NFL Practice Squad Updates: 8/29/25

Anderson cleared waivers after being cut and can now be assigned to the 49ers’ practice squad. The reason San Francisco can add two while only dropping one from a full practice squad is because Zierer is from Munich, Germany, qualifying him to be a part of the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program. While practice squads are capped at 16 players, teams can keep a 17th player if they are a part of the IPPP.

Wednesday NFL Transactions: NFC East

Following the 53-man roster cutdown deadline Tuesday, many teams will make slight tweaks to their rosters. In addition to waiver claims, teams can begin constructing their 16-man practice squads today. These Cowboys, Commanders, Giants and Eagles moves are noted below.

Giants Move Down To 53

Following the Tommy DeVito cut, here are the moves the Giants made to trim their roster to 53:

Two years after winning a starting job as a rookie (and forcing Adoree’ Jackson into a brief slot CB sojourn), Hawkins is off the Giants’ roster. He joins Dulcich as notable players waived today. Dulcich came over via waivers from the Broncos midway through last season. The Giants have been light at tight end since Darren Waller‘s retirement, but they now have starter Theo Johnson back after a season-ending injury. Daniel Bellinger, Chris Manhertz and seventh-round rookie Thomas Fidone made the team over Dulcich.

Forsythe came over from the Seahawks on a one-year, $1.34MM deal, doing so after having started 13 games between the 2023 and ’24 seasons. The Giants gave more money (two years, $12MM) to James Hudson to be their swing tackle, while fifth-round rookie Marcus Mbow has been working at tackle as well. Evan Neal is also an option at tackle, though the demoted RT has been working at guard for months.

Ezeudu will count toward the Giants’ in-season injury activation total, reducing that number from eight to seven. The former third-round pick has been out for a few weeks after being carted off the practice field early in camp. The Giants view Ezeudu as likely to return, however. This is the North Carolina product’s contract year.

Teams can officially begin setting their 16-man practice squads starting at 11am CT Wednesday. The Giants have a few candidates from this bunch to stay, with a decent percentage of the above contingent under consideration to stay. Kabas is one, per The Athletic’s Dan Duggan, who adds Miller is another. Paige is viewed as a candidate for New York’s P-squad as well, per KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson. Ward is a vested veteran and can determine his future earlier, but Wilson adds the reserve RB is a taxi squad candidate.

Giants Sign 13 UDFAs

MAY 21: In addition to Paige, a number of the Giants’ undrafted rookies received significant guarantees upon signing, according to The Athletic’s Dan Duggan. Wide receiver seems to have been the team’s priority after the draft; Collins signed for a team-high $270k in guarantees, while Felton and Wells got $264k and $259k, respectively. In addition, Williams and Fortune each received $165k in guaranteed money.

Felton’s main asset is his 6-foot-5, 213-pound frame with 32.25-inch arms. His lack of lateral agility limited his separation before and after the catch in college; he never crossed 700 receiving yards across four years as a starter in college (two at Norfolk State, two at Virginia Tech). Wells had excellent production in 2021 at James Madison and 2022 at South Carolina, but a fractured foot sidelined him for most of the 2023 season. He had a quiet 2024 season at Ole Miss will likely struggle to make plays with tighter margins against NFL coverage.

MAY 13: After acquiring seven first-year players via the draft, the Giants aren’t finished adding to their rookie class. The team announced the signing of 13 undrafted free agents:

“I’m excited to see how this team comes together,” GM Joe Schoen recently said about his young players (via the team’s website). “I like the players that we have. I like the makeup of the players. I’m confident in the coaching staff, and I’m excited for the 2025 season.”

Makari Paige got a chunk of change to catch on with the Giants; ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reports that the safety got $150K in guaranteed money and a $15K signing bonus. The Michigan product earned a pair of All-Big Ten selections during his college career, and he won a championship in 2023 while contributing 41 tackles. His experience at safety and nickelback could help him earn a spot on the squad.

After skipping the wide receiver position in the draft, the Giants added five players at the position via free agency. Beaux Collins brings the most collegiate experience, with the wideout averaging more than 30 catches per season across three years at Clemson. He spent the 2024 campaign at Notre Dame, where he finished with a career-high 41 catches.
