Titans Work Out Devon Still
The Titans worked out several veteran defensive linemen on Wednesday, including former Bengal Devon Still, as Paul Kuharsky of ESPN.com tweets. Da’Quan Bowers, Josh Chapman, Kelcy Quarles, Terry Redden, and Christo Bilukidi rounded out the group of defensive linemen auditioning for Tennessee.
Still, who hasn’t made a start in his three-year NFL career since being selected in the second round of the 2012 draft, has nonetheless become a fan favorite in Cincinnati and around the league as his young daughter, Leah Still, has battled cancer. Leah went into remission from neuroblastoma in March, and Still said in July that she’s “almost back to her normal self.”
Still has yo-yo’d between the Bengals 53-man roster and practice squad in the past, but he is out of p-squad eligibility, so that was not an option when Cincinnati cut him loose in September. On the field, Still saw a career-high 237 defensive snaps as a part-time player for Cincinnati last season, recording 19 tackles and a pair of quarterback hurries.
AFC South Notes: Grigson, Mariota, Titans
Colts GM Ryan Grigson could be on the hot seat alongside coach Chuck Pagano, according to Jason Cole of Bleacher Report (video link). The criticism for Grigson, Cole says, has been primarily about player acquisitions, including the trade for Trent Richardson and the selection of first-round pick Bjoern Werner.
There have also been grumbling within the organization about Grigson’s meddling in the team’s day-to-day operations, according to Cole, who wonders whether Grigson could get pushed aside or pushed out altogether if Colts owner Jim Irsay goes after a high-end coach like a Nick Saban or a Sean Payton.
Here’s more from around the AFC South:
- The Titans announced today that Marcus Mariota is making some progress, but isn’t ready to start on Sunday, meaning Zach Mettenberger will get the call against Atlanta (all Twitter links via Jim Wyatt of TitansOnline.com). As Joel Corry of CBSSports.com observes (via Twitter), a strong showing in Mariota’s absence could give Mettenberger a better chance to play for another team in 2016, since it would boost his trade value.
- Free agent defensive lineman Christo Bilukidi has a workout lined up with the Titans next Tuesday, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle (via Twitter). Bilukidi, who worked out for the Vikings earlier this week, was drafted by the Raiders in 2012 and has seen action for Oakland, Cincinnati, and Baltimore since then.
- One more Titans note: Terry McCormick of TitanInsider.com (Twitter link) expects wide receiver Rico Richardson to be promoted from the team’s practice squad, with Harry Douglas out this week. Paul Kuharsky of ESPN.com agrees, tweeting that tight end Chase Coffman and running back Terrance West are candidates to be cut.

Ravens Sign Jeremy Ross
Former Lions wide receiver and return specialist Jeremy Ross joined the Ravens’ 53-man roster when the receiver-depleted team promoted him from their practice squad, Jeff Zreibec of the Baltimore Sun reports.
The Ravens waived defensive tackle Christo Bilukidi in a corresponding move. He was inactive during the first four weeks.
Ross will become Baltimore’s primary kick returner, Zreibec tweets. Injuries deprived the Ravens of both of their return men, with punt returner Steve Smith out for at least Week 5 and kick returner Michael Campanaro shelved for the season.
This makes two additions to the Ravens’ receiving corps, with Chris Givens arriving via trade last weekend, and they’ll be replacing the aforementioned injured performers.
A 2011 undrafted free agent, the 27-year-old Ross is on his fourth team after stints with the Colts, Packers and, most notably, the Lions from 2011-14. He served as Detroit’s primary return man in 2013-14, taking a kickoff and a punt back for a touchdown in ’13.
He caught 24 passes for 314 yards and a score that season as well, becoming the only player in 2013 to score on a kick return, punt return and reception. Ross averaged 15.5 yards per punt return that season and posted an 8.9-yard average on punt returns last year in a full season returning punts in Detroit.
The Lions cut him before the start of this season.
Bilukidi was also on his fourth team after entering the league as a sixth-round pick of the Raiders’ in 2012. He played in 24 games from 2012-14 for the Raiders, Bengals and Ravens.
