Giants Trade Isaac Yiadom To Packers

The Giants have agreed to trade Isaac Yiadom to the Packers in exchange for fellow corner Josh Jackson (Twitter link via Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com).

Yiadom, 25, has now been traded twice inside of one year. The Giants acquired him from the Broncos in 2020 and went on to start him in ten games. He finished out the year with 46 stops, five pass breakups, one forced fumble, and a half of a sack. After the season, he agreed to a pay cut for 2021 — he’s now set to make $1.07MM this year instead of a non-guaranteed $2.15MM.

Jackson, also 25, was widely projected to be a mid-to-late first rounder in 2018. Instead, the Big Ten defensive back of the year slipped to the middle of the second round, where the Packers pounced on him at No. 45. He’s yet to break out as a pro, however. After starting in more than half of his games as a rookie, Jackson was first-string for only five contests between 2019 and 2020. Now, on the cusp of his walk year, he’ll have a chance to prove himself in New York.

Giants’ Isaac Yiadom Takes Pay Cut

Isaac Yiadom has accepted a pay cut in order to keep his place on the Giants’ roster (Twitter link via Dan Duggan of The Athletic). The cornerback was initially slated to earn a non-guaranteed $2.15MM in 2021. Instead, he’ll earn $1.07MM with $100K locked in.

After being traded by the Broncos, Yiadom appeared in every game for the Giants last year, including ten starts. He finished out with 46 tackles, one forced fumble, and a shared sack. With 45 career games to his credit, Yiadom hit a salary escalator for the fourth and final year of his rookie contract. The Giants were prepared to cut him loose, so the two sides worked out a different arrangement.

This year, the former third-round pick will support a revamped CB group that now includes newcomer Adoree’ Jackson. Jackson and James Bradberry will serve as the starting outside corners. Jackson’s three-year deal cost the Giants a whopping $39MM, which meant that cuts and restructures would be needed. Thanks to cooperation from Yiadom, the Giants have gone from about $4.5MM in cap room to approximately $5.6MM.

Broncos Sign Rookie CB Isaac Yiadom

The Broncos have signed another draft pick. Mike Klis of 9News in Denver reports (via Twitter) that the team has inked third-round cornerback Isaac Yiadom to his four-year contract. The deal is worth $3.1MM (with a $736K signing bonus).

The Boston College product was selected with the 99th-overall pick by Denver. Following three productive years with the Eagles, Yiadom had a breakout campaign in 2017, compiling 36 tackles, two interceptions, and seven passes defended. Following his standout season, the cornerback had an opportunity to play for the Broncos’ coaching staff at the Senior Bowl.

“Isaac was a guy that got better every day (at the Senior Bowl),” said Broncos head coach Vance Joseph (via Ryan O’Halloran of The Denver Post). “He certainly fits our profile at corner. We want long corners with long speed because we’re a press team. … He’s a smart guy and he’s going to be great on special teams.”

Besides special teams, the rookie should have a chance to contribute right away for the Broncos defense. He’ll compete with free agent addition Tramaine Brock and 2017 third-rounder Brendan Langley for reps behind projected starters Bradley Roby and Chris Harris.

The Broncos have two draft picks who remain unsigned: first-round defensive end Bradley Chubb and third-round running back Royce Freeman.
