Cabral joins the Cowboys after UFL stints in Birmingham and Michigan. He adds more depth to the team’s offensive line after the team lost Chuma Edoga in their first preseason game and saw Earl Bostick helped off the field today. Toney suffered a groin injury, leading to this injury waiver, but could return to the team should he clear waivers.
Powers-Johnson was on some concerning ground with how much time he had missed with a concussion, but the Raiders saw him return to practice today.
The 49ers are adding some significant depth on the defensive line in Williams, who has vast starting experience in the NFL. Cutting Turner could mean that the return of Dre Greenlaw may on a better timeline than expected.
Panthers To Sign S Rudy Ford
The Packers spent big for Xavier McKinney at safety. Their three primary options from 2023 are now each with other teams. Following Darnell Savage and Jonathan Owens, Rudy Ford now has a gig.
Ford agreed to terms with the Panthers on Wednesday, The Athletic’s Joe Person tweets. The veteran DB spent the past two seasons in Green Bay, starting 15 games. He will join a Panthers team that has seen some turnover at safety.
Carolina released Vonn Bell after one season, adding ex-Ejiro Evero Rams charge Jordan Fuller. The team also brought in fellow ex-Evero L.A. cog Nick Scott, whom the Bengals cut this offseason. Ford has no experience with Evero, though he did work with former Evero coworker Joe Barry in Green Bay.
The Packers turned to Ford as a regular over the past two seasons, marking a role increase compared to a nomadic start to his career. Playing five seasons split between Arizona, Philadelphia and Jacksonville, Ford started six games in that span. He worked with Savage during both Packers seasons, intercepting five passes.
Pro Football Focus graded Ford just outside the top 30 among safety regulars last season. The 49ers brought the 29-year-old defender in for a recent workout but did not sign him. He will bring more experience to a unit that also houses Xavier Woods, who is going into his second season with the team.
OL Notes: Raiders, Giants, Brewer, Nijman
The Raiders had been planning to have Thayer Munford replace Jermaine Eluemunor at right tackle, but a hand injury early in camp created a competition. Third-round rookie DJ Glaze has earned more first-team reps upon Munford returning. While The Athletic’s Tashan Reed notes Munford — a 2022 seventh-rounder who competed with Eluemunor for the RT job last summer and saw action at both tackle spots during the season — still has the edge, Glaze has created a position battle (subscription required). Glaze’s chances at earning this job may also have increased Tuesday, with Reed adding Munford sustained an injury to his other hand.
Elsewhere on the Raiders’ front, second-round rookie Jackson Powers-Johnson remains on the active/PUP list. The Oregon product has been out of Raiders practice since early in OTAs, with a concussion sidelining him. Considering the timeline here, it is concerning how long the rookie has been out. Antonio Pierce did say (via Reed) he expects Powers-Johnson and LT Kolton Miller to begin practicing next week, but the former’s chances of winning the LG job — which the Raiders appeared to have earmarked for the Day 2 draftee — have taken a hit. The team does have veteran options in Cody Whitehair and Andrus Peat; the latter has been working at tackle while Miller has rehabbed.
Here is the latest from the O-line ranks around the league.
- Eluemunor changed positions in camp for his new team, shifting back to right tackle — after spending the offseason at guard — while Evan Neal rehabbed a nagging ankle injury. While Neal is off the Giants‘ PUP list, the New York Daily News’ Pat Leonard notes Eluemunor is unlikely to give up the starting RT job. The three-year Raiders starter appears “entrenched” there, establishing a likelihood Neal starts the season as a backup. Late-summer FA addition Greg Van Roten, who started next to Eluemunor in Las Vegas last year, is expected to start at right guard in New York, per The Athletic’s Dan Duggan.
- Signed to replace Connor Williams in free agency, Aaron Brewer sustained a hand injury that could shake up the Dolphins‘ regular-season O-line. Brewer could miss several weeks with this ailment, the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson notes, adding that Liam Eichenberg — who has made a career shuffling around Miami’s front — is back at center for the time being. A former second-rounder now in a contract year, Eichenberg was close to winning Miami’s RG gig, Jackson adds. The Dolphins are now shorthanded at two spots up front, with LG Isaiah Wynn not yet off the PUP list.
- The Panthers signed Yosh Nijman (two years, $8MM) to be their swing tackle this offseason, but the ex-Packer will not factor into Carolina’s O-line equation for a while. Nijman is a “long ways” away from returning after undergoing surgery to repair a leg issue, Dave Canales said. Nijman appears a candidate to be stashed on Carolina’s reserve/PUP list, per The Athletic’s Joe Person, who notes a waiver wire add here should not surprise at this point.
- A 2023 fourth-round pick, Anthony Bradford is moving close to becoming the Seahawks‘ RG starter, according to The Athletic’s Michael-Shawn Dugar. The former Day 3 pick looks to have a clear lead here. Bradford, who started 10 games in relief of Phil Haynes last season, is poised to retain the job opposite free agency addition Laken Tomlinson.
- Saahdiq Charles‘ retirement caught the Titans by surprise. They had been pitting the offseason addition against Dillon Radunz in a right guard competition. New O-line coach Bill Callahan said (via TitanInsider.com’s Terry McCormick) he attempted to reach out to the 25-year-old blocker but did not hear back. The Titans gave Charles a one-year, $1.5MM deal to come over from Washington in free agency.

Trice will unfortunately see his rookie season come to an end before it began. The third-round pick out of Washington exited Atlanta’s first preseason game with a knee injury that was later confirmed to be a torn ACL. Trice had been working his way into to outside linebacker rotation with the Falcons.
With Mevis getting cut, it seems the Panthers’ kicking battle has been decided. The rookie kicker, known as the “Thicker Kicker” at Missouri, was brought in to provide incumbent kicker Eddy Pineiro with competition for the job. Mevis’ departure leaves Pineiro as the only remaining kicker on the roster, putting an end to any competition.

Haynes quick exit after a short stint in Arizona comes after he signed a contract including an injury waiver. Dixon exited Jacksonville’s Tuesday practice early, and head coach Doug Pederson confirmed on Thursday he has suffered a torn ACL. The former UDFA started his career with the Jaguars, making three appearances as a rookie in 2022. He resided on the team’s practice squad last season, and he could remain in the organization by reverting to IR in the event he goes unclaimed.
Speaks will take Dixon’s place as he aims to translate an effective UFL campaign into a return to NFL action. The 28-year-old earned Defensive Player of the Year honors while playing for the Michigan Panthers. He collected 9.5 sacks in the spring, and that production has landed him the chance to carve out a roster spot with Jacksonville. Speaks last played with the Chiefs in 2018.
Panthers Claim DB Caden Sterns
The Panthers used their top waiver priority today on a former Broncos draft pick. According to ESPN’s David Newton, the Panthers claimed defensive back Caden Sterns from the Broncos. To make room on the roster, the team has waived/injured guard J.D. DiRenzo.
[RELATED: Broncos Waive S Caden Sterns]
Sterns was a fifth-round pick out of Texas in 2021. He quickly carved out a role in Denver, compiling 28 tackles, two sacks, and two interceptions in 15 games (two starts) as a rookie. He was set to take on a larger role as a sophomore, and he started the 2022 campaign as the replacement for an injured Justin Simmons. Sterns got into five games before suffering a hip injury that ultimately required season-ending surgery.
The defensive back returned in time for the start of the 2023 campaign. However, he suffered a torn patellar tendon in Week 1, ending his season early. Sterns started this year’s training camp on the active/PUP list but missed only a handful of practices before being activated. The Broncos had a few weeks to evaluate the 24-year-old before ultimately moving on yesterday.
The Panthers have been especially active in seeking depth in their secondary. Sterns will likely be penciled in as a safety, but he did get some looks at nickelback as a rookie. Sterns will be taking the roster spot previously held by DiRenzo, a former UDFA who got into three games as a rookie in 2023.
The Panthers made another move today, releasing wideout Cam Sims from the reserve-PUP list with an injury settlement, per Aaron Wilson of KPRC2. The receiver caught on with Carolina’s practice squad late in the 2023 campaign and stuck around during the offseason via a reserve/futures contract. The former UDFA spent five seasons in Washington to begin his career, hauling in 57 catches for 804 yards and three touchdowns.
