This time of year, a lot of teams are auditioning guys for potential reserve/futures deals to be a part of their 90-man rosters for 2019. It’s also common to see a lot of CFL guys getting looks this time of year, because players participating in the 2018 CFL season aren’t eligible to sign NFL contracts until after the regular season is over.

Titans Cut Roster Down To 53

Starting right tackle Jack Conklin will return to the Titans’ active roster after missing training camp due to his ACL tear in Tennessee’s second-round playoff game. He will be taken off the PUP list, pointing to an early-season return rather than a six-week absence.

Many other Titans will have to head elsewhere. Tennessee announced its cuts, trimming the roster from 90 to 53 players. Here is the full list of cuts:

Williams played in ten games between the Chiefs and Dolphins last season, finishing with eight tackles. He restructured his deal in March, but it wasn’t enough to keep his spot in Miami.

Young was slated to make $1.2MM in 2017 per the terms of the extension he signed in the winter.

Today’s minor moves:

Reserve/Futures Contracts

Miami Dolphins

San Diego Chargers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Dallas Cowboys

Minor NFL Transactions: 10/26/16

Here are today’s minor moves.

  • The Dolphins cut defensive tackle Julius Warmsley today, as Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald writes. Warmsley has been inactive for the last two weeks. In total, he appeared in five games for Miami this year and recorded eight tackles.
  • The Jets announced that they have signed linebacker Taiwan Jones. No, the Raiders running back-turned-cornerback-turned-running back didn’t change positions again. This Taiwan Jones is a UDFA out of Michigan State who has yet to play in an NFL game, but that could end soon.
  • The Texans are signing offensive tackle Jeff Adams, according to Mark Berman of FOX 26 (on Twitter). Adams has played in four games during what’s been a five-year career, suiting up for two with the Texans in each of the past two years. He started two games last season.
  • The Cardinals promoted wide receiver Chris Hubert from the practice squad to the active roster today. Hubert will fill Jaron Brown‘s roster spot after he was put on IR with an ACL injury.

Teams Monitoring Dolphins Defensive Ends

Rival teams are keeping an eye on the Dolphins’ defensive end situation, according to Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald (on Twitter). With the 53-man roster crunch looming, teams know that Miami will be forced to cut at least a couple of intriguing bookends, Beasley hears, and he wonders aloud if that could make for a trade possibility. Dion Jordan (vertical)

Of course, Dion Jordan stands as the Dolphins’ most notable reserve defensive end. Reinstated just days ago, the Dolphins got an unpleasant surprise when they learned that Jordan got knee surgery during his time away from football. As the former No. 3 overall pick recovers, Miami has placed him on the NFI list. Jordan is expected to be back on the field within two to three weeks, but there’s no guarantee that the Dolphins will want to carry him on the roster this season. In theory, Jordan could be a release or trade candidate and one has to imagine that there will be teams with interest given his innate talent.

The Dolphins plan on using free agent additions Mario Williams and Andre Branch in the starting defensive end roles. Behind them should be the newly-restructured Cameron Wake and another recent free agent pickup in Jason Jones. After that, Jordan, Chris McCain, Terrence Fede, Jordan Williams, and Julius Warmsley are all fighting for a spot on the team, as shown on Roster Resource.
