Bengals Waive 11 Players
The Bengals have taken a considerable step towards reaching the 53-man max on Saturday by waiving the following eleven players:
- LB Curtis Akins
- C Kirk Barron
- S Demetrious Cox
- LS Dan Godsil
- CB Tony Lippett
- DT Dare Odeyingbo
- DT Christian Ringo (injury settlement)
- LB Sterling Sheffield
- DE Immanuel Turner
- K Tristan Vizcaino
- G Christian Westerman
Lippett, one of the more recognizable names on the list, hooked on with the Bengals exactly 30 days ago. The former second-round pick offered familiarity with defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, but it wasn’t enough to keep him in the fold.
Bengals Sign CB Tony Lippett
The Bengals signed free agent cornerback Tony Lippett, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter). To make room, they’ve waived linebacker Chris Worley.
For Lippett, a former second-round pick, it’s a new adventure in a familiar scheme. He spent time with defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo in Miami, so he may have a leg up on the competition as he guns for a spot on the 53-man roster.
Lippett, transformed from a collegiate wideout to an NFL corner and made 13 starts for the Fins in 2016. However, he missed the 2017 with a torn Achilles and missed the club’s final cutdowns in 2018. He bounced around a bit last year, including a three-game stint with the Giants.

Giants To Re-Sign CB Tony Lippett
The Giants have re-signed cornerback Tony Lippett to a one-year deal, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL.com (Twitter link).
Lippett, who transformed from a collegiate wideout to an NFL corner, was a 13-game starter for the Dolphins in 2016, but didn’t make it through final cutdowns in 2018 after missing the previous season with a torn Achilles. He worked out for a number of teams last season, and ultimately landed with the Giants in October. Although he appeared in three games, Lippett saw only 12 snaps on defense.
Lippett could potentially be in for more work in 2019, as the Giants don’t have much at cornerback behind Janoris Jenkins, especially now that B.W. Webb departed via free agency. Still only 26 years old, Lippett will fight Sam Beal, Antonio Hamilton, and others for playing time.
Giants Sign CB Tony Lippett
The Giants signed former Dolphins cornerback Tony Lippett. The veteran took part in the Giants’ practice on Thursday and, depending on how things go, may be an option for the active roster on Sunday against the Redskins.
Lippett, a former collegiate wideout, was a 13-game starter for the Dolphins in 2016, but lost the entire 2017 season to a torn Achilles. This year, he missed the Dolphins’ final cut.
Lippett takes the place of Eli Apple on the roster, though won’t necessarily take on the same role. B.W. Webb figures to start opposite of Janoris Jenkins while Lippett will probably be one of the first corners off of the bench. In time, Lippett could push his way into the starting lineup, particularly if Jenkins is traded before the Oct. 30 deadline.
The 1-6 Giants have a winnable next three games against the Redskins, 49ers, and Bucs. But, if they don’t win at least two of those three, their playoff hopes will be looking pretty slim.

Lions Audition CB Tony Lippett
Defensive lineman Tank Carradine and tight end Clive Walford weren’t the only veteran free agents to work out for the Lions today. Cornerback Tony Lippett also auditioned for Detroit on Wednesday, tweets veteran NFL reporter Howard Balzer.
Lippett, who transformed from a collegiate wideout to an NFL corner, was a 13-game starter for the Dolphins in 2016, but didn’t make it through final cutdowns earlier this year after missing the entire 2017 campaign with a torn Achilles. Provided he’s now healthy, Lippett could give Detroit’s secondary a boost, as the club ranks just 29th in passing defense DVOA. While starters Darius Slay and Nevin Lawson have played well, nickel back Jamal Agnew ranks as a bottom-10 NFL corner, per Pro Football Focus, and is now dealing with an injury.
Lippett, 26, has drawn plenty of interest since being cut by Miami, as he’s worked out for the Giants, Jets, Seahawks, and Bills.
Here’s the full list of players the Lions worked out today:
- QB Nic Shimonek
- WR Deontez Alexander
- WR Aaron Burbridge
- WR Bennie Fowler
- TE Blake Bell
NFL Workout Updates: 9/21/18
Today’s workout updates are below. There were some notable names, including veteran cornerback David Amerson, who was released by the Chiefs at final cuts.
Buffalo Bills
- CBs David Amerson; Demetri Goodson; Tony Lippett; Herb Waters; OL Jeremiah Sirles; Matt Tobin; DT Garrison Smith
Detroit Lions
New Orleans Saints
- WR’s Fred Brown; Reggie Davis
The Bills are clearly looking for help in their secondary with the recent retirement of Vontae Davis. Amerson and Lippett are both pretty big names with plenty of starting experience, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see either of them sign. Bausby was an offseason star with the Eagles, but ultimately didn’t survive final cuts.
