Report: Vikings Among Teams With Most Interest In Joe Mixon
- Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon is “absolutely in play” for the Vikings in Round 2 (No. 48 overall), Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller told Matt Vensel, Andrew Krammer and Michael Rand of the Star Tribune. Along with Minnesota, the Saints, Bengals and Raiders have shown the most interest in Mixon, per Miller. The Raiders seem like a curious fit, though, given Mixon’s past and owner Mark Davis’ zero tolerance policy regarding domestic violence.
Six Teams To Meet With Mo Alie-Cox
The jump from basketball to football may not be easy, but Mo Alie-Cox has plenty of believers in the NFL. The former Virginia Commonwealth University forward is already slated to visit the Chiefs, Buccaneers, Jets, Colts, Seahawks, and Chargers, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tweets. More teams could request to meet with the 6’7″ athlete, Rapoport adds.
Alie-Cox held an open audition for NFL teams recently and it seems like more than half the league had scouts in attendance. In addition to the aforementioned clubs, reps from the Bears, Lions, Dolphins, Vikings, 49ers, Browns, Patriots, Redskins, and Steelers were in the house (via Lane Casadonte of WTVR on Twitter).
Despite his lack of gridiron experience, teams are intrigued by Alie-Cox’s combination of size and athleticism. He is looking to play tight end and follow in the footsteps of Tony Gonzalez, Julius Thomas, Jimmy Graham, Antonio Gates, and other TE standouts with basketball backgrounds. At the same time, he is open to playing other positions and he took requests from scouts to perform drills that were suited for different roles.
What really sets Alie-Cox apart from other young NFL hopefuls is that he is not draft eligible and, therefore, can be signed as a free agent. A team that is really high on the hoopster could see this as an opportunity to effectively acquire a late-round draft pick for nothing.
Details On Case Keenum's Contract
- Quarterback Case Keenum‘s one-year, $2MM pact with the Vikings features $750K in guarantees. There’s also a $250K signing bonus, $250K in incentives and $46,875 in per game active roster bonuses (Twitter link).
Vikings To Meet With Josh Jones
- North Carolina State safety Josh Jones worked out for the Titans on Tuesday and is meeting with the Vikings on Tuesday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (Twitter link). Jones, who is expected to be selected near the end of the first round or in the early part of Day 2, also has visits scheduled with the Browns, Steelers, and Bears, per Rapoport. Thus far, Jones has also been linked to Baltimore and Miami.
Vikings Sign P Ryan Quigley
The Vikings have signed punter Ryan Quigley, according to a team announcement. He may now be slated to replace Jeff Locke, who left the team via free agency to sign with the Colts.

Quigley spent three years with the Jets before landing with the Cardinals for a portion of last season. In six games with Arizona, he averaged 41.6 yards per punt on 34 attempts. For his career, he has averaged 44.6 yards per punt.
The Vikings now have two punters in the house between Quigley and Taylor Symmank, a Texas Tech product who signed a futures deal earlier this year.

Vikings May Draft Running Back
- Although they recently inked free agent Latavius Murray, the Vikings may consider drafting a running back later this month, writes Ben Goessling of ESPN.com. While Murray signed for three years, Minnesota can cut bait after 2017 with minimal dead money accelerating onto its cap. Fellow running back Jerick McKinnon, meanwhile, is scheduled to become a free agent in 2018. So far, the Vikings have met with Tennessee‘s Alvin Kamara and Oklahoma‘s Joe Mixon.
Vikings To Meet With Alvin Kamara
- Tennessee running back Alvin Kamara will meet with the Vikings next week, Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN tweets. Originally viewed as a Day 2 pick due to his working in a committee for the Volunteers, Kamara is now being bandied about as a potential Round 1 selection. Minnesota recently signed free agent Latavius Murray to help compensate for the loss of Adrian Peterson, but Murray can opt out of his contract after 2017. Kamara, meanwhile, has also taken a visit with the Saints.
Harrison Smith Underwent Ankle Surgery
Harrison Smith underwent ankle surgery in February but is expected to be ready for training camp. The Vikings‘ top defensive back is ahead of schedule in his recovery from the left ankle operation, per Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, but the team is expected to be cautious with him this offseason. A high ankle sprain hampered Smith toward the end of last season, and although the Pro Bowl defender returned for the Vikings’ final two games after missing two in December, a corrective procedure became necessary. A source informed Tomasson that Smith opted for surgery after playing on the injured ankle in the Pro Bowl led to it “getting worse.” Smith will enter the first season of his five-year, $51.25MM contract in 2017.
- The Rams did not pursue T.J. McDonald or Case Keenum in free agency, according to the Los Angeles Times. An impending eight-game suspension reduced interest in McDonald, who landed with the Dolphins. Keenum signed with the Vikings.
Vikings To Sign Case Keenum
The Vikings are signing quarterback Case Keenum, according to Mark Berman of FOX 26. Keenum’s deal is for one year and is worth $2MM plus incentives, Adam Caplan of ESPN.com tweets.

In two years with St. Louis/Los Angeles, Keenum appeared in ten games with nine starts. The results, frankly, were not great. He threw for 2,201 yards in total with nine touchdown passes against eleven interceptions. After the Rams selected Jared Goff No. 1 overall last year, the writing was on the wall for Keenum. He lost the job midway through the season and we haven’t heard any word of the Rams trying to re-sign him.
Keenum first made a name for himself as the QB of the high-powered University of Houston offense. He was with the hometown Texans from 2012 to 2014, before moving on to the Rams. Now, he’ll join the third team of his NFL career.
The Vikings already had quarterbacks Sam Bradford, Teddy Bridgewater, and Taylor Heinicke under contract. With uncertainty about whether Bridgewater will be able to take the field, the Vikings are giving themselves some additional padding by adding Keenum.
