Bengals Sign Anthony Zettel

The Bengals have signed defensive end Anthony Zettel, per a club announcement. Zettel takes the place of offensive lineman Cordy Glenn, who is serving a one-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team.

Glenn was cleared to practice last week following his concussion, but he felt the Bengals were trying to rush him back prematurely. He clashed with Bengals head coach Zac Taylor on Wednesday and, amongst other things, insisted upon his release. Glenn was fined $200K and suspended for “internal disciplinary reasons.” It remains to be seen whether he’ll be a member of the team beyond the Tuesday Oct. 29 deadline.

In the meantime, Zettel will earn at least one paycheck as the Bengals seek out their first win of the year against the 4-3 Rams.

Bengals Sign DE Anthony Zettel

The Bengals have signed free agent defensive end Anthony Zettel, the club announced today. He’ll take the roster spot of recently-released Samaje Perine.

Cincinnati is extremely banged up at the defensive end position, so the club can use plenty of help. Carlos Dunlap didn’t play in Week 6 and hasn’t practiced this week while battling a knee injury, while Carl Lawson — who did play against the Ravens on Sunday — has been held out of practice with a hamstring issue. Veteran Kerry Wynn, meanwhile, was recently placed on injured reserve after suffering a concussion in Week 2.

Zettel, 27, was a 2016 sixth-round pick of the Lions. He started all 16 games and posted 6.5 sacks in 2017, but was waived after the season despite that performance. Zettel spent the 2018 campaign with the Browns, playing on roughly 15% of Cleveland’s defensive snaps.

The Texans could be looking for specialist help, as they worked out a pair of punters and a longsnapper. Boddy-Calhoun, who worked out for the Vikings, is probably the biggest name on this list. He started at least seven games for the Browns each of the past three seasons, but was released by Houston at final cuts.
