Shad Khan On Jaguars' Plan

  • Since taking over as the owner of the Jaguars, Shad Khan has watched his team go 16-58, the worst mark in the league during that span. Still, he believes that the wins aren’t far away, as Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union writes. Khan has remained committed to keeping the Jaguars in Jacksonville despite rumors to the contrary, and Khan discussed his plan for increasing the team’s revenue in north Florida. Part of his initiative is to draw fans from outside of the immediate area, a plan that cannot come to fruition until the team is competitive.

Jaguars Promote Tight End

  • The Jaguars promoted tight end Alex Ellis and waived defensive tackle Richard Ash, the team announced. Ellis has yet to play in a game; Ash saw action in one in each of the past two seasons. A rookie UDFA from Tennessee, Ellis caught just eight passes as a senior.

Jaguars Still Sold On Blake Bortles

  • A disappointing season from Blake Bortles has led to speculation that the Jaguars will decline his fifth-year option for 2018 in the offseason, but team management still believes he’ll be a franchise quarterback, says Jason Cole of Bleacher Report (video link). Bortles is tied for the league lead in interceptions (13), though that isn’t a new problem – he tossed 17 picks in 14 games as a rookie and 18 in 16 contests in 2015. The third overall pick of the 2014 draft otherwise showed promise last year with 37 touchdowns (35 passing, two rushing) and over 4,700 total yards. While Bortles is on pace to throw for a fairly prolific 29 scores this year, his completion percentage (a career-high 60.2), yards per attempt (6.32 – down from 7.31 last season) and passer rating (80.0) rank toward the bottom of the league. Worse, of course, is that the Jags have stumbled to a 2-8 mark after entering the season with playoff aspirations.

Jaguars Bring Wells Off IR List

  • To fill out their 53-man roster after Jason Jonestwo-game suspension, the Dolphins claimed tackle Bryce Harris off waivers from the Jaguars, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports (on Twitter). Harris has appeared in 35 games, with the Saints and Falcons, since catching in with New Orleans as a UDFA in 2012. He did not play in a game for the Jags.
  • The Jaguars activated offensive lineman Josh Wells to their 53-man roster from IR/designated to return and placed Patrick Omameh on injured reserve. Wells has been bothered by rampant thumb trouble since last making an appearance in a game, doing so for the 2014 Jaguars. The 25-year-old played in 12 games for the Jags that season but saw thumb injuries prevent the former UDFA from following up in 2015 and for most of this season. Omameh has seen his share of starts since coming into the league as a UDFA in 2013. He functioned as the Jags’ left guard after Luke Joeckel was lost for the season, starting in seven games. He started in 16 for the 2014 Buccaneers and nine for the Bears last season.

Jaguars Move Marcedes Lewis To IR

Marcedes Lewis‘ 11th NFL season will conclude early after the Jaguars placed the veteran tight end on IR Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tweets.

The former first-round pick sustained a calf injury against the Lions, bringing his season to a close after 10 games. Jacksonville claimed defensive tackle Jordan Hill off waivers from the Redskins to fill Lewis’ roster spot, Zac Jackson of Pro Football Talk reports.

This will be just the second time in Lewis’ career he’s failed to play in 11 games during a season. Only in 2014 did he fall short of reaching the double-figure threshold for games played, with an ankle injury shelving him for eight games that season. The following offseason, the Jags signed Julius Thomas, leading many to believe the longest-tenured tight end in franchise history would be cut. But Lewis restructured his contract and has tacked on two more seasons to his stay in north Florida.

The 32-year-old tight end actually increased his reception total from a 2015 season in which he played 16 games, hauling in 20 passes for 169 yards and a touchdown this fall. Although, the 8.5 yards per catch is the lowest of Lewis’ career.

A 12th Lewis season in Jacksonville would cost the Jags $4.25MM. With Thomas set to earn $8.3MM, it shouldn’t be considered a lock Lewis will be back, even though the auxiliary tight end is signed through 2018.

Washington became the second team to cut Hill, doing so on Saturday after the Seahawks jettisoned the former rotational defensive lineman from its IR list earlier this season.

Davon House Phased Out Of Game Plan

  • The Jaguars‘ signing of Davon House in 2015 was widely regarded as a shrewd move that added a young and ascending player to Jacksonville’s secondary. During the first half of this season, though, opponents were 16-of-19 passing for 204 yards and three touchdowns against House in man coverage, and as Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union observes, House has been fully phased out of the team’s game plan. It seems likely that the Jags will part ways with House in the offseason, as they could save $6MM against the cap without absorbing any dead money.

Jaguars Promote Jeremiah Poutasi

  • The Jaguars announced today that they’ve promoted offensive lineman Jeremiah Poutasi from the practice squad to the active roster. In a corresponding move, the club waived fellow OL Bryce Harris. Poutasi, 22, was selected by the Titans in the third round of the 2015 draft, but Tennessee’s new regime cut ties with him after only a single season. Harris, meanwhile, has bounced around the league since entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2012.

Jaguars Audition Rob Crisp

  • The Jaguars auditioned offensive tackle Rob Crisp, according to Howard Balzer (Twitter link).
