Seahawks Work Out Robert McClain, Six Others
The Seahawks worked out a large group of players recently, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle (via Twitter). Among the attendants were running back Cyrus Gray and cornerbacks Robert McClain, Marc Anthony, Crezdon Butler, Chimdi Chekwa, Brandon McGee, and Trovon Reed.
McClain may be the most established of this group, as the former seventh-round pick played a big role for the Falcons over the past three seasons. The 27-year-old was in camp with the Patriots, but he was ultimately cut. Chekwa, a former fourth-rounder, also spent time with the Patriots this preseason, and he briefly landed with the Raiders after being cut by New England.
Butler started three games with the Buccaneers last season, compiling a career-high 14 tackles. McGee, meanwhile, only played two games in 2014, following a 2013 campaign where he made 15 appearances.
Anthony and Reed have bounced around practice squads and have yet to make an NFL appearance.
Gray spent the first three seasons of his career with the Chiefs, where he managed to rush for 99 yards on 24 carries. He’s also hauled in nine catches for 64 yards.

Workout Notes: Raiders, Pollard, Eagles
Earlier this afternoon, we passed along word that the Patriots had brought in six players for workouts, including wide receivers Jarrett Boykin and Austin Pettis, along with running back Bryce Brown. A few other teams have been auditioning free agents of their own this week, so let’s round up some of the latest updates….
- The Raiders, who recently placed Nate Allen on IR-DTR and saw Charles Woodson go down with a shoulder injury, could use some help at safety, and the team auditioned a veteran free agent this week, bringing in Bernard Pollard, according to Field Yates of ESPN.com (Twitter link). Pollard, whose 2014 season ended with a torn Achilles, tweeted that he “smashed” today’s tryout with Oakland.
- The Eagles made some changes to their offensive line this offseason, and the unit didn’t look as effective in Week 1 as it has in past years. It’s not clear yet if changes are on the horizon in Philadelphia, but the club worked out interior linemen Lemuel Jeanpierre and J.D. Walton this week, per Howard Balzer of The SportsXchange (Twitter link). Adam Caplan of ESPN.com adds (via Twitter) that Philadelphia also took a look at UDFA running back Ross Scheuerman.
- Quarterback Dustin Vaughan, one of those six players that worked out for the Patriots this week, also had an audition with the Titans, tweets Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. Vaughn was waived by Dallas during the Cowboys’ cutdown to 53 players.
- Cornerback Trovon Reed, cut by the Rams earlier this month, tried out today for the Jets, says Brian Costello of the New York Post (via Twitter).
Davis, Jones Among Rams’ Final Cuts
Thought to have the upper hand in the Rams’ center competition, Barrett Jones was one of St. Louis’ roster cuts as it trimmed to 53 players (according to Myles Simmons of the team’s website).
Tim Barnes and Demetrius Rhaney ended up sticking on the roster due to having better positional versatility than Jones, an Alabama product who the Rams took in the fourth round in 2013, per ESPN.com’s Nick Waggoner.
An undrafted free agent in 2011, Barnes is listed as the Rams’ starting snapper.
The Rams also waived Austin Davis, who started eight games for the team last season in Sam Bradford‘s absence. Davis threw for over 2,000 yards and completed 63.4% of his passes in his first game sample.
