Seahawks To Activate Mychal Kendricks
Mychal Kendricks‘ suspension is over, and he is back on the Seahawks’ active roster. The team activated the embattled linebacker on Monday, Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times tweets.
The Seahawks waived linebacker Emmanuel Ellerbee to make room on the 53-man roster. Kendricks played in three games for the Seahawks earlier this season before serving an eight-game suspension.
Having pleaded guilty to federal insider trading charges, on which he is awaiting sentencing in January, Kendricks stands to return to game action Sunday. He registered two sacks and 15 tackles for the Seahawks during his brief game stint in September. The former Eagles starter (and brief Browns employee) made two starts with Seattle.
When Kendricks was suspended, the Seahawks were viewed as a rebuilding team that was not especially likely to return to the playoffs. Now, Kendricks will stand to help a team that is contenting for its sixth postseason berth in seven years.
However, the outside linebacker faces between 30 and 37 months in prison at the January 24 sentencing. So, it’s quite possible these upcoming Seahawks games will be the last of the 28-year-old defender’s career.
Seahawks To Send C.J. Prosise To IR
A C.J. Prosise IR trip will indeed occur for the Seahawks, who made the decision to send the third-year running back to the season-ending injured list Saturday, per the Seattle Times’ Bob Condotta (on Twitter).
The Seahawks will promote linebacker Emmanuel Ellerbee from their practice squad to take Prosise’s place.
Mentioned as an IR candidate earlier this week, Prosise has been unable to stay healthy for much of his NFL career. And he hasn’t made much of an impact in Seattle since his rookie season. This year, Prosise played in five games, accumulating just one carry and three receptions. Chris Carson, Mike Davis and Rashaad Penny have each leapfrogged the former Notre Dame dual-threat performer on the depth chart.
Chosen in the 2016 third round, Prosise briefly held the role of Seahawks passing-down back. But injuries have prevented Prosise from building on that fleeting promise. Seattle brass pondered moving him to wide receiver earlier this year. One season remains on Prosise’s rookie contract, and it stands to reason he won’t have an easy path to next season’s Seattle roster.

Falcons Sign 27 UDFAs
The Falcons have signed a whopping 27 undrafted free agents. Here is the full rundown:
- Kurt Benkert, QB (Virginia)
- Christian Blake, WR (Northern Illinois)
- Dontez Byrd, WR (Tennessee Tech)
- Jontey Byrd, DL (Kent State)
- Mackendy Cheridor, DL (Georgia State)
- Detrich Clark, WR (Colorado State)
- Matt Gono, OL (Wesley College)
- Secdrick Cooper, S (Louisiana Tech)
- Justin Crawford, RB (West Virginia)
- Emmanuel Ellerbee, LB (Rice)
- Devin Gray, WR (Cincinnati)
- J.C. Hassenauer, OL (Alabama)
- Richard Jarvis, LB (Brown)
- Lamar Jordan, QB/WR (New Mexico)
- Chris Lammons, S (South Carolina)
- David Martin, K (Georgia)
- Troy Mangen, TE (Ohio)
- Luke McNitt, FB (Nebraska)
- Daniel Marx, FB (Stanford)
- Joseph Putu, CB (Florida)
- Demario Richard, RB (Arizona State)
- Jake Roh, TE (Boise State)
- Emmanuel Smith, LB (Vanderbilt)
- Jacob Tuioti-Mariner, DL (UCLA)
- Salesi Uhatafe, OL (Utah)
- Anthony Winbush, LB (Ball State)
- Malik Williams, RB (Louisville)
Most NFL teams do not employ a fullback but the Falcons rostered one last year in Derrick Coleman, so McNitt and Marx may have a shot at making the team. At quarterback, there may be an opportunity for Benkert and Lamar Jordan to unseat Garrett Grayson as the third QB (assuming Jordan is being evaluated as a QB), though they are well set with Matt Schaub as the primary backup to Matt Ryan.
Benkert received a $60K guarantee to sign, Field Yates of ESPN.com tweets, so it’s clear that the Falcons think highly of him. Benkert started his collegiate career at East Carolina before transferring to Virginia for the 2016 season. In two years as Virginia’s starter, he completed 57.7% of his passes with 46 touchdowns against 21 interceptions.
In other Falcons news, GM Thomas Dimitroff recently addressed speculation about the team’s relationship with star Julio Jones. The Falcons also triggered the fifth-year option for defensive end Vic Beasley recently.
