Titans Release Several Players
Rather than releasing 30+ players on Saturday morning, the Titans got ahead of the game on Friday by making some early cuts. The following players have been dropped from the 90-man roster (all links go to Twitter, unless noted otherwise):
- CB Trey Caldwell (via McCormick)
- DB Rico Gafford (via McCormick)
- DB Demontre Hurst (via Tom Pelissero of NFL.com)
- DE Francis Kallon (via McCormick)
- DE David King (via Adam Caplan of SiriusXM)
- DL Johnny Maxey (via McCormick) (waived/injured)
- DL Mike Ramsay (via Terry McCormick of TitanInsider.com)
- DB Steven Terrell (via McCormick)
- RB Lenard Tillery (via McCormick)
- WR Jordan Veasy (via McCormick)
King was an exclusive rights free agent this offseason and was retained on a one-year deal for the league minimum. Last season marked his most successful campaign to date as he played on a quarter of the club’s defensive snaps and 16% of the Titans’ special teams snaps.
The Titans wrapped their preseason on Thursday night with a 13-3 loss to the Vikings. The Titans went 0-4 in exhibition games, but that’s rarely an indicator of regular season success.
Per league rules, the Titans must trim their way down to a 53-man roster by Saturday afternoon. They’ll get there by releasing more players and placing others on injured reserve.

Titans To Sign S Steven Terrell
The Titans are adding another safety. On Friday, the Titans agreed to sign Stephen Terrell, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter).
Terrell was one of several safeties to audition for the Titans late last week. He now joins the club following the signing of Kenny Vaccaro. Vaccaro will likely start in place of the injured Johnathan Cyprien, but Terrell may find a role as a backup.
Terrell spent the first three seasons of his career with the Seahawks and enjoyed a bit of a breakout season in 2016. After having appeared in 16 games between 2014 and 2015, the safety appeared in 16 games (five starts) in 2016, finishing with a career-high in tackles (27). Last year, he hooked on with the Chiefs and appeared in ten contests.
Titans Work Out S Steven Terrell
The Titans are casting a wide net in their search for safety help. Former Seahawks and Chiefs safety Steven Terrell took part in the team’s tryouts on Friday, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL.com (on Twitter).
The Titans were dealt a tough blow this week when they lost strong safety Johnathan Cyprien for the year with an ACL tear. Shortly after the diagnosis, the Titans scheduled Friday workouts with the following players, in addition to Terrell:
- Former Saints safety Kenny Vaccaro
- Former Steelers safety Mike Mitchell
- Former Ravens defensive back Lardarius Webb
- Former 49ers safety Eric Reid
Terrell spent the first three seasons of his career with the Seahawks and enjoyed a bit of a breakout season in 2016. After having appeared in 16 games between 2014 and 2015, the safety appeared in 16 games (five starts) in 2016, finishing with a career-high in tackles (27). Here are the today’s minor moves.
- With a ruptured Achilles’ tendon set to end Eric Berry‘s season, the Chiefs officially placed the eighth-year safety on IR Saturday. The team also signed offensive lineman Jordan Devey and safety Steven Terrell. Both Devey and Terrell went to training camp with Kansas City. The Chiefs cut both last weekend. Terrell started in five games as Earl Thomas‘ replacement with the Seahawks last season.
- The Colts cut safety Earl Wolff with an injury settlement, Adam Caplan of ESPN.com tweets. A 2013 fifth-round Eagles pick, Wolff hasn’t played in a regular-season game since 2014. The Redskins signed Wolff to a reserve/futures deal in January but waived him earlier this month.
- To fill Matt Jones‘ roster spot, the Colts promoted guard Adam Redmond from their practice squad. Redmond signed with the Colts as a UDFA in 2016. He’ll join Deyshawn Bond as a center option for the team, which will be without starter Ryan Kelly to start the season.
- For now, the Broncos won’t go with a two-Peko setup on their defensive line. They waived defensive tackle Kyle Peko, Nicki Jhabvala of the Denver Post tweets. The Broncos signed Domata Peko to be their starting nose tackle and have until Sunday afternoon to replace his cousin on the roster in advance of their Monday-night game. Kyle Peko missed time this summer because of an injury.
- The Lions signed offensive lineman Storm Norton off their practice squad and waived linebacker Nick Bellore, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports. Rothstein adds this news could mean tackle Corey Robinson — brought off the PUP list last week — may not be ready to play in Week 1. Robinson missed the preseason with an injury.
- The Saints released outside linebacker Bryan Braman off IR with an injury settlement, Caplan reports (on Twitter).

Chiefs Release S Steven Terrell
The Chiefs have released safety Steven Terrell, according to Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star (via Twitter). The 26-year-old signed with the organization back in July.
The former undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M got an extended look from Kansas City during the preseason, and he ultimately compiled 17 tackles in four games. However, the organization was already eyeing a logjam at safety, and Terrell was seemingly the odd man out. The organization is now rostering three safeties behind starters Ron Parker and Eric Berry, including Daniel Sorensen, Eric Murray, and Leon McQuay III.
Terrell had spent the past three seasons in Seattle, and he had a bit of a breakout in 2016. After having appeared in 16 games between 2014 and 2015, the safety appeared in 16 games (five starts) in 2016, finishing with a career-high in tackles (27). Terrell has also spent time with the Jaguars and Texans.
