, who turned 25 in April, spent the last three seasons in Baltimore, though he saw his role in the offense decline since making his debut in 2013. In his rookie season, the Georgia product caught 49 balls for 524 yards and seven touchdowns. He has failed to reach the end zone since then, and recorded just 14 receptions and 112 yards in 2015.
While Brown contributed occasionally on special teams, wasn’t a key piece of that unit in Baltimore last year. When taking into account his reduced role on offense, it was no surprise that the team opted not to extend him an RFA tender earlier this offseason. The Ravens re-signed Brown to a lesser salary in mid-March, but dropped him from the roster in May.

Broncos Sign Lars Koht
Phil Taylor Could Get Injury Settlement
- The Broncos aren’t expected to welcome defensive tackle Phil Taylor back to the club in 2017 after placing him on injured reserve yesterday, according to Troy Renck of Denver7 (Twitter link). In fact, Taylor might be off Denver’s roster in the very near future, as Mike Klis of 9NEWS reports that Taylor’s MRI came back positive — as such, Taylor could be released off IR with an injury settlement. Taylor, a former first-round pick, was signed by the Broncos in February after spending last season out of the NFL while dealing with knee injuries.
Broncos Ownership Uncertain
- The Broncos don’t have a clear line of succession at owner, Mark Kiszla of the Denver Post details, noting that the club is currently run by president/CEO Joe Ellis. Ellis is one of three trustees who will determine which of Pat Bowlen‘s seven children will take over as the team’s primary owner as Bowlen himself deals with Alzheimer’s disease. For now, though, Ellis, along with strong leadership by GM John Elway and head coach Gary Kubiak, have the team moving a good direction.
Broncos Sign Billy Winn
The Broncos have swapped out one former Brown for another, announcing today that they’ve signed defensive lineman Billy Winn and placed defensive tackle Phil Taylor on injured reserve.

Winn, 27, spent the first three years of his career in Cleveland before being traded to the Colts right before the 2015 campaign got underway. He didn’t play much of a role, appearing in 12 games but playing less than 400 snaps as a rotational defensive lineman. Winn piced up six tackles and two fumble recoveries, and graded out as the league’s No. 112 interior defender among 123 qualifiers, according to Pro Football Focus.
As Roster Resource shows, Denver didn’t acquire a veteran this offseason that can adequately make up for the loss of Malik Jackson, as Vance Walker and Jared Crick are thought to be the primary contenders for playing time at end. Neither option is particularly inspiring, meaning Winn could have the opportunity for playing time if he makes the roster and can beat out raw second-round pick Adam Gotsis.
Taylor, meanwhile, was signed by the Broncos in February after spending last season out of the NFL while dealing with knee injuries. Taylor suffered another knee ailment on Friday, tweets James Palmer of NFL.com, but the former first-round pick has been dealing with chronic knee pain for years. In four seasons with the Browns, Taylor started 42 contests, losing nearly two years to various injuries, including a torn pectoral.

Sanchez's Huddle Command Impresses Teammates
- Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian split first-team reps at Broncos practice Saturday, although the veteran’s command in the huddle and at the line of scrimmage is noticeable, Troy Renck of TheDenverChannel.com reports. Paxton Lynch took reps with the third team, per Renck.
