Saints Re-Sign DL Kendall Langford

The Saints have re-signed defensive lineman Kendall Langford, according to Field Yates of ESPN.com (Twitter links). In related moves, offensive tackle Bryce Harris was released and defensive back Arthur Maulet was waived.Kendall Langford

Langford, 31, had a short stint with New Orleans last week, as he signed with the club on Thursday before being cut on Saturday. Clearly, his release was part of some sort of Saints roster shuffle, as the team wanted him back as soon as possible. A nine-year NFL veteran, Langford spent the past two seasons with the Colts before being released in August. Aside from the Saints, the only club to have expressed interest in Langford over the past month was the 49ers.

New Orleans is coming off its best defensive performance of the 2017 campaign, as it held Cam Newton and the Panthers to juset 13 points and 362 total yards. But the Saints could still use extra depth on the defensive side of the ball, as the unit ranked 31st in DVOA heading into Week 3. Langford, who can play both end and tackle, will help make up for the loss of fellow defenders Nick Fairley and Mitchell Loewen, both of whom are out for the year.

Saints Reach 53-Man Roster Limit

Every team had to get under the 53-man limit by Saturday’s deadline, but the Saints were the last to publicly announce their cuts. Here’s the full rundown of their moves:

Waived:

Released:

IR:

The Saints re-signed Cadet this offseason only to put him on the trade block in June. They didn’t find any takers then and they apparently couldn’t find any now. The Jets, who pursued him in free agency, could have interest in signing him.

Minor NFL Transactions: 5/22/17

Here are today’s minor moves.

  • Former Chargers sixth-round pick Tourek Williams signed with the Chiefs, who cut Victor Ochi in a Monday exchange of linebackers. Williams is entering his fifth season after playing four with the Chargers. Williams started in six games as a rookie and played in 16 during the 2014 and ’16 campaigns. He saw a broken foot end his 2015 slate after three games.
  • The Saints signed tackle Bryce Harris and waived defensive back Forrest Hightower. Harris played three seasons, 2012-14, with the Saints before bouncing around the league. He failed to make New Orleans’ 53-man roster out of training camp in 2015 but returns nearly two years later. The former UDFA out of Fresno State has four career starts on his resume, each with New Orleans.
  • The Rams signed defensive tackles Omarius Bryant and A.J. Jefferson while waiving offensive lineman Kwayde Miller. Meanwhile, defensive back Dravious Wright left the team. Wright caught on with the Rams as a UDFA last month. Jefferson is a UDFA out of Mississippi State. The Ravens cut Bryant, who played at Western Kentucky.
  • The Patriots re-signed wide receiver DeAndrew White, who spent the 2016 season on the team’s practice squad. White was originally a 49ers UDFA addition in 2015. He saw action in four games with San Francisco that season as a return man.

Today’s minor moves:

  • The Dolphins announced that they’ve waived offensive tackle Bryce Harris. Miami had just claimed Harris, 27, off waivers from Jacksonville a few weeks ago. Harris has 34 games of experience under his belt, but has only started four contests during that time.
  • The Colts have waived tight end Mike McFarland off injured reserve, according to Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times (Twitter link). McFarland, a 2015 undrafted free agent, signed with Indianapolis this March but was placed on IR just two months later.
