Jenkins, 30, spent the 2017 season with the Bears before spending time with the Giants and Dolphins. In Miami last year, he started five times and appeared in all 16 games. He finished out the year with 34 total tackles and his first sack since 2015. The deal also reunites him with old colleague Ryan Pace, the Bears GM who worked in the Saints’ front office when Jenkins was drafted back in 2013.
Dolphins Cut Vincent Taylor
The Dolphins have released defensive tackle Vincent Taylor, per a team announcement. To take his place, the club signed fellow DT John Jenkins. Meanwhile, the Dolphins also inked long snapper Taybor Pepper, which seals the end of John Denney‘s storied run with the team.

Taylor only played in eight games last year as a reserve before a foot injury knocked him out for the second half of the season. But, when he was on the field, he was one of the Dolphins’ most effective interior defensive linemen. Taylor, who tallied 27 tackles and two sacks, will now look for work elsewhere.
The Dolphins cut Denney on Monday afternoon, but there was some speculation that he could be brought back after some roster juggling. That, apparently, won’t be the case. The 40-year-old is out in Miami and a player 15 years his junior is taking his place.
Giants Cut Kyle Lauletta; Reach 53
The Giants waived quarterback Kyle Lauletta as a part of their moves to reach the 53-man roster limit. The move leaves Alex Tanney as the No. 3 QB behind starter Eli Manning and first-round pick Daniel Jones.
Between an October arrest and a poor professional debut, Lauletta dug himself into a bit of a hole. Although the 2018 fourth-round pick is just 24 and had enough upside to merit a mid-round selection, the 31-year-old Tanney edged him out in practice. This, perhaps, isn’t a huge surprise after the G-Men signed him to a two-year, $2.1MM contract with $775K guaranteed.
Besides Lauletta, here’s how the Giants got to the limit.

Bears To Bring Back DT John Jenkins
For the third time in a year, John Jenkins has reached an agreement to sign with the Bears. Adam Caplan of ESPN.com reports (on Twitter) the veteran defensive tackle will return to the Windy City.
Jenkins agreed to terms with the Bears in March of 2017 but did not make the initial roster out of training camp. However, the Bears re-signed him prior to Week 1.
The sixth-year veteran could be in line to serve as nose tackle depth behind starter Eddie Goldman. Jenkins played in eight games for the Bears last season. Prior to that, he spent three-plus seasons with the Saints, working as a near-full-time starter for the 2015 team, and part of the 2016 campaign with the Seahawks. Jenkins, 28, saw action on 109 defensive plays last season.
Chicago stands to return a similar crew on its defensive front, and Jenkins adds more familiarity to the Vic Fangio-led unit. The team lost Mitch Unrein in free agency but has starters Goldman, Akiem Hicks and Jonathan Bullard back.
Bears Sign DT John Jenkins
Here today, gone tomorrow, and back again. That’s the story of the Bears and defensive tackle John Jenkins who was released on Saturday and re-signed on Monday. Jenkins takes the place of safety Deiondre’ Hall on the roster after he was placed on injured reserve.
Jenkins, 28, first signed on with the Bears in March. He’ll help to provide depth behind starting nose tackle Eddie Goldman in Vic Fangio‘s 3-4 set. Jenkins bounced around in 2016 but he was a 12-game starter for New Orleans as recently as 2015.
The Bears also signed nine players to the practice squad:
- WR Tanner Gentry
- OT Brandon Greene
- OT Dieugot Joseph
- NT Rashaad Coward
- LB Jonathan Anderson
- LB John Timu
- LB Isaiah Irving
- S DeAndre Houston-Carson

Bears To Sign John Jenkins
The Bears have agreed to sign free agent defensive tackle John Jenkins, his agent Sunny Shah tweets. It’s a one-year deal, according to ESPN.com’s Jeff Dickerson (on Twitter).
Jenkins, 27, met with Chicago on Thursday and was scheduled to take a meeting with the Colts, as well, but the Bears got Jenkins under contract before he was able to leave for Indianapolis. At 6’4″, 346 pounds, Jenkins will play nose tackle in defensive coordinator Vic Fangio‘s 3-4 defense. He’ll presumably rotate with Eddie Goldman in that role, joining a defensive line that also includes Akiem Hicks, Mitch Unrein, Jonathan Bullard, Will Sutton, and Ego Ferguson.
After being waived by the Saints last season, Jenkins was claimed by the Seahawks and ultimately played in two regular season games and one postseason contest for the club. Although he’s bounced around in the past year, Jenkins was a 12-game starter for New Orleans as recently as 2015. A former third-round pick, Jenkins ranked as PFR’s No. 13 free agent interior defender still on the board.
