Sunday NFL Transactions: NFC North

Listed below are the Sunday roster moves for the four NFC North teams. Following the 53-man roster cutdown deadline yesterday, many teams will make slight tweaks to their rosters, claiming players off waivers or signing guys who clear waivers. Those transactions for the Bears, Lions, Packers and Vikings are noted below.

Additionally, teams can begin constructing their 10-man practice squads today. You can check out our glossary entry on practice squads to brush up on those changes, as well as all the other guidelines that govern the 10-man units, whose players practice with the team but aren’t eligible to suit up on Sundays.

Packers Reach 53-Man Max

The Packers have released the following players to reach the 53-man limit:

T Gerhard de Beer
CB Kabion Ento
K Sam Ficken
LB James Folston
RB Keith Ford
S Natrell Jamerson
LB Markus Jones

T Yosh Nijman
G/T Adam Pankey
CB Jackson Porter
LB Randy Ramsey
WR Teo Redding
CB Nydair Rouse
DL Olive Sagapolu

The Packers’ previously announced release of DeShone Kizer leaves the club with just two quarterbacks – Aaron Rodgers and Tim Boyle – on the roster. Meanwhile, they’ll carry six wide receivers on the initial 53: Davante Adams, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Geronimo Allison, Trevor Davis, Jake Kumerow, and Darrius Shepherd.

Equanimeous St. Brown, meanwhile, is not on that WR list. He was initially thought to have suffered a mild ankle sprain, but now, he’ll be out for the season.

Packers Place Nick Perry On IR

Nick Perry‘s season will come to an early conclusion. Already ruled out for Week 12, the veteran outside linebacker is now on the Packers’ IR list, Field Yates of ESPN.com tweets.

Perry is dealing with a knee injury, the latest in a recent run of maladies for the well-paid pass rusher. Green Bay promoted defensive end James Looney from its practice squad to fill the roster spot, per ESPN.com’s Rob Demovsky (on Twitter).

Injured during the Packers’ Week 10 win over the Dolphins, Perry missed last week’s game and did not practice this week. He’ll finish a season on IR for a second straight year. Various injuries affected Perry last season, and he missed all of Green Bay’s offesason program training camp with an ankle ailment.

The sixth-year edge defender will finish his season with a career-low 1.5 sacks. By the end of this regular season, Perry will have missed 11 games since signing his five-year, $60MM extension.

Kyler Fackrell and Reggie Gilbert will see more time in Perry’s absence. The former, thanks to a three-sack performance in Seattle, now leads the Packers with eight this season.

Although Perry has not lived up to the extension, he may be tethered to the Packers for at least one more season. It would cost Green Bay more than $11MM in dead money if Perry is released next year. Perry finished 2016 with a career-high 11 sacks, but injuries have limited his chances to build on that performance and justify his eight-figure-AAV re-up.

Packers Sign Six Draft Picks

The Packers announced the signings of six draft picks on Monday:

The Packers already signed fifth-round punter J.K. Scott and seventh-round long snapper Hunter Bradley, leaving only three draft picks left to sign in first-round cornerback Jaire Alexander, second-round cornerback Josh Jackson, and third-round linebacker Oren Burks.

Moore is viewed as a largely green prospect with a tendency to drop passes and has some questions about his maturity, but his physical tools prompted the Packers to use a fourth-round pick on him. Last year, he was Missouri’s leader in catches and receiving yards with 65 grabs for 1,082 yards and ten touchdowns.

Madison started all 13 games at right tackle for Washington State in 2017, but the Packers plan on using him at guard. The position change could suit him well as he lacks the ideal wingspan for a tackle and doesn’t always do a great job of anchoring himself against oncoming defensive linemen.
