Jaguars Owner Pulls Wembley Stadium Bid
Jaguars owner Shad Khan withdrew his bid to buy Wembley Stadium in England, according to a press release from the site’s owners. Evidently, Khan pulled the offer due to criticism he received in Europe.
“Earlier this year, The FA received an unsolicited official offer from Shahid Khan to buy Wembley Stadium. It was a very credible offer and was given very serious consideration. Shahid Khan has informed us today that he will be withdrawing his offer to buy the stadium – and we fully respect his decision,” the FA said in a statement. “Mr. Khan believed that his offer to buy Wembley Stadium would release funds to help improve community football facilities in England and that it would be well received by all football stakeholders. At a recent meeting with Mr. Khan he expressed to us that, without stronger support from within the game, his offer is being seen as more divisive than it was anticipated to be and has decided to withdraw his proposal.”
Of course, the plan to buy Wembley Stadium also stirred up a bit of controversy here in the United States. Some reports claimed that Khan was planning to move the Jaguars from Jacksonville, Florida to London, England. The team has denied those types of claims for years, but Khan’s decision to pull out of the Wembley bidding may finally put those rumors to rest.

Jaguars PR Jaydon Mickens To Miss Time
Jaguars return man Jaydon Mickens is expected to miss four-to-six weeks after fracturing his ankle against the Cowboys on Sunday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (Twitter link).
Mickens, who entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2016, joined Jacksonville’s practice squad last September but ultimately spent 10 games on the club’s active roster. While he wasn’t much of an offensive contributor (six receptions, 77 yards), Mickens was the Jaguars’ primary punt returner, as he averaged 10.6 yards per return and scored one touchdown. This year, Mickens had also led Jacksonville in kick returns with six.
Receiver Dede Westbrook took over as the Jaguars’ punt returner after Mickens went down, while fellow pass-catcher D.J. Chark was in the endzone for kickoffs (although Cowboys kicker Brett Maher posted only touchbacks following Mickens’ injury). Backup running back Corey Grant has historically contributed in the return game, but he’s on injured reserve.
Given Mickens’ projected recovery timeline (and his limited role overall), the Jaguars will likely place him on injured reserve. Mickens would be allowed to return after an eight-game absence.

New England Patriots
- DE Will Clarke; QB Connor Cook; LB Kasim Edebali; WR Devin Ross; TE Shane Wimann (link)
Tennessee Titans

Overall, nothing too noteworthy. The Patriots interestingly continue to work out quarterbacks, bringing in former Raiders third-rounder Connor Cook for a tryout. New England has Bryan Hoyer firmly entrenched behind Tom Brady, but also recently worked out Landry Jones.
Meanwhile, the Titans seem set to bring in a new long snapper, as the team also worked out veteran Jon Condo today.
Jaguars To Sign Ereck Flowers
Ereck Flowers has a new home. The Jaguars have signed the offensive tackle to a one-year deal, according to a team announcement.
The Giants cut ties with the former first-round pick earlier this week, and it didn’t take him long to find work. The deal reunites Flowers with his one-time head coach, Tom Coughlin, who now serves as Jacksonville’s football czar. The Miami product also returns to the same state in which he played college football, albeit several hours away from Coral Gables.
The Giants made Flowers the No. 9 overall pick in 2015 for a reason – he has the right build for an NFL tackle and above-average athleticism for the position. Unfortunately, he hasn’t done much with those tools at the pro level. This year, the Giants tried to use Flowers at right tackle with new acquisition Nate Solder on the left side, but they got the same results.
To make room for Flowers, the Jaguars have placed tackle Josh Wells on injured reserve. Wells was starting at left tackle in place of Cam Robinson, who is out for the season. Just five weeks into the year, the Jaguars are primed to trot out their Plan C, Josh Walker, at left tackle. In time, Flowers could become the next player to get a shot at the job.
Jaguars Place LS Carson Tinker On IR
The Jaguars have placed long snapper Carson Tinker on injured reserve with a knee injury. To replace him, they have signed free agent Matt Overton.
[RELATED: Jaguars Planning London Move?]
Tinker is no stranger to the IR, having suffered a torn ACL prior to the 2017 season. It’s the same knee this time around, but the good news is that it is not another torn ACL. It’s unclear as to whether Tinker will be a candidate to return from IR later this year or whether the Jaguars may consider releasing him with an injury settlement.
Overton was the Colts’ long snapper from 2012-16 and was considered to be one of the best at his position. He appeared in 16 games in each of his seasons with Indy and earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2013. He replaced Tinker last season in Jacksonville before landing on IR in November with a shoulder injury.
The Jaguars and their new/old long snapper will on the Cowboys in Dallas on Sunday.
Latest On Jaguars' RBs
- T.J. Yeldon has been the primary ball-carrier for the Jaguars while Leonard Fournette deals with a hamstring injury, and that doesn’t figure to change even after Jacksonville signed veteran running back Jamaal Charles earlier this week, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL.com (Twitter link). The Jaguars also added running back David Williams off the Broncos’ practice squad, and while they could look to slightly lighten Yeldon’s load, he’ll still remain the main option in Jacksonville’s backfield. With Corey Grant injured last Sunday, Yeldon handled 92% of the Jaguars’ offensive snaps, managing 122 total yards and one touchdown in the process.
